Make The Deal, Jason Licht!
November 2nd, 2015Would any team cough up a solid backup cornerback for a solid backup center, aka Evan Smith?
Joe sure hopes so.
Anybody need a right tackle? Demar Dotson could help plenty of teams when he’s eligible to be activated this week.
Bucs general manager Jason Licht played all kinds of poker at the trading deadline last year, and there’s magic to be made by the league-wide trade deadline tomorrow afternoon.
Last year, the Bucs were active dealing Mark Barron (fourth- and sixth-round picks) and Jonathan Casillas (draft-pick swap with New England) at the bell.
This year, the Bucs simply can’t stand pat and pass on adding cornerback help. At least take a shot to find a guy on a roster somewhere that might have a clue how to disrupt a slant pass, or isn’t allergic to catching the football.
Bucs cornerbacks have ZERO interceptions this season. That’s truly unthinkable and historic.
Don’t worry. If the Bucs trade Smith, then they can always re-sign Jeremiah Warren to be a backup center, a guy who knows the position and isn’t a virgin.
The Bucs are desperate here, and they’re in a playoff hunt and about to face a team that rolled up 49 points yesterday.

TRADE LOVIE….
November 2nd, 2015 at 12:40 pm
Brice – someone should check w the practice squad, they need a bag of footballs?
November 2nd, 2015 at 12:40 pm
Banks and Verner are only two corners worth beans. Why isn’t Verner starting?
November 2nd, 2015 at 12:41 pm
I say now is the time to trade Glennon. Im a huge fan but, why not strike when the iron is hot? The EDS proposal you said is interesting. I want us to trade for a DE
November 2nd, 2015 at 12:41 pm
No need to get desperate, unless you’re acquiring a long term answer at CB, don’t throw picks away for players that are short term fixes or marginally better than what we have. Scour practice squads instead, there has to be guys better than the trash we’re putting out there. Even Banks looks mostly pretty bad right now. We have nothing but backups out there at CB.
November 2nd, 2015 at 12:44 pm
Cornerback help is a must! Just puts to much on the shoulders of the offense when the other team can throw, catch and possibly score at will. We must take care of this now. No matter how dynamic our offense is, and they certainly are; we will always be vulnerable. We need to be a complete team to compete with the big boys. Fix this now!!
November 2nd, 2015 at 12:44 pm
Wow, Zero interceptions makes me long for the days of “E.J., Leonard, Danny and LeQuan.” That reminds me of an eerily similar post about 13 months ago, when the Bucs secondary was getting scorched early on in the season. Lovie and the coaching staff were able to tighten things up and the defense actually played halfway decent the second half of the season. That should give everyone hope that things can improve with the players currently on the roster.

Trade Glennon.
November 2nd, 2015 at 12:47 pm
Trade Glennon or Evan Smith to the Jets for CB Buster Skrine
November 2nd, 2015 at 12:48 pm
The Bucs should trade for Darrelle Revis.
November 2nd, 2015 at 12:49 pm
I love it Joe with this in the playoff hunt talk. I’m not criticizing you or being sarcastic. I was watching NFL Network late last night and they had teams lumped into 3 different categories. Playoff contenders was the first one, then Wild Card came second. To the right of those was the final category Teams Still in The Hunt.
It truly put a smile on my face when I saw the Bucs logo show up in that, in the hunt section. Yes it probably won’t happen, but I feel much better about our team this year than I did the last 2 seasons at this point in the year. Winning truly is the best deodorant. I mean hey I came back on site. But I’ll also point out that I’m not the first one that said they won’t watch them anymore or blog about them, only to come back over time. Yes it took me a week to get over the Skins game and even still I couldn’t watch the D when they were on the field. I simply walked away and told my wife to holler out whenever our O is on the field. Watching our D just makes me turn into the Incredible Hulk. So unless someone really truly tells me that they’re improving on D, then I might watch that side of the ball again. Perhaps I was too spoiled back in the late 90’s and watching this D just infuriates me. I don’t know, but I can’t watch it anymore.

Glennon to the Jets….Lovie would be a great trade as well and let koetter run the team……….TRADE GMC his act is TIRED…get 2 #1s from New England they will do it…the bucs are not one player on defense from being good…this is like when the bucs had broderick thomas, rickey reynolds or Ron Holmes who were all-pro caliber players on doo-doo teams
November 2nd, 2015 at 1:12 pm
Joe,
please do not confuse speed with haste !
every talented cornerback is actually having a good contract !
So if the Jets for example want to have a new back up QB and decide to call the Bucs, OK !
But if not, do not trade or recruit just to do some moves.
It will not bring anything good
November 2nd, 2015 at 1:13 pm
“What’s that? Ah — Playoffs? Don’t talk about — playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a game! Another game”.
November 2nd, 2015 at 1:35 pm
I’d take 2 1st rnd picks for GMC and/or a Bologna sammich for EDS.
Keep Glennon and Dotson. Cherilus has been a good stop gap but has too many penalties and missed blocks. Mankins does too. Our oline is great bc of 2 outstanding rookies (Ty licht) and a back up center (Ty Koetter). But the vets are slacking a little bit.
While we’re at it can we please get a safety besides the walking concussion? Ty n Gn.
November 2nd, 2015 at 1:36 pm
I wounder how the team would run if Kotter was head coach hmmmm.
November 2nd, 2015 at 1:42 pm
Darelle Revis? No way. Bucs would rather pay 4 guys who can’t cover than 1 guy who can.
November 2nd, 2015 at 1:54 pm
If the NFL season ended tomorrow………do the Bucs have a playoff spot?
November 2nd, 2015 at 2:00 pm
Get rid of Mike “I cant cover anyone” Jenkins. You would think after the 2nd and 3rd slant the CB’s would start playing some inside technique, jam the WR at the line and reroute them. Nope! Continued to play 5-10yrds off and give up the slant route which is on Lovie b/c of his coaching and his defense. Lovie is stubborn he wants people to think he made the right decision by bringing in Jenkins. He needs to start Banks and Verner against NY next week.
November 2nd, 2015 at 2:03 pm
LOL @ Joe thinking the Bucs can pawn off Evan “the artist formerly known as” Dietrich Smith onto a team for anything of value. You’ve got to give something up first to get something.
While the Bucs do need good cornerbacks I doubt a team is going to offer one up without getting much in return. If a team willingly wants to give one up for a song then great, let’s take it.
Let the rebuild continue, look for the growth from out franchise QB and let the chips fall where they may.
November 2nd, 2015 at 2:14 pm
only option is trading Glennon…the draft should be the focus for now and forever …and acquiring more picks not trading picks for garbage…corner and defensive end, top priorities 2016 draft
November 2nd, 2015 at 2:28 pm
If we can rush the passer, than the picks will come. Pressure on the QB with the front 4, is the key to pass-defense in this scheme. Atlanta’s pocket was clean for most of the day. Even when we blitz we rarely get any pressure. I am tired of seeing McCoy on the ground so darn much. Also, the run defense sucked after Gholston got hurt. He and Spence are our best run defenders on the line.
Better play on the d-line equals a better defense.
November 2nd, 2015 at 2:34 pm
Why trade Dotson. He’s considered a good rt. I thought he was 29? Should have a couple good years left. Cherilus has played well but I don’t wanna roll into next year with him as a starter. Why not keep both and have a little depth. Our current cb are as good as we’re gonna get. I’d just add 1 early in the draft. If someone wants to give a 2nd for mg I’d prob do that. I think mg signed thru next season? If so I’d need a 2nd or 3rd for him minimum. 4th not worth it.
Dotson is 30 and coming off a significant knee injury. That’s a death sentence for most O-linemen. Nice player, almost good. The depth lies in Kevin Pamphile. If Dotson can return a decent backup cornerback, then go for it. A decent backup CB is a starter around these parts. –Joe
November 2nd, 2015 at 2:35 pm
Playoffs I can’t see. I’m thinking 6-10
November 2nd, 2015 at 2:51 pm
DB/DE is about the only route…..or a stud WR, dont hate me but we’re looking a little thin there unless Brate keeps proving his worth (which Im liking A LOT so far)
November 2nd, 2015 at 2:58 pm

Let’s see how he comes back from injury. Doctors are doing amazing things with knee injuries nowadays. Before the injury he was better than Cherilus he may continue to be after the injury.
November 2nd, 2015 at 2:59 pm
We all know the one to trade is Glennon…although getting rid of Evan Smith would be met with much approval.
I never liked him.
But Glennon has the potential to get us a higher pick. For some reason, the rest of the league thinks he’s better than he actually is. They can be made to pay more. At least a little more.
IF JASON LICHT has any ability, he should be able to get a 2nd rounder for Glennon. I would take a 6th for Evan Smith.
November 2nd, 2015 at 3:05 pm
“A decent backup CB is a starter around these parts. –Joe”
Agreed!
“It’s as simple as that” – Lovie Smith
“Changing coaches about halfway through a rebuilding effort is a recipe for perpetual failure.” – Johnny “America’s Commenter” Dejay
“If Lovie don’t no how to coach so be it… Hard to believe he would get a job offer and you wouldn’t…. Wonder why??? Your idiots that’s why…” – JAB83
“So my advice would be, yes, it’s okay to throw things at your TV when your team has a monumental collapse like the Bucs did on Sunday in Washington. But take a deep breath and understand that it is only going to get worse if you continue to jump from one coach to the next.” – Peter King

That was a joke right?? I hope you were being sarcastic…
November 2nd, 2015 at 3:22 pm
if Dotson is damaged goods I see your thinking. Wouldn’t mind finding good cb. The cb issues may just be a function of no pass rush from front 4 and a lot of zone coverage. Good qbs I hear shred that. I haven’t seen a cb do well under lovie? Moore banks verner Jennings Jenkins you name it. Hard to believe banks and verner all the sudden aren’t any good.
November 2nd, 2015 at 3:47 pm
Sounds Like the Jets are willing to move
DE/LB Quinton Coples & CB Dee Milner. Both postions of need for us. I’ll never understand why they tried to make Coples a LB. When his natural position was DE. The kid was a beast at North Carolina playing DE. Dee Milner actually was playing good as rookie, but injuries set him back. I remember when the Jets traded Revis – That pass defense still remained a top ten unit (#7)
It still blows me away how with all of the fire power that defense has – they’ve been
blasted the past couple weeks by the Patroits & Raiders
• Tom Brady 34/54 | 62.96% | 355 yards | TD’s 2
• Derek Carr 23/36 | 63.89% | 333 yards | TD’s 4

C’mon man do start talking down our Prospects. I can remember this prior offseason- in baseball. MYSOX were trying to move Dayan Viciedo off the books. Seattle needed another bat, and the two sides were working out compensation. Until bunch of Seattle fans, went bonkers and reposted a bunch of negative post from sox fans concerning Viciedo. Then the freakin Radio picked up on it – and deal was killed. Smh – Probably cost us another righty in the rotation (Tyler Clippard)
Anyways -always remember around trade season/offseason. U never know who reads these blogs.

Dominick managed a 2nd rounder for Gaines Adams. Don’t tell me it cannot be done by a “good” GM.

You are kidding, right? Do you think for a second that they would take Tampa fans as anything else but idiots??? lol Just look through ANY thread on this website.

dotson is younger than cherilus in actual years and in terms of NFL starts. he had a major knee injury but not a season ending one. i don’t think it’s necessarily the beginning of the end. in fact, if he and cherilus are similar caliber players (no way people who haven’t seen both players practice can know at this point), dotson is probably the guy who can be better for a longer period. regardless, we ought to keep both. if we have a tackle injured for any period of time, the lack of depth could implode your offense. suddenly pamphile is a starting tackle and next man up after that is probably a practice squad guy or a street FA

Hey I tell U this – the last thing ya’ll ever hear me do – is judge another man overall intelligence & worth by his poor typing skills. U would be amazed how many folks I know, that are pretty well off – that are terrible writers – but amazing speakers (even though they hire chics for $10-$12hr) To effectively take down lecture notes, and response to emails. But well versed individuals. Can break down asset protection tools front to back, proper use of corporate structures, detailed risk assessments – whatever U Like.
But something happens the moment they type. U may call it being lazy, while others might call it some type of learning disablility.
So once again you’ll never see me judge a mans intelligence or income potential, by what he types on JBF.
I also know for a fact the OUR GM’s & Personnel Depts. reviews comments on JBF | Rivals | Youtube | etc. As part of their evaluation process – There’s always someone with loose lips w / story to tell | Or just different prospective you might have overlooked.
I remember reading Bill Nunn Jr. would ask the waterboy, the vendors, etc their POV on a prospect. So I won’t discount the average JOE’s POV
You surprise sometime Bonzi – your such a Devout Christian -Yet your so quick to judge my brotha..Tisk Tisk#TheHeartzOfMen

I agree db55…keep glennon and Dotson…no need to panic…its obvious what we need in the draft but I would offer gmc…a.spence looked like a beast yesterday along with w.gholston at the dt…on one play freeman reached up for a hand up and spence looked at him and walked right over him…McCoy would’ve helped him up patted him on the back and said great run…GO BUCS!!!
November 2nd, 2015 at 5:57 pm
Amazing to me that commenters here believe Glennon is worth anything less than a 2nd round pick. I believe multiple picks frankly. I was never ever on the Glennon mob but the guy has definite value and potential and is eminently coachable. Great head on his shoulders. Any QB starved team with some other solid pieces on offense would be stupid not to try to trade for him. The draft is hit and miss when it comes to QB…you know what you have and don’t have in Glennon and I believe he has a ton of upside with the right team.
November 2nd, 2015 at 6:23 pm
Jets need a QB…
November 2nd, 2015 at 6:35 pm
Vernon Davis is only worth 2 6th round picks. Glennon is not netting much more than that. And that rate, why get rid of him? Just to get something? By that logic we should dump Doug Martin too for whatever we can get.
November 2nd, 2015 at 6:53 pm
After watching several games of John Elways (In person) back in the 80’s & 90’s –
I never thought he was that GREAT of a quarterback.
But as a Business Man & Now Head of Football Operations (for the Denver Broncos) – I can’t walk away NOT being impressed… The dudes a freakin beast.
November 2nd, 2015 at 6:57 pm
John Elway even has time to hang with old budds Zenyatta and American Pharoahe around the track, in between his GM duties.

I love the idea of trading Glennon to the Jets. They have 0 quality QB’s now that Fitz is hurt and Glennon is better anyways. They have Dee Milliner and Buster Skrine, who could both come in and instantly be a solid #2 CB.
November 2nd, 2015 at 9:44 pm
Better stand pat. Keep our good players or Licht will be repeating past Buccaneer GM’s mistakes. Who was the idiot that traded all the picks for an injured Revis after letting Talib leave for a 4 th rounder. Don’t even remind me about not resigning Michael Bennett. For me it’s keep our good players and resign them. I’m tired of seeing ex Bucs all over the league.
November 2nd, 2015 at 11:53 pm
LOL!–Theodore says let us trade for Darelle Revis!! Oh man-good laugh!
November 3rd, 2015 at 1:48 am
Has anyone else taken notice the hits Winston has been taking? Every game he takes several potential season ending hits. He could go down in any game. It is a luxury to have such a qualified back-up like Mike Glennon ready to come in if needed. Only way I would trade him is if for a better than 4th round draft pick or a quality CB, WR, DE or SS, in that order. I think our best shot would be to offer up a couple of starting OL like Demar Dotson/Logan Mankins/Evan Smith three pack with Seattle for lets say WR Jeraime Kearse or TE Luke Wilson? Seahawks need OL help bad.

Here’s the difference. Davis is getting paid. He is worth his contract. Glennon is making peanuts on his rookie contract. Once a free agent player signs his contract, he is effectively worthless as far as trade value goes… you are only worth your contract. Davis is being paid very well.
November 7th, 2015 at 2:30 am
@Matt Says – “Trading our o lineman isn’t a option this year. Need them all.” Why would we not trade player(s) from the one area that we actually have quality depth. There is no other position that we could trade players from that would not have an impact on our starters. Is not an option to trade Evan Smith? Your comment is without thought.
