Bucs Have Three Rookie Of The Year Candidates
November 1st, 2015Whatever you think about the Bucs right now, it’s undeniable that there is some wizardry at play in the Tampa Bay front office.
Seven games into the NFL season, and the Bucs have three legitimate Rookie of the Year candidates.
First, there’s 21-year-old Jamies Winston, America’s Quarterback, who set the rookie record for most consecutive games to start a career with 200 yards passing. And Jameis has played damn well in five of seven starts, including an extraordinary gutsy performance today.
Then there’s another 21-year-old, middle linebacker Kwon Alexander, with two interceptions, a forced fumble/strip and six official passes defensed in seven games.
And then there’s Ali Marpet, the pride of Hobart already is an above average starting right guard, a position he didn’t even play in college.
Yeah, it’s early on any 2015 draft pick, but the Bucs have quite a haul to date by any measure. Starting rookie left tackle Donovan Smith isn’t garbage, either.
Hope is alive and well, Bucs fans.

So much hope once Lovie gets fired. When we have a real, competent NFL head coach then the fanbase will rally again.
Jameis = hope
Lovie = dope.
November 1st, 2015 at 5:54 pm
Jason Licht has made risky moves and seems to be paying for all of us… Dye, Howard Jones, Jacquies, Kwon on the 4th, Jameis picked over Mariota even with the off field issues…
November 1st, 2015 at 5:54 pm
Winston is the hope of this team. I did not give us any chance today and I was wrong. I will gladly eat my crow. If I have to eat crow every week, that would be fine with me. Whatever it takes to see wins.

Here Here and Here. I second that emotion.

Todd Gurley is literally running away with that rookie of the year trophy.
November 1st, 2015 at 5:56 pm
Was gonna say “Cue the ‘I don’t know how to stick to commenting on a blog post topic so I’ll just reiterate Lovie sucks’ gang”, but was beat to the punch.
November 1st, 2015 at 5:57 pm
But the reality is none of them are named Todd Gurley. Still a ways to go before end of season though.

Cannot wit to get lovie out of the bucs organization but love what i am seeing from jameis
November 1st, 2015 at 5:58 pm
ummmmmmmmmmm
has oline ever made rookie of the year?
November 1st, 2015 at 5:59 pm
I gotta get me some Hobart gear…..
November 1st, 2015 at 5:59 pm
Gurley has it locked up, he might already by the best RB in the league. Stefon Diggs too…damn how nice it’d be to have him as a #2 WR. Jameis won with some terrible pass catching options besides Evans who’s still very dropsie.

bucs quarterback and savior, jameis christ.
america’s quarterback = tom brady

Gotta give L&L credit for the draft so far, the first 4 picks have played well. Of course it’s too early to pronounce someone a bust or a home run, but it’s a start. Just wish Lovie would take advantage of the talent he has.

What’s is really exciting is this coming draft , should Mostly be def , as the off is starting to get it , even with v jax and asj out and me clearly regressing, if we can get some great players in that secondary and a pass rushers, we might be a playoff team,
November 1st, 2015 at 6:03 pm
We are now drafting well these last two years. Now if we can draft defense next year and rebuild our defense which has largely been ignored thepast two drafts. We all know free agents aren’t the answer.
November 1st, 2015 at 6:05 pm
I think it’s between Jameis and Kwon Alexander. I don’t remember when a Oline guy won it.
Consider this….
…with the picks Lovie has made in the draft, and the results he’s getting from them…do you really want to fire him before the next draft?
If you do…you are crazy. Lovie built this offense. Koetter is developing it.
Jason Licht brought in the free agents…mostly defensive ones.
Give Lovie a draft for the defense and we will be SB contenders.

I’m sorry, but it’s obvious that Jameis is being asked to do twice what Gurly is doing. Winston is the leader of that offense, and is working with substandard receivers, a hampered Evans, and an inconsistent oline.
Gurly looks very good, especially recovering from the injury, but he isn’t being asked to do what Winston is doing.

come on now bonzai…
how do you know which picks are lovie’s and which are licht’s? i don’t tthink lovie was as gungho for winston as licht was.

FYI, Lovie and Licht drafted these 3 guys so I’m assuming the dope your referring to is “very good(Adjective)” and NOT the “a stupid person(noun)” which would best describe YOU..
LOL!

Love gets no credit for the development of the offensive player? Players drafted while he is the head coach. The players on defense that are making plays were brought in on Lovie’s watch. Big Bubba showed up for one play think god.
November 1st, 2015 at 8:19 pm
I agree 15 draft looks good but 14 was a bust. So I think jury is still out on licht. Plus his fa picks last year busted. So jury still out. But this draft definitly encouraging. I’d be surprised if he’s not back next year with or without love..
November 1st, 2015 at 8:56 pm
Lovie is a HORRIBLE talent evaluator and defensive coordinator, the Falcons stupid mistakes cost them the game Lovie did not one single thing to win game, he did do one to lose it
November 1st, 2015 at 10:37 pm
Per Pro Football Focus – Of the nine rookie guards with at least 100 pass blocks, Ali Marpet has the best pass blocking efficiency at 97.0. He’s allowed one sack and seven hurries on 210 pass blocks. Even if you look at all the Guards picked in this years draft, Ali Marpet is the best. Just think when he builds more strength. He is going to be an All Pro. Jameis Winston could be the rookie of the year based on how much he is improving as the season continues. Kwon Alexander looked phenomenal today. He is fantastic against the run and is getting better vs the pass. If we could just get Donovan Smith to be consistent.
November 2nd, 2015 at 1:26 am
Unless this team starts winning consistently, Buccaneer rookies will be overlooked for that top honor. But to hell with the accolades… just win dammit.
November 2nd, 2015 at 1:31 am
Hold on, 2014 draft was a bust???? Mike Evans and Charles Sims are hits. Kevin Pamphile is developing and ASJ is healing. 4 out of 6 picks is no bust.
November 2nd, 2015 at 3:42 am
Yeah LOViE Smith definitely is making progress and its been noticeable too. Hes getting this team over right now with those Schiano cogs and serviceable veterans that hes familiar with. I feel the wins are gonna keep comin too as WINSton isn’t turning the ball over the coordinator is working his strength in week by week with the playcalling. More wins than last season and still thinking playoffs again in November. The players that LOVie has drafted the last two years have been impact players(ASJ, Mike Evans, Chuck Sims, Kevin Pamphile, Jameis Winston, Ali Marpet, Donovan Smith, Kwon Alexander) all have been producing and leading this organization in the direction.###play4WINStonfihht4LOViE

The reason the team has been so bad is because of such poor drafts in the past. there is not 1 pick from the 2009 draft on the team (Hell, even in the league?). I am still not totally sold on last years class, but this years looks pretty damn good so far.

It seems like our rookies have always played well. Benn showed flashes, barron looked great, caddy and doug were great, clayton and evans ect…
However they never improved in year 2 and then went to the pro bowl in year 3. I like these guys but they gotta continue to develop. It looks good so far!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 2nd, 2015 at 12:29 pm
after cadillac williams, chris simms, shaun king, mike williams, and michael clayton – just to name a few – i know better than to get too excited about a promising rookie campaign. it can still go either way for most guys. they (some of them, anyways) figure out the league as the years go on, but the league figures them out too.
