Sapp Served As McCoy’s On-Field Coach

A leaner, less-meaner-looking Warren Sapp was patrolling his house this afternoon and was on the sidelines for much of the Bucs-Giants game.
Speaking after the Bucs’ win, Gerald McCoy (one tackle on the day) told Joe and assembled media that he was seeking his friends Sapp’s advice during the game.
“I talked to [Sapp] a couple of times. I asked him for advice on a couple of plays,” said McCoy, who wouldn’t offer more detail. The implication was that Sapp delivered. (Did you really think Sapp would keep his opinions to himself?)
Remember, McCoy was clear Wednesday when he said that Sapp’s mentoring orders after the Giants loss were weighing heavily on his mind.
McCoy brought little heat today on Matt Cassel, but the Bucs’ run defense was standout.
Perhaps today was a small step toward McCoy returning to Pro Bowl form.

McCoy did NOTHING today! He had one tackle, and that was simply a matter of reaching out and grabbing the runner. The dude is doing NOTHING but collecting a paycheck! He’s seemingly the most uninspired player on the team, and this S.O>B is supposed to be the leader of our defense?
Find someone else to shill for….
I sit right there where Sapp was on the sideline today….He went nowhere near McCoy. If he had, I’m sure he would’ve slapped him upside his fat noggin.

Great one tackle game again Geraldine. What a team captain. Real unselfish player. He purposely does little in games so his teammates can reap the benefits and and get all the stats. What a guy!

It’s obvious that McCoy is playing hurt.
But stays out on the field.
Funny how we are quick to point fingers at Safarian-Jenkins for not playing while hurt and criticize McCoy’s performance while playing hurt.
You can’t have it both ways.

I don’t know what to say about 93 that hasn’t already been said. I’ll just call it a colossal failure to have signed him to so much money. And once we begin to resign some of our better players – or look to add through FA, we’re going to have cap problems.
WHEN he was on the filed, which was maybe 50% of snaps, single coverage gobbled him up. Sure their OL is great, but isn’t he supposed to be a superstar?

I completely fail to understand the McCoy hate. Sure, he’s not having a great year, but he has been the ONLY consistent, standout player on the team since the raheem days. Lets not pretend like GMC could have denied this contract extension and more than likely pulled a suh for more $ on a much better team. He’s an amazing player and a class act who has had the terrible luck of being the only consistent leader during some of the darkest days in bucs history. Lets all get together and dream he bounces back next year and leads a revitalized team with an “up and comming” future elite QB on a run as super bowl contenders!

Orlando Fan – You’re right. We signed him to the contract, that shoudn’t be held against him. It’s just another miscalculation from our higher-ups.
Here’s my problem with McCoy. He tells me he’s the leader and he isn’t, and we shouldn’t want him to be. He’s a very soft individual on/off the field, doesn’t build his players up and won’t pull them aside when needed – which is needed often these past 5 years.
And ya he has been here since Raheem, and he’s been consistent, but quietly consistent. He’s a consistent, run-blocking DT. For that we should praise him for. But for absolutely nothing more. We never see splash plays, we never see him jacking up his defense when they need a stop, and we never have. He’s always been the centerpiece of an avg to poor defense – sorry but it’s no coincidence. And the player he is this year (injured or not) is not very much different than the player were used to… he’s just higher paid and the negative press has begun to accumulate.

People should keep in mind GMC has played with some of the worst D lines and absolutely horrific DEs throughout his career. DTs look that much better when they have great DEs next to them just like an RB is only as good as his O Line. Imagine GMC with even a “mediocre/slightly above average” supporting cast on his D line, imo he would probably be the undisputed 2nd best dlinemen in the nfl.

I’m just going to agree to disagree. I watch his inability to beat a single team. And we’ve actually brought in several DTs and DEs who have had success elsewhere, come in and have career low years next to a guy that should make them better. How do you explain that? How many more defensive lineman are we going to call busts?
Again, we just don’t see eye to eye on him

I sit in the front row behind the D-line end of the Bucs’ bench. Sapp was off to the side of that, watching. He wasn’t ‘coaching’ anyone, and would have had more opportunity to talk to Connor Barth while the latter kicked into a practice net.
Whatever. It’s a headline.
Today, GMC may not have been the “in the backfield, disruption” guy that his best play makes him known for, but the Cowboys offense looked worse than ours today (which is saying something), and he, like the rest of the Defense, deserves some kudos for it.

And it’s not just about GMC…some of these guys saw nothing they liked out there.
I saw Brandon Myers MAKE A PLAY when it counted. Haven’t seen that from the Bucs in a long, long time. I saw Humphries make a great catch..he could be the possession receiver we need to go with Evans who also had a great game even with the drop.
