Redskins Are Post-Halftime Chokers
October 23rd, 2015Some football numbers lie, but you can’t argue points.
The Bucs allow a whopping 29.6 points per game. The Redskins (2-4) have scored just three points in the third quarter all season. And the Bucs haven’t scored a first-quarter touchdown.
Have fun figuring out this game, number nerds.
Redskins head coach Jay Gruden believes he’s deciphered what’s happening when his team implodes to start the second half of games.
The Associated Press took notes — and they’re not pretty.
Gruden made the case that the most striking thing about it is that his players seem to lose their “edge” during the break after the second quarter. If the coaching staff can manage to rectify that, he insisted, results should change.
Apparently in Washington, things are happening at halftime other than snacks and urination.
Joe’s been blubbering about this all week. The Redskins are a struggling football team that’s short on talent, a bad team right now . After leading 13-10 at halftime to the Jets on Sunday, they were blown out 34-20. And it was only that close because the Jets screwed up a punt.
If the Bucs want to consider themselves a decent football team, Sunday in Washington is a game they must win.

I know I’m beating a dead horse, but try taking the ball first if you win the coin toss. I notice on TV the announcers don’t even tell you who won the toss anymore. I also notice the Pats always kick off if winning the toss. The first drive sets the tone on offense with a better chance to exploit the defense. I know some disagree, like you 87. I’ll stick with the surprise element potential starting off with the ball.

This is probably the last bad football team we play (saints still) so its a must win coming of a bye week. Go bucs!

I prefer to kick off first, it’s nice to know you have the ball 1st after halftime, gives you the chance to add to your lead or to start your comeback without having to worry about the opponent pushing ahead before you get your chance in the 3rd quarter.

Our defense absolutely must play extremely well Sunday……..shut down their short passing game & the run….force them to go downfield on 3rd & long…..
As far as offense, I liked what I saw against Jax (who wouldn’t)…..but I suspect it won’t continue to work……the dink & dunk works for everybody else against us…..we should employ it.
The Jax game was actually won by special teams & lack of turnovers….we need that to happen Sunday also.

We still have the Giants, Colts, Eagles, Bears, and Cowboys left on the schedule too, plus we still aren’t sure if Atlanta is as good as their record says yet. I’m not saying that those teams are as bad as Washington, but those are all winnable games.

The Redskins have been outscored 46-3 in the third quarter this season.
Correct Walter…that’s my opinion too.

Walter that’s my opinion too on both your posts.

Agree with all the posts here and Joe nails Sunday’s game with this observation.
If the Bucs want to consider themselves a decent football team, Sunday in Washington is a game they must win.
That pretty much wraps it up for me. We know the Bucs are not a great team, but are they an improving young team? Are they DECENT? I agree completely with Joe. You can’t call yourself decent if you come out of a bye week, well rested and lose to the Deadskins. This is a big game because it is a true measuring stick. Do we belong with the sucko teams like the Jags and Skins or can we at least beat the bottom dwellers and lay a minimal claim to decency.

Rookie qbs, backup qbs even third string qbs light this soft d up, so Cousins will have a field day on Sunday

Worries me some that it is a must win for them. Coming off two losses, headed toward their bye with NE lurking on the other side. They are staring at 2-6 if they don’t win this weekend. This should be a 10 pt victory for the good guys, but to execute on that mental mistakes and penalties must be controlled. 24-14

You can’t call yourself decent when you have players go on local TV(Fox 13) and admit they let up at the end of the game because they think the game done and over. 86 yards in 1min 45 seconds was it? And what coach lets his player even think that way? You play to the Finish.

I feel like this is a game where we should win in all phases of the game.
Doesnt even have to be amazing but solid showings by offense, defense, and special teams and bucs win 24 – 10.
Really hope too see improvement by this defense, the scoring against them must go down.

Skins that will be inactive for Sunday’s game.
WR DeSean Jackson, C Kory Lichtensteiger and CB’s Chris Culliver and DeAngelo Hall.
Go Bucs!

Washington is a bad football team? The Redskins are a struggling football team that’s short on talent, a bad team right now? They beat the Eagles and the Rams? Yes, they have some injuries but they were winning at halftime against a pretty good Jets team. They have played a more difficult schedule than we have. If you read the Redskin SBNation site there fans feel we are disrespecting them by taking them so lightly. They are already looking past this game. Yet here we are with “they suck”, there “bad” and we should be “decent”? Do you know why the Bucs spanked them last year? Because McCown (15-23, 288, 2 TD, 0 INT, 137.5 QB Rating) had his best game. Washington is going to pound the ball with RB Matt Jones. They are going to blitz Winston over and over again. Winston can not turn the ball over and not only does our defense have to stop the run, how are we going to stop Cousins from throwing at Jennings? Sound familiar?

So are we. We’ve had a way of playing down to the competition for a decade.
