Real Balance Achieved

October 26th, 2015

Jaguars Buccaneers Foootball

Joe wanted to punch a wall when Lovie Smith repeatedly said the Bucs achieved great balance in their win versus Jacksonville two weeks ago.

Tampa Bay threw 19 times and ran 40.

Yesterday was a different kind of balanced offense in Washington. Real balance, not the BS kind.

Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, threw 29 times and he handed off 29 times. And whaddya know, Lovie? The offense racked up big numbers and didn’t turn the ball over until Charles Sims tossed a lateral in the closing seconds.

Joe hopes Lovie realizes he doesn’t have to fear Jameis. More Jameis is a good thing.

Perhaps yesterday’s strong showing, the rookie QB’s fourth solid outing in six career games, will inspire Lovie to let Jameis play with the game on the line.

Meaningless Bucs field goals, ones that ultimately ask the NFL’s worst secondary to win games, are getting real old.

I don’t think it’s in Lovie’s DNA to go for the win. I also think Coach Koetter is handcuffed and could really let this O shine if Lovie let him. Play not to lose right Lovie. I have news for you Mr. Smith , you better let Jamies and the o off the chain, because you need to out score your opponents, since you D can’t stop a wet napkin.

  2. Buc Neckid Says:

Anybody that thought that the BUCS were going from Worst to First was delusional.
This is the season that everybody predicted before it started.
What does everybody think a 4-12 or 6-10 team looks like anyways?
However, The brighter side / takeaway is that
More games like that under Jameis’ belt this year is a good thing
    He had some mistakes… yes
    But definite measured growth.

  3. FortMyersDave Says:

That is great Joe and I have to hand koetter credit for achieving balance but you know what? A ****ing tD in the second half would have equaled a W; insuring that Lovie could not throw this one away; but 2 FGS and a bunch of ineptitude on Lovie’s side of the ball equals a familiar fact to Buc fans; another loss! yeah the Bucs played great on O Joe, but in the 2nd hald 6 points did not cut it; the Bucs d is a liability and the Bucs should have gotten a tad more aggressive in the red zone to force a TD on the Skins and make it more difficult for Lovie’s D to lose.. 10 points in the secocnd half from Winston & Company would have made the skins get a 2nd onside kick to win, possible considering that O”dea is special teams coach but unlikely…. The D lost the game but the O did not step on the Sins neck when they could have: namely a 3rd and goal from the one…. Sims? seriously? Lovie told Koetter that we needed to move up in the draft order, why else call a play that would end up being sdud when martin of Winston could have run it in??? Ugh!!!!!!.

  4. bucfanforlife Says:

Yes, the D lost the game. So FIRE the Defense/Head coach. It’s a reasonable request to the Glazers. If Lovie was a player, would he still be on the team? What more proof do you need to conclude that he is totally inept?

  5. MT Tom Says:

Off ballance team achieved. Jameis and the Offensive scheme surprisingly excl and the DEFENSE gives up the game. This wasn’t a decent offense that carved up our secondary.

Lovie is terrible. Any coach that feels he can only have a decent defense by relying on retreads who ONCE played wel in his scheme is stuck in the past with his accomplishments. Lovie is stuck in HIS scheme. Failure. Now, because he cannot adjust his scheme to the roster WE have to pay the price of watching another losing season, another new coaching regime and probably, in all likelihood a setback for a very talented rookie qb who will have a new OC, new QB Coach and a new scheme.

Unacceptable failure by Lovie for NOT being able to modernize and update his plan to NFL 2015.

I think Licht has done well, I like Koetter (dont think he is currently HC material) like Jameis more than I ever anticipated. Lovie sunk them all and this franchise for at least three more years. F@$k!

  6. dave Says:

i love reading people write about jameis still like he is the reason we aren’t winning games. if we didn’t have him we wouldn’t even have a chance and he’s not losing games for us. its the piss poor excuse for coverage our secondary plays and penalities!!!

  7. FortMyersDave Says:

Buc Neckid: I agree that Winston has shown progress under Koetter! Yes he has! the sad thing is that he will lose Koetter when Lovie gets fired at the end of the season and have to start fresh with a new OC…. Lovie is not going to win 6 games, you yourself admit that, in fact I question if anyone can name 2 more wins to get Tampa to 4-12 under Lovie’s D? The sad hard truth is that lovie is dragging the franchise down with him. A wise owner would recognize this and also recognize that the offense is making strides and find a way to keep that progress moving forward while addressing the garbage fire that is Lovie Smith’s defense and head coaching…. taht is what is holding the bucs down right now, a competent HC would have the Bucs at 4-2 right now by beating Houston and Dc; not a huge reach….. Now where are the wins gonna come from? the saints, Chicag? maybe but I would not bet on it with Lovie’s D giving up 30+ a game on any given sunday! Lovie has to go people, keep koetter and can Lovie, do it now before lovie gets every coach fired!

  8. flmike Says:

The talent is evident, it’s the coaching that is beyond suspect, and if anybody took the time to research it, this is Lovie Smith, this is who he is, a mediocre coach who rode the coattails of men much smarter and more accomplished than he will ever be. Dungy, Vermil, Angelo, these are the men who’s coattails he rode, and once given the reins he spit the bit. Chris Collins pointed out something that I hadn’t remembered when he rhetorically asked “Who would trade Greg Olsen?” well guess who, that was Lovie Smith.

  9. Charlie V Says:

The only thing we have to fear is Lovie the loser!!!!!
Can someone tell me one good quality about this liar?

  10. Buccfan37 Says:

I’m starting to wonder if the Glazer’s are not using woeful Lovie to snatch the Bucs away to London. This hire and the results seem awful fishy to me.

  11. Tim S Says:

When you have a collapse on defense like we did yesterday you have to look at leadership. The leaders on defense are Lovie & McCoy. Lovie is holding everyone back with his conservative nature (this includes the offense) & McCoy is simply not capable of leading men on the field. He’s incredibly talented but lacks the heart & fire you’re on-field leader needs. Laughing it up after the game with the opposing scrub QB that just lit you up? Absolutely ridiculous. I’ve seen better leadership in slow pitch softball.

It’s a good thing our offense keeps improving or watching the games would be damn near impossible. I’m in favor of firing Lovie and installing Koetter as the interim head coach and letting Frazier resume calling the defensive plays. Our GM has been solid in the draft so I don’t feel a change is needed there. If anything I’d expand his role and let him take over free agency in addition to the draft.

  12. bucrightoff Says:

Koetter doesn’t necessarily have to go depending on the Bucs next coach. Now if it’s an offensive coach coming in he’s probably going to want to run his own offense, but if they hire another (better) defensive coach, Koetter will likely be back.

My HC list for next year

    1- Sean Payton
    2- Nick Saban
    3- Kevin Sumlin

  14. celly Says:

    Speaking of that lateral:

Did anyone else see how pissed off Jameis was when Sims did that? I think Winston had the thought that with 0:12 left on the game clock, he would’ve had a chance to spike it.

At that spot, we’re looking at about a 57 yard FG. Now, we at least have a shot at the end there.

Alas, it should’ve never came to that, but seeing how fired up Jameis was, and then immediately going over to Sims to console him only further increases the legend that is Jameis.

  15. R.O Says:

Ummm… Jags game. Look at yards gained per pass plays/run plays. Why are you using # of plays run as the measuring point? Was pretty much 50/50.. Nice try though Joe’s.

  16. Ed Says:

Jameis played great, but lets be real the redskins defense is just as bad as ours. They just happen to have a coach that wants to win.

  17. Dave Says:

    Creamsicle

Sabin?? He is not leaving Alabama for the Bucs.

Problem with Payton is he is offense. This offense is coming along. I wouldn’t change that.

They need a DC and a HC. Who just manages or a defensive minded HC

  18. Tampa Tony Says:

Until Lovie changes his approach the losses will continue. the legend of loser Lovie grows

  19. Tampa Tony Says:

No more defensive minded head coaches!!!!! They typically coach not to lose and lack the aggression to put teams away.

Three defensive minded coaches in a row!!! Three bad hires in a row

  20. J Says:

What’s scary is this Washington is awful. Next week? We gave Atl right? At least Titans keep it tight With them.

  21. FortMyersDave Says:

Buccfan37: the best way to get the Sports authority to agree to sending 2 games out of RJS is by showing he Authority that no one will be upset if the Bucs did play 2 at Wembley. I think you have a very valid point about the Glazers pulling a “Wag The dog” in order ot move 2 games to London, probably in tandem with the Jags to give the NFL 4 at Wembley; throw in the Lambs and you have a 6 pack of games…. It seems like a fitting agenda for the Glazer snakes… and if the bucs are that bad they may not even have to send a Man U game or 2 to RJS which is what the Sports Authority probably wants for each game of Buc ball in London….. The @-hole Glazers will not want to trade a Man U game per buc game as it would erase a lot of their profits and divert them to Hillsborough County….

  22. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Dave, I VEHEMENTLY disagree about “offensive minded” or “defensive minded” head coaches.

Head coaching isn’t about X’s and O’s. It’s about being a manager. A manager of people, a manager of the game — a leader of men. Give me a guy that understands how to run an organization over a guy that knows how to run an offense or defense any day of the week.

Saban recently said that he would STILL be in Miami if he was allowed to go after a franchise QB. Saban recruited jameis hard. Our young QB makes this a very attractive job and if Saban wants to give the NFL one more shot, this would be a definite possibility for him. Personally I think he’s exactly what we need.

My HC list for next year

    1- Sean Payton
    2- Nick Saban
    3- Kevin Sumlin

    My list….

    1. Hope that Lovie manages to somehow turn it around and prove that its worth it to come back next year
    2. Dirk Koetter – The offense has looked decent and has shown some steady improvement. It’s imperative that we try to keep some sort of continuity with Jameis. If he really is the future of the franchise, we should be doing everything possible to make and keep him comfortable.
    3. Hue Jackson – Got the Raiders to 8-8. Has fielded a top offense in Cincy since being there.

  24. Johnny "America's Commenter" Dejay Says:

“If the offense can give us just 17 points, we will win most of our games.” – Warren Sapp

“If the offense can give us just 45 points, we will win half of our games.” – Gerald McCoy

  25. Jordyn Says:

You win as a team and you lose as a team and it starts with the head coach. To be up by 24 and let them come back to win is absurd!!! Taking dougernaut out on the 1 and putting in Sims was totally lovie smith. Kotter is the reason doug martin is still here cause lovie wanted to let him go. In the end it is a team loss but the finger gets pointed directly at the leader first which is lovie smith. I agree that we need to get rid of love and get another defensive minded head coach that isn’t stuck in the 90’s.

  26. Bill Says:

    Everyone has valid points.

We need to take the same steps Miami did and fire Lovie. Make Koetter interim HC and name Nickerson DC. Then, if that doesn’t right the ship look for a new HC at the end of the season that will keep Koetter as OC because the offense isn’t the problem for the first time in our history.

Besides that, the players need to be accountable for their own actions on the field. Maybe, if a personal foul costs them a game’s pay they would play smarter.

Come on, man! Let’s turn this ship around, fire the cannons on all sides and not let off on the throttle until the fat lady sings!

lovie has acheived perfect balance on the stool bucs fans want to hang him from.

  28. joe jr Says:

13 flags for penalties against Tampa! Hard to watch
Bucs play every week with so many costly mistakes.
Lovie…..that’s what a coach is for!??

  29. robert long Says:

sorry lovie your the d coordinator and head coach responsible for a secondary that cant cover anyone very little pass rush and 16 penalties with an extra week off great job
