Martin Off Trade Block
November 2nd, 2015Though it was sort of a cool baseball-type, hot-stove-league kind of thought to trade Doug Martin to a contender only to pocket a draft pick and then re-sign him in the offseason, that apparently is just bar room chatter.
From no less than the fingers of the creator, curator and overall guru of Pro Football Talk, the great Mike Florio, the Bucs will pass on trading the beloved Muscle Hamster before Tuesday’s annual trade deadline
This year, as Martin works through the last year of his rookie contract, a trade is even less likely. Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, the Buccaneers won’t be trading Martin.
Of course, prior to the season, the Bucs rejected the fifth -ear option on Martin’s rookie contract, making him a free agent after the season. And to the best of Joe’s knowledge, the Bucs are not negotiating with him. That doesn’t mean they are not interested in bringing him back.
Joe thinks that is the smart play. Let’s remember, twice since his rookie season, Martin has been dinged up, and that showed in his running and was a main reason the Bucs did not pick up that fifth year option.
And to be honest, the jury is still out on if Martin can stay healthy for a full season. Nine games remain. It’s mart to be prudent and have Martin prove his value.

Awe… Was looking for some big returns out of a potential deal…. Oh well, still looking forward to what he has to offer us on the field…

We should think about trading ASJ. He’s injury prone and the TE we have block better.

Trade Charles sims…I throw up every time Martin comes off the field…don’t see the need for so many sims snaps…

Sims has played well. Yeah, let’s get rid of players who contribute to a growing offense.

Jets may be looking for a qb. Glennon for a 2nd round pick.
November 2nd, 2015 at 7:50 am
Yeah let’s trade our backup qb because Jameis is impervious to injury! Unbreakabajaboo!
I hate continuity! Let’s continue to stock up on draft picks so we can trade those guys for more draft picks. Glennon for a 2nd? That’s like a whole round profit. That’ll make up for all the players we’ve drafted high and let walk to other teams for pennies.

Yes. I’ll take a second round pick for a backup any day.

Re-sign him.

Martin needs to be slapped with the franchise tag this year. We have the money. Make him prove it two years in a row.

He was NEVER ON the trade block. Was just media hype.
Really, the thing to remember is which reporters claimed “sources with knowledge of the situation”. Those are the liars.

@Matt
I like that idea.
It’s not like we need it for anyone else.

Trade Glennon to the Jets now!
November 2nd, 2015 at 9:39 am
I think giving him a contract at this point might be a mistake. He still has to complete the season for one thing.
We’re not even halfway into the season, and he has had durability issues in the past.
Make him earn it, franchise him a year (if he stays healthy) and worry over a contract next year.

I like what Matt said. I don’t think anyone wants to lose Martin, especially Jameis, but there are legitimate injury concerns. Using the franchise tag on him, if he is unwilling to accept a “team friendly”, deal gives us another year to evaluate not only him but the other backs in house as well.

Glennon to Jets for a 3rd and I’d take that any day. If Winston goes down does it really matter who starts in his place? we arent going anywhere this year. Not with that awful D.

Trading Martin would be a huge mistake. Keep trading away top picks is how this team is where it’s at. At some point you got to step back and look at your player assessment and development.
Last thing you want is this team riding on Sims to carry the ball.

Spent all last year telling people Doug Martin didn’t forget how to run…
