“You Don’t Want To Ruin That Continuity”
October 21st, 2015If you’ve ever referenced the importance of gelling on an offensive line, then don’t you dare tell Joe that former starting center Evan Smith deserves to get his job back on Sunday in Washington.
Joe’s glad a guy who blocked for stars like Curtis Martin, Cadillac Williams and Mike Alstott agrees.
Anthony Becht is one big voice who wouldn’t mess with the chemistry on the Bucs’ offensive line. The former Bucs, Jets, Rams, Cardinals and Chiefs tight end was asked about Evan Smith getting inserted Sunday. Becht was firm that new starter Joe Hawley should stay put.
“If you’re getting production back-to-back weeks from running the ball effectively, you don’t want to ruin that continuity,” Becht said on WDAE-AM 620 recently.
Amen!
Smith returned to practice yesterday after missing three games with an ankle injury. But that just shouldn’t matter.
Same goes for Demar Doston when he’s ready, assuming Gosder Cherilus is still performing.
Joe was very happy to hear Lovie Smith say yesterday that he doesn’t subscribe to the notion that starters can’t lose their job due to injury.
That got Joe thinking about why the hell Josh McCown returned to the starting lineup last year after his thumb injury. Mike Glennon was not only outplaying McCown, he was in need of valuable work for a young quarterback.

Joe, I have warned you in the past not to expect logic from Lovie.

Joe, Joe, Joe..McClown WAS the tank.

McCown or Gleenon we were only going to be a 2 and whatever team. Its as simple as that.

Our line is better when Smith is not the center

I think Lovie was referring to Jenkins. Rest assured that smith will start, not saying he should but this is Lovie smith we’re talking about after all.
I’d keep hawley but I’d insert Dotson as I believe he blocks much better than Cherilus. Start banks and let Moore get some more playing time.

Just remember Joe without Josh McCown there would be no Jameis.

87- stop perpetrating a fraud

Had the rock not left the team in shambles due to incompetence the dismantling and rebuilding would go faster.
But alas.

I’m with you here. I don’t care about injuries and jobs, only performance.
And McCown got his job back so we could tank the season without appearing to do so on purpose. But you knew that.

LMAO….the jury is still out as far as I’m concerned. We’re only 5 games in. Atleast I didn’t come into this season expecting total failure unlike some people I know. Being negative is bad for your health, and mine sucks lately. So I’ll believe until they give me utterly no reason not to be. Hey btw Lovie started blitzing so that’s something positive. Right?
October 21st, 2015 at 10:13 pm
Blitzing means the DL can’t penetrate. It means the 2016 draft will feature a Defensive End as the first pick for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
