Lovie Calls Out “Batman And Robin”

October 13th, 2015

Lovie talks caped crusaders

During happier Bucs times, Tampa Bay was coming off a 7-9 season and had recently thieved a Hall of Famer in his prime, Darrelle Revis, from the Jets for first- and third-round draft picks.

Revis declared himself “Robin” to “Batman” safety Dashon Goldson, and Bucs fans were fantasizing.

Lovie Smith blew up that dynamic duo, but the head coach was talking about the new Bucs’ “Batman and Robin” last night on his radio show. That’s right, Lovie actually dropped a caped crusaders reference on Doug Martin and Charles Sims.

“As a running back, once you start really feeling it, and you feel like when you get the hands on the ball you can make a couple of guys miss,” Lovie mused. “We’ve been doing a great job blocking up front, but they can get more players than you have. They can outnumber you in the box, where you have to make somebody miss. That’s either miss or run over that person.

“And that’s what I love what Doug is doing right now. It’s not like it’s third-and-short and we need to bring in a short-yardage running back. Or if it calls on you to pass block or catch the ball out of the backfield, he can do all of those things. And when he can’t do it, or needs a blow, you know, I mean it’s Batman and Robin, you need somebody else coming in. That’s why Charles Sims has a done a great job, too, in relief of Doug.”

Joe realizes Lovie’s words didn’t flow too well in the quote above. The head coach seemed intoxicated by the mere thought of his pound-the-rock offense.

I’m intoxicated by the thought of our offense blowing up the rest of the season, if we can keep playing disciplined and passionate like we did sunday.

I love the playmaking potential of this Dynamic Duo.

And I love when Jameis efficiently delivers the ball to our playmakers.

Hopefully, we can use this last game as a blueprint for success. And maybe even add a plethora of deep balls once we start rolling…

We beat another 1 armed qb……wake me when this team does not suck

I still remember Hawaiian and myself and others dumbfounded that the Bucs wouldn’t pay Revis the 16 million a year. Anybody with half a brain could understand the value that Revis has and it’s worth every penny of 16 mill. Imagine this defense after a solid draft with Kwon etc and having Revis shut down one side of the field. Our whole defense would be greatly improved. I’m still sour over Revis not being re-signed and being allowed to walk with no return compensation. That was inexcusable and stupid. We are far from salary cap issues but we still said no thanks. I posted the following in the wrong article.

Thanks to the win against the hapless Jags, Lovie’s job is safe …… for now. Have you seen the rest of our schedule? It’s brutal. We could easily end up winning only 1 or 2 more games if this team continues at this pace. Our defense is a sieve and while the defense stepped up to make the plays that won us the game against the Jags, it doesn’t change the fact that teams have had no problem moving the ball against this team. The recipe is so incredibly simple. Throw it short over the middle and it will be positive plays. That’s how Mariota carved us up and that’s what let the Aints back in the game. It’s also why Bortles had a career day against us. This is a major problem. Lovie won’t be able to hide behind Dirk’s ever-improving offense if this defense can’t stop anybody. The D Line has gotten some sacks but the pressure is still scarce. The hope is that Banks and Verner etc can be fully healthy out of the bye because Jennings and Jenkins ain’t gonna cut the mustard. Jenkins had a decent game but there were plays that the Jags missed against him when he was burned. No confidence in our secondary minus Banks and Verner. Kwon is the real deal and Lavonte had a strong comeback game. LB’s have gotten better and should be just fine but that D Line is an issue. This defense is and will always be predicated on constant pressure from the D Line. The LB’s are asked to cover so frequently that you can only expect them to hang with the receivers for a few seconds. I’m still in celebration mode but this team has a long way to go before we can smile and look towards next year with potential.

The Dungy-ball winning formula is back! Pound the running game and ask the Rookie QB to manage the game. Don’t ask him to read a defense or throw deep, and DEFINITELY don’t ask him to throw an out pattern. Just hand the ball off and throw short screen passes and this team will pile up some wins.

  6. DB55 Says:

Still not sold on Sims. On his first carry (toss right) he had nothing but green grass in front of him but he tripped over a blade of grass and fell out of bounds. Either he tripped or his ankles just went out on him. He’s weak and can’t pass block worth a hit. He’s going to get JW hurt, pure liability.

You can’t possibly argue that Rainey isn’t a better RB in all aspects.

Somewhere Aqib Talib is smiling 🙂

  8. ElioT Says:

Somewhere, every player cut or traded by this team who’s still in the league is smiling.

    #noflyzone!

    Siege this!

    Go Sucs!

  9. Tom Edrington Says:

The only real “Batman” was linebacker Richard Woods back in the day……he was good enough and didn’t need a “Robin” sidekick….

  10. ShameisTheFarmer Says:

slow your roll people….we beat Jacksonville

  11. Bucco Brice Says:

Sims is a one trick pony – sit him on the bench…Martin is a “HALFBACK” and our horse…more martin, less sims

  12. CC Says:

    Pro Football Focus
“What was especially impressive about Sunday’s performance was that he did it despite a combined -8.2 run blocking grade from Tampa Bay’s offensive line. 71 of Martin’s 123 yards came after contact, and he forced six missed tackles—he had just eight missed tackles all last season.”

    Run Dougie Run!!!

  13. McBuc Says:

To all of those ripping the jags for being a bad team, try to remember so are the book to all of those ripping the jags for being a bad team, try to remember so are the bucs. It baffles me that people find any negative possible. Tampa bay is improving… enjoy it for a change!

  15. Drywaller Buc Says:

I like Sims. He’s got a great set of hands. He’s chalking up big gains game after game and scoring too. Hell get better.

  16. DB55 Says:

Move sims to the slot. We don’t have a true slot receiver and use Rainey as the #2 RB. Simple as that!

More like Pinky and The Brain right now…
