Worst day by an NFL receiver in years.
Watching Mike Evans drop pass after pass after pass after pass from America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, Joe could hear mean grumblings about former Bucs hands of stone receiver Michael Clayton.
And that wasn’t fair to Clayton.
How bad were Evans’ dropsies yesterday? Worst showing in recent NFL history, that’s how bad.
Consider this little nugget dug up by Ed Werder of BSPN: Evans was targeted 19 times by Jameis. He had 6 drops, the most by an NFL player in last 10 seasons.
You talk about unacceptable! Joe would love to see how Evans’ drops this season stack up, not just yesterday’s debacle.
The sad thing is, there really is no reliable receiver unless or until Vincent Jackson returns, which may not be until December.
Not counting Evans, Jameis targeted other receivers 17 times for 11 completions. After Evans, the three top receivers Jameis has are a special teams guy, and two rookies who were not even drafted.
So unless proven otherwise, Jameis has only one reliable target, and thus far this year, a broken clock is more likely to be correct than Evans is to catch the damned ball.
Who knows if Louis Murphy will return next year after getting his knee blown up? It sure looks like AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht is going to have to find a reliable third (second?) receiver in the offseason.

Maybe Evans is trying to take the pressure off of ASJ as far as being a bust! Completely inexcusable! If a #1 or #2 WR drops 2 or 3 passes in a game and people will grumble but this guys goes all in on channelling the mantra of one Michael Clayton by dropping at least SIX ****ing passes. A lot of trips into the red zone and 4 FGs and a great play by Winston single handedly scoring accounts for the Bucs O today. We can’t hang the L on Lovie’s D today though they were not all that good either with Odell Beckham looking like Mike Irving in his prime…… And to think I thought the Bucs could get to 0.500 at the season mid point; uhhhhhhhh. BTW the Falcons lost to lowly SF yesterday and the Aints got run by Mariota in OT so those in division road wins suddenly look like the Jag W; just a win over another lousy team; albeit lousy teams that have won more games than Lovie has!

This is not a problem that is just going to go away. You think Odell Beckham ever drops a ball thrown his way? Good receivers never drop the football when they have two hands on it.
Mike Clayton Evans is bad folks. He can get open all day long when he wants to just don’t ask him to squeeze the football between his two hands. You would be asking too much.

Can we also talk about how scared he is playing? Last year he was throwing stiff arms around like candy on halloween. Yesterday seemed like he didnt want to get touched ran out of bounds, quick to go down. What happened to the beast from last year? Honestly he just looks scared.

It drives me crazy, he drops the easy passes and makes some tough catches. Maybe the problem is Jameis, he keeps throwing well placed accurate passes. Evans cought all the garbage Mclown threw last year.
I hope that this historically bad game wakes him up. Drops can be fixed, and hopefully the embarrassment of this performance drives him to focus on correcting the problem.

Mike Evans got me kicked out of Buffalo Wild Wings in Greensboro. This was a game good teams winwin, which we are not.

Mike Evans was targeted 19 times yesterday, but only had 6 receptions … of the 13 passes not hauled in, 6 were drops.
Would someone please ask:
1 – WHY was Evans targeted 19 times?
2 – WHY did the Bucs insist on constantly going deep to him when his demonstrated odds of coming down with a deep pass this season is close to 0?
3 – WHY didn’t we use Martin, Sims, Brate and Humphries more in the short passing game? (They were targeted 12 times total for 9 receptions)
This was a poorly called game by our OC from start to finish. Uncharacteristic of Dirk Koetter … his play-calling since game 2 at least has been excellent.
Third down calls continually left me shaking my head. I was obvious to all that we settled for 4 FGs (a 5th FG attempt missed) because we were way too conservative. You don’t win many ballgames like that.

I think once he gets out of his own head and stops making excuses for himself then he can just man up and make plays. He’s either whining about the rain or calling for a penalty flag every time a defense is on the field at the same time as him. Stop looking for reasons why you’re not making the play and just make the damn play.

Bad game called by koetter? I wouldnt say that. Id say bad job by Mike Evans. He had a horrible day and is having a pretty bad season overall. If he catches those passes we probably win the game and koetter is a genius. Evans needs to man up and play with some attitude. He has the skill but his effort doesnt look like its all there

So, knowing we need DB and DE help, but looking like we need receiver help for Jameis, Im thinking we trade down our first pick. Unless theres some prize player still there for us (and of course we wont be in the running for Bosa), Im trading. WE HAVE TOO MANY HOLES!! We could trade back twice and still land Michael Thomas (ohio state).

With all the injuries at wide receiver , maybe the Bucs should give Wes Welker a call. At least he will catch the ball.

Evans don’t want it. He doesnt care. He’s lazy. The way he took a 90 degree turn to head straight out of bounds one of the times he actually caught the ball, while Jameis dives high to get into the endzone? Are you kidding me? That bothered me more than the drops. Where I come from, we got a name for ladies like that!! He’s soft, weak and doesnt give a sh!t

Never again will I get excited about a rookies first year (sorry Jameis) I’m going to need to see back to back good years from any rookie before I get excited about any player!!!

Our best players on offense and defense are both rookies:
Jameis and Kwon.
If the rest of the team could hold their own and make the basic plays that they should be making, we may never lose another game.

The drops are bad, the never ending complaining for calls is so much worse. Particularly when he himself is constantly guilty of offensive PI. Just another player on this team who has a very poor attitude and will not help this team in the long term if it doesn’t change.

Dropped balls (Evans and Martin), fumbles, and red zone woes. Really FUKD the game up.

Some of those balls Evans dropped were difficult to catch. He will have better results coming up. The big guy will get his share of catches.

Welker is still looking for a team….I guess after yesterday we don’t really have a chance to be competitive for a wild card spot… But he would be a great addition, and probably very good for winstons development considering he has worked with the 2 best quarterbacks this millenium.

I too do not understand why Licht does not consider bringing in a veteran WR? Mike Evans drop rate in college was the second lowest, only 4.29%, second only to Jarvis Landry @ 2.50%, from the 2014 draft class. Which reminds me of a story about Landry and Beckham Jr’s work ethic. Beckham would stay on the field after practices and stand 10 yards or so away from fellow LSU receiver Jarvis Landry. They would peg a ball at one another as hard as they could, trying to force the other to drop it. Over and over again. Evans only had four drops all of last year. Its not like he has had this problem in the past. The drops have everything to do with the sophomore jinx. The great ones NEVER make excuses. They work harder to be the players they are.

Holy Moly I was thinking the same thing but he wants to play for a contender. Who knows we a get a few guys like him who can catch and hold on to the the ball might turn us into contender.

godzilla13 mentioned Miami Dolphin WR Jarvis landry; wouldn’t it have been nice if the Bucs traded down a bit in the 2014 draft out of the #6 overall in the 2nd round, picked up another pick and scooped Landry before the Fins got him????? Heck I’d been happy if they selected him outright with the Bucs high 2nd round pick as ASJ is simply a bust; he can not hide behind injuries forever!
