Clueless on his status
Former Bucs starting right tackle Demar Dotson hasn’t been told whether he’ll be activated for Sunday’s game.
Today, Dotson said his morning walk-through was with the scout team — again.
Dotson is fully recovered from his knee injury sustained in Minnesota on August 15. Back then, he was a 29-year old starting right tackle. Now he’s a 30-year-old backup to Gosder Cherilus.
Don’t think Dotson is a backup? Then you’re not paying attention. Doston was average at best before he got hurt. And today, offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter emphasized that the continuity built on the offensive line over the past few games can not be underestimated.
And then there’s Logan Mankins’ fresh comment that everything has improved on the O-line since last year, and that included personnel.

He should continue to be a backup to Gosder Cherilus! Just listen to the sound of the name “Gosder Cherilus!” Sounds like he has a HUGE WANG!!! WOOOOOOOOOO!!

He can sit next to EDS, He’ll be a serviceable back up if needed.
It would be dumb to mess with the o-line while they’re performing well without him.

Average at best? Getting a little hyperbolic don’t you think? I agree that until Goz plays himself out of the job he should keep it, but I think Dot is still the best tackle on this roster. I’m not a big fan of Donovan Smiths lazy technique, but they won’t pull him unless he gets injured bc he’s the highly drafted rook. Again, I don’t think there’s room for Dot with the way they’re playing as a group right now, but let’s not get carried away either as if Goz or Smith are world beaters.

If I had to choose between either Dotson or Mankins on the roster, I would pick Dotson. He was the best player on a horrible O-line last year. I think he has less wear on his body than Cherilus. And even with the improved line play, Cherilus has had his share of penalties and mistakes.
That being said, I would give Dotson a few extra weeks to really heal, since the Bucs seem to have that luxury. No reason to play him hobbled. An injury to someone else can happen at any time. Best to get him as healthy as you can.

Idk joe still can’t agree with you. Cherilus has too many penalties and missed blocks. Dotson is just a better tackle period. With Hawley, Marpet and Dotson covering the right side it would be so beastly even Simms could run the ball behind them.

Yup the 3rd best pass-blocking RT in the NFL in 2014 is average at best lol
While I agree we shouldn’t mess with the continuity your shots at Dotson do make me chuckle. Gosder had great potential in his own right hence his 100+ starts, seems he just needed a change of scenery.

He agree Dotson was penalized a lot last year but he usually is a more then just an avg tackle . he has developed into the one of the leagues best right tackles. That’s even by pro football focus standards. I do agree tho that we need the continuity so no sense in fixing something that isn’t broken. I do believe Dot will play himself back into the starting lineup tho. All in all compared to last year, this is a good problem to have.

I would keep him on the bench, resign him and tell him he’s going to play LT next year..slide smith inside next to Dotson..mankins can be a back up or oline coach…pamphill can be backup tackle or guard with warren being back up center…Winston will be well protected…GO BUCS!!!

I think that the communication between Marpet and Cherilus had to play a role here. Not sure Dotson is as good of a run blocker as Cherilus either. That being said Dotson was a solid right tackle.
I wonder if this is the stuff that fans of successful teams argue about???

813bucboi hit it right on the nose. Smith is a great run blocker but has been giving up way too many sacks during pass blocking. He will be the ideal replacement for Mankins who needs to be hired as our OL Coach! Year after next we will just pickup a first round LT for the future. We need to get Mike back as our short yardage back. He could have busted through one yard for a TD if Lovie had just kept him. Thank goodness we picked up two good DL players this year with McCoy banged up and having lost another starting DL. We have to keep Gholston healthy too since he can play inside when needed too. Next year dump EDS and bring Warren back and give him plenty of training as our backup Center. He is a beast!

No this is what we waited on all year for his return. He should play Left tackle instead if D. Smith continues to struggle over there handling speedy rushers. I’ve said the whole time that Marpet should be prepared to be the starting center the whole time and move D. Smith inside to one of the guard position. Mankins is great but Pamphile is overtaking him as well on the inside. Pamphile and Smith are two guys who were drafted to play tackle but dont have that speed for the position at the next level but they have the size and strength to play and change the game in an innovative way. Dotson will be a key starter and cheaper outlet than keep Mankins around for next year. Plus we have to start drafting all defense beginning this year because we more than likely draft those corners this year and also a guy that can play strong safety and another linebacker to go along with David and Alexander because Lansannah and Carter are getting cut or traded this offseason. We could use our own version of a strong safety who can enforce the middle of the field effectively and these days according to allow less big plays on those weak spots in the zone you know a guy who can take it upon himself to make calls and plays. Offensive line should be addressed again year after next as we go after some faster guys at that position once Dotson and Cherilus contract run out. There are no guys in this draft equipped with what we need on offense but there is plenty of defense which is why we need to accumulate extra picks in the draft this year to max our defense and complete the players that we are building this defense on.
