Old School Bucs
November 15th, 2015After the game, Bucs coach Lovie Smith crowed about the Bucs defense. His defense. For good reason.
He had a right to crow. Lovie’s defense held the Cowboys to just two field goals and a total of 228 yards. Not too shabby.
“It was definetly a throwback Sunday — old Bucball being played out there today,” Lovie said. “Defensively, they just kept answering the bell.
“We believe in what we do. We haven’t been Pro Bowl-ready as quick as everyone would like, but it takes time. Guys just continue to play hard and that is how it is supposed to happen. You kee doing things the right way and eventually you see some results. We are not there yet… but we are making progress.”
Sure, the Cowboys may be missing a quarterback, but what the Bucs did was impressive nonetheless, especially the way the secondary was getting torched earlier in the year.

Imagine what it could be with a pass rush. It would be like the good old days!

Especially after how Dallas played much better against Philly

it sure did my heart good to see all those Cowboy fans go home with long faces.

If you were to look at the Open Hate Thread, those guys said our defense sucked.
They held the Cowboys to only two field goals. They kept giving up yards, but they didn’t let them score TDs.
It was still ugly, but it worked. Bend. Don’t break.

On a side note…the Bucs fans put up a good showing at the game. They were extra loud when the Cowgirls had the ball.

I’ve given it to Lovie this year for some of the games in which his defense was lit up like a Christmas Tree. Well now I need to tip my hat to him. The defense was easily the reason the Bucs won the game today. Jameis didn’t have his best stuff today but the defense repeated eel answered the bell. If the Bucs can a field a defense like that on a consistent basis they will be in almost every game they play. Simple as a pimple……

I noticed that Bucs fans were getting louder for our defense as the game went on. For those of you that went to the game and you were one of those fans I say thank you and it’ about time.
I said after last weeks game that I’m going to lay off Lovie for now. I’m seeing some sort of improvement. Guys swarming to the ball and what not. Look I call it like I see it. I truly think this team is only a few missing pieces away from effing up the NFL. Get them a 1/2 decent DE, 2 CB’s, throw in a speedy WR and we’ll be golden baby. It’s playoffs NEXT season. The season after that and they might make it all the way to the NFC Championship. Gotta get those pieces right though.
Stay the course Lovie, your defense is showing signs of life and your O with JW on board the skies the limit.

Not sure if anyone noticed it, but I thought Dallas not only played poorly, but called a pretty poor game. There were times on 3rd and 3+, where they handed it off to Mcfadden and I’d scratch my head. Maybe they have that little of confidence in Cassell, but I didn’t think he played that poorly, and they gave our secondary a bit too much credit.
Nonetheless, thanks!

You do realize it was Matt Cassel playing QB, don’t you?
November 15th, 2015 at 8:37 pm
Giving up six points isn’t bad in this league. Even to a back up. Shows how important QB is in this league where Dallas totally falls apart without Romo.
Looks like some of the changes Lovie has made in the secondary are paying off.
Obviously we ain’t there yet. But we’re closer to there than we were.

If I’m a D coordinator playing the Bucs, my pass to run ratio is probably 5 to 1..I don’t quite understand why you wouldn’t exploit a blatant shortcoming yet…
November 15th, 2015 at 10:36 pm
Check that – O coordinator…..

Yes, the same Matt Cassel that threw for 3 TD’s against the Eagles last weekend!! Stop trying to discredit what our players did today!!(aka stop being a B!TCH!!!)

Matt Cassell had a good game. He was forced to throw the ball away on several occassions because the Bucs back seven did a good job today.
But Cassell made some great throws through tight windows. It’s not Cassell’s fault that Dez Bryant had an off game anymore it is #3’s fault when ME drops certain 3rd down receptions.
Have the Bucs turned the corner? Not based on this game. But this game does indicate we at least are in the process of turning the corner.

Haters. Don’t belittle a great effort just because it wasn’t Tom Brady. It was an NFL team with a great WR and TE and a more than capable experienced QB.
They played great and I agree with the above — imagine next year if they get some DEs and actually have a pass rush!!
