Joe understands Bucs fans always want love from national TV and radio types. In recent years, the Bucs haven’t provided the talking heads with anything to talk about aside from garbage football and stinging one-liners.
This year isn’t a whole lot different. Until otherwise proven, most outside the Tampa Bay area scoff when the Bucs are brought up.
But there is one element of the Bucs getting a whole lot of national love, especially in recent weeks. And that would be America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston.
Former NFL offensive lineman and current NBC Sports and SiriusXM NFL Radio host Ross Tucker also has a podcast. There he hosted noted NFL Films guru Greg Cosell this week.
Tucker explained that Sunday against the Giants was the first time he saw Jameis live for a full NFL game. And he left blown away. Cosell shared in Tucker’s enthusiasm for Jameis.
In fact, Cosell had a message for the nitpickers who whine about Jameis’ footwork: He has a chance to be so good, it may not matter if Jameis’ footwork improves over time or not.
“The key with Winston, he is a certain type of quarterback,” Cosell said. “He is the kind of quarterback I ultimately like. He is willing to turn it loose. He is willing to make stick throws. He is aggressive throwing the football. And, if he is not going to turn it over, then I think that is so critical because he is such an aggressive thrower. It is in his DNA.
“Is his footwork at a high level? No. It may never be. It may be like we were talking about Cam Newton. They are different kind of players but [Jameis] may be one of those players that never has great feet, light feet, but I think he can succeed without that.
“Will there be games that might get him in trouble? Sure, there might be. But for the most part given where he is in his development right now as a rookie quarterback, I have been very impressed with Jameis Winston.”
Joe may be going out on a limb here and on a caffeine buzz, but could Jameis be the best thing to happen to this franchise since Chucky hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy aloft in victory?
Think about it: The Bucs haven’t won a playoff game since. In recent years, the franchise has been the doormat of the NFL. But now it appears the Bucs have not just that rare franchise quarterback find, but a guy changing the losing culture of Bucs locker room, and willing the losing ways out of the building through his own cult of personality.

Just think where we’d be right now if the coaching staff at that time had the foresight to trade for Drew Brees when he was available. It’s much easier to draft offensive weapons when you already have a franchise qb in place. That was the past Fameis is now the future. Just imagine how good he can be if he gets his unathletic feet problem fixed.

as the colts are proving, when you get the QB right, you can have a weaker overall roster than alot of other teams and still book annual trips to the postseason. an ascending winston plus one offensive asset (strong line, pro bowl RB, or mike evans on a good day) is all we need to compete. build a strong overall roster around the kid and we are contenders.

I’m all in on Jameis now…was leaning Mariota pre-draft because of the character issues and mechanics which he, in my opinion, has put to rest. Despite the blunders of Lovie, I haven’t been as optimistic about the Bucs in a long, long time. We obviously killed it in the draft this year. Much needed. The kid is taking over the leadership role which is awesome, and again – much needed on this team. He’s a winner in a group of ____. The free agency failures have hopefully further strengthened the importance of the draft and keeping your own players together and not foolishly trade picks. The future is bright! Now, about the head coach….blah 🙁

Look at Mike Zimmer. Coaches can succeed in year two. The proof is there. Too much dead weight on defense. And the self proclaimed leader of the team is too dam worried about THE MESSIAH that he doesn’t worry about fixing his own problems.

TBBF…is that going to fix Lovie’s poor in game decisions as well?

Yes it will fix Lovie’s game time decisions as well. I was not impressed with how Lovie handled the clock against the Giants. I also wouldn’t have punted on 4th down late even though it was the PC call. Everybody knew if we gave the Gmen the ball there our D was not going to stop them. 4th and 10 certainly present long odds…our D gave us ZERO chance at that point.
But if ME doesn’t drop all those passes…if Doug catches that critical pass..if Martin and Sims don’t fumble…Lovie’s game management would have been a moot point.
AGAIN…Bill Belicheat…a LOSING coach until he lucked into Brady in the sixth round with a freaking compensatory pick. If Brady can turn a losing coach into a legend #3 with the help that TBBF outlined can take Lovie to the SB.

@StPeteBucsFan, completely agree. Franchise Qb’s tend to make average coaches look much smarter than they are. I also agree with TBBF. When you have a roster full of really good players, coaches have fewer reasons to make questionable calls.

Jameis deserves a Whole Lotta Love for the level he is playing at as a rookie – glad to see him getting it nationally.

Jameis is taking some coach to the SB. Not so sure if it’s going to be Lovie at this point though.
