“There Had To Be Like 6 Or 7 Interceptions”

October 7th, 2015

Jameisrookie4What the heck was going on at Buccaneers practice this afternoon at One Buc Palace?

Speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network this evening, Gerald McCoy was very upbeat about how his defense returned to the practice field following the drubbing by the Panthers on Sunday.

Talking about what impressed him, McCoy said of today’s action, “There had to be like six or seven interceptions.” And McCoy went on to say that did not include the 7-on-7 periods.

That’s a hell of a lot of interceptions. Three can be a lot on practice, and that would be in all phases of practice.

McCoy didn’t say who threw all those picks, but Joe sincerely hopes they weren’t tossed by Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback. That’s an awfully big number, especially after Jameis told media today (minutes before practice) that his major focus for the rest of the season would be ball security.

I heard that quote and thought the exact same thing. That is horrible news for the team if Jameis threw all of those. If I was McCoy I would be terrified that the defense was able to make that many picks. No need to be happy about that unless the offense they’re facing has a different logo on their helmet.

  2. Danr Says:

sometimes you practice to rule out. Can i make this pass if i do this, can i do that…. ETC.

you are not always practicing the way you plan on playing.

the biggest thing to take away from this is that they were caught, not that the passes were bad. A defender catching the ball around here is a hallelujah.

  3. Buccfan37 Says:

That’s an omen that the Bucs will get at least one pick off the Jags, mark it down.

  4. Waterboy Says:

Hopefully that was against the scout team and not Jameis if so it’s going to be a long day on Sunday. That is unless the defense can start turning those INT’s into TD’s because the offense doesn’t seem to be able to find the end zone on a consistent basis.

  5. Hawaiian Buc Says:

First team offense almost never goes against first team defense during the season. The second string and practice squad guys are trying to emulate the Jags offense, and vice versa with the defense.

  6. Hawaiian Buc Says:

McCoy even said in the interview he doesn’t watch the first team offense, because when they are on the field, the defense is sitting down on the side.

  7. BucYeah Says:

    GO CUBS

  8. Tim S. Says:

Congrats. Instead of 7 interceptions in a meaningless practice, how about a sack from this blowhard at a pivotal moment in a game? All talk.

  9. DB55 Says:

    Waterboy

You are correct sir. This entire system is predicated on the def scoring points. Putting the honeous on Jameis is cool and He’ll take it but this debacle is on mr smith and his merry men.

  10. Clint Says:

I am getting really worried about Winston. Seriously.

  11. Lamarcus Says:

History repeats itself and history indicates that Bortles is going to have a career day on us like other sorry pro qbs. Simple as that. You can’t fix the product we have on field over night. But being a true bucs fan I’m hopeful we can we can dominate this game. Like every game, just hopeful. Unlike these unreal bucs fans that post bs, I’m rotting for my boys. Every day . Win, lose or draw

  12. Trubucfan22 Says:

Didnt mccoy get a big sack last week? Do you expect him to win the game by himself? Not even a quarterback can do that.

  13. Lamarcus Says:

And winston will be fine. Just like starting a job you never be good on day 1,2,3,4…….. etc. And for the Marriotta parade… if u did start that good on ur first few days of work u always fall off.

  14. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    @Clint

Don’t worry about Jameis, he’s fine. As long as he’s enthusiastic to play for the Bucs, puts in the time to study tape, and works on developing a better connection with his receivers we have the best quarterback. It’s the coaching staff we should worry about because they have hand picked “the best players to fit their system” and their system is still crap

  15. ElioT Says:

Ever hear any boxers talk about how many KOs they had in sparring sessions?

Shut up and do something when it matters for once!

Can anyone remember the last impact play McCoy made?

    Siege this!

    Go Sucs!

  16. ElioT Says:

Watch Bortles look like Jesus against this defense.

  17. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

LOL @ “Watch Bortles look like Jesus”

  18. Capt.Tim Says:

    Tim S
Gotta be the dumbest poster here.
McCoy leads ALL DEFENSIVE TACKLES IN THE LEAGUE IN SACKS FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS
How ignorant can you be- on a team with this many bad players- to Bad Mouth one of few great ones we have.

Why dont you take a break from posting, and go learn about Football.
You obviously dont have a clue

  19. FortMyersDave Says:

Everyone is worried about Bortles; yeah bad QBs tend to have career days vs Lovie’s D but the guy who I am really concerned about is TJ Yeldon; the Jag rb…. The kid finally got a good game in vs the Dolts and I fear that he may have one of those kind of games where Berman and company will simply put his stats on display with Berman asking Ditka, jackson and MeShawn: “Wow, did any of you guys see that coming from a running back on a 2-3 team that has only won 6 games in the previous 2 seasons….” Yeah TJ Yeldon going off for 200+ yards and 3 TDs; that seems like something that could happen especialy since the Jags will probably try to control the time of possession game and wear down this below average Buc D…. Sure Bortles may go off, but watch out for the Jag running game….

  20. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

So you say we should defend against the run AND pass? LMFFAO!

  21. RookieBucsFan7 Says:

Here we go again with practice INTs… I hope Jamies threw all 7… It’s a process for him and the tougher this defence is in practice, the faster that process will be… He needs to be able to anticipate NFL defences, this can only help…

  22. SchlomieBarMitzvahCircumScissorStein Says:

LOL! Practice??!! Have they ever admitted to a bad week of practice? It’s ALWAYS a good week of practice but NEVER a good game if what they practice doesn’t transfer to the field….

  23. Tim S Says:

Capt Tim – Feel free to skip over my posts & keep your mouth shut as well. If you wanna love on a guy that fails to make impact plays (a single sack in the 1st quarter doesn’t count), a guy that is a self proclaimed leader of one of the worst defenses in recent memory, by all means continue your pathetic man crush. No one on this defense should be talking right now, especially when it’s to brag about a few interceptions in practice. The loser mentality on this team appears to have infected some fans as well.

  24. biff barker Says:

Alarming how all these great practices have a way of making bad teams look so much better come Sundays.

  25. lightningbuc Says:

I’m sure the picks were thrown by Kyle Brindza, since everything else up to this point has been his fault.

  26. Hawaiian Buc Says:

If Tim thinks McCoy’s sack came in the first quarter, then it’s obvious he didn’t watch the game.

  27. Tim S Says:

If Hawaiian thinks my opinions are based on 1 game then he’s sadly mistaken. I haven’t missed a game in 16 years. Good try though.

  28. Tampa Tony Says:

Bortles is going to have a MVP type day!!! Is it week 17 yet?

  29. D-Rome Says:

Jameis should say to them, “I HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR PRACTICE SQUAD PAYCHECKS!” every time he’s intercepted.

    Kidding!

  30. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I am in favor of Hawiian Bucs opinion about Practice!😀

  31. Lord Cornelius Says:

He’s already had a 2 game stretch with only 1 interception over 57 passes.

He had a 115 QB rating week 2.
8 drops keeping him from 300+ yards and 2 TDs in week 3.
    Horrible play in 1 game.

    Just the reality of it.

  32. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @TimS,

If you haven’t missed a game in 16 years, how did you forget about the Miami game on Monday night football when he got a sack on the last drive? Did you miss the New Orleans game this year where he was absolutely destroying the Saints all game long? For someone who hasn’t missed a game, you sure have some incorrect facts.

  33. Hawaiian Buc Says:

For all those wanting him to stop talking, you do realize he’s doing a radio show right? What would you expect him to do? What do you expect him to talk about? Some of you are so full of hate that you have left no room for common sense.

  34. TampaBayAllDay Says:

I have been a Buccaneers fan since the late 90’s..the Bucs need to fire lovie if this team doesn’t start winning more games..i always go for my team no matter what are record is..but im tired of always losing and never goin to the playoffs!!! Cmon Bucs im tired of seeing nothing but Ls. #Tampa Bay All Day

  35. Tim S Says:

Hawaiian – You seem to have really got your panties in a bunch. You stick with your opinion and I’ll stick with mine. McCoy is soft and mentally weak. He assumed the leadership role on defense several years and coaches again. Our defense plays soft and they collapse at the first sign of controversy. I’ll let you put the dots together.

  36. Tim S Says:

    *several years and coaches ago

  37. Pick6 Says:

i don’t think the ones square off in practice that much in the regular season

  38. Pick6 Says:

p.s. listening to the broadcast and i think i heard that gerald mccoy has something like 15 sacks in his past 18 games. that’s a pretty big impact, especially when you consider the attention he draws and how rarely the bucs have held a lead in the last 18 games

  39. Pick6 Says:

    gerald mccoy:
7.5 sacks in the last 8 games of the schiano era in 2013
8.5 sacks in 13 games played in 2014
3 sacks in 4 games this year, and at least 1 sack\fumble negated by penalty

19 sacks in his past 25 games as a defensive tackle with no pro bowl caliber help along the line, on a team that gets very few pass rushing opportunities.

yeah, the guy is a scrub.

  40. Tim S Says:

Go back and try reading my comments again. I never said he’s talentless or a scrub but that’s cute you think you can put words in my mouth. He could have 30 sacks for all I care. I’m so sick of all you fantasy driven nuts focusing on stats. Point is the man routinely disappears when the game is on the line. Majority of his production comes when it mattets least. Quote all the stats you want. Stats truly are for losers.

  41. Bucs_Sam Says:

Jamies will land in the record books for most int by a rookie. I they counted the ones he’s throwing in practice, he’t beat Farve all time….

    You practice like you play….

  42. Capt.Tim Says:

Clueless hater Trolls like Tim S make intelligent debate impossible. Like trying to talk with a crying 3 year old in the middle of the Table.

Tim s, you obviously have some personal grude against McCoy. This isnt the place for it. Its a website for men to discuss football- not to be intrupped by whiny lil bitches.
Take my advice. Go study up on football, change your post name, and try again
    And no whining this time

  43. Tim S Says:

You’re adorable. You accuse me of being the troll, the unintelligent one, and the whiner. Yet you and others are the ones constantly resorting to name calling and personal attacks on posters. Makes complete sense. I won’t be changing my name, won’t be leaving, & won’t change my opinions. If you don’t like it, as I mentioned earlier, you’re free to skip over my posts and not engage me in conversation.
