“Winning Always Adds To The Buy-In”
October 21st, 2015Dammit, the Bucs must jump their record to 3-3 with a win against the dreadful Redskins on Sunday.
Today, Joe talked about winning with one of the few dudes in the Bucs locker room that owns a Super Bowl ring, defensive tackle and captain Clinton McDonald.
Joe wanted McDonald’s take on what a victory, a back-to-back victory, the first of the Lovie Smith regime, would mean inside the walls of One Buc Palace.
“Two in a row would kind of bring about some consistency with what we’re trying to do here, and what the coaches are emphasizing in the meetings and on the field,” McDonald said.
From the greater conversation, Joe really got the feeling that McDonald was saying the Bucs coaches and players together needed the win to make them more of unit. So Joe asked McDonald if that was accurate.
“Winning always adds to the buy-in, adds to the energy,” McDonald said. “But you still got to be focused and have a what’s-next attitude regardless of whether you win or lose.’
The Bucs can’t lose Sunday if they want to consider themselves a team making progress. And it seems if they do win, then that progress gets kicked up a significant notch.

Last week, Redskins coach Jay Gruden said receiver DeSean Jackson would return by the Tampa Bay game at the latest. That was before he tweaked his hamstring in practice Thursday. The Redskins will monitor him this week and hope that he can play Sunday.

Jackson has been ruled out for Sunday. McDonald is absolutely right about the buy-in, I’ve said it on here many times that when coaches have you doing something and it results in wins buy in is easy, when it doesn’t result in wins you have some skepticism in the system.

Just about like every other fan not drinking the kook-aid – when they put together a streak consisting of wins against something besides bottom feeders like Jax and NO, then I’ll believe they’re making progress.
As far as the team goes, they get paid to perform at their utmost. A lot of money. If losing means they’re playing a little less hard, and winning means they’re going to play better – doesn’t that say something about coaching? I mean hell, all you have to do to make a team play better is to win? That sounds weird. Shouldn’t they always be going 100%?
