The Wrath Of Kwon
October 2nd, 2015(Yeah, Joe likes that headline.)
When the Bucs waved goodbye to all-around good dude and Ric Flair freak middle linebacker Mason Foster last year, it was largely because the Bucs wanted someone quicker to cover the deep middle, which in Lovie’s defense is the middle linebacker.
Enter Kwon Alexander. The rookie from LSU, though he struggled in his first game, he may quickly be becoming a stalwart in the linebacker corps.
Consider that Alexander has been credited with four passes defended. That’s tied for the most by an NFL linebacker with Uani Unga of the Giants.
So if the goal of the Bucs was to find a middle linebacker to defend the pass, it seems like Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht hit another draft home run, a fourth-round steal.

Kwon is definitely a keeper! In fact, our linebacker corp. might be the deepest and best unit on the whole team! Kwon, LVD, Lansannah, Bruce Carter, etc.. may turn out to be one of the top units in the NFL eventually! Now we need a complete rebuild along the O-line, and 2 pass rushing DE’s….and Koetter at HC….and we will finally have a team that can compete!

I’m convinced that Alexander will be great one day, but he (like all our rookies) has a lot of learning to do … and fast. From what I’ve seen in the first 3 games, his pass coverage is reasonably good, but he seems to get blocked too easily on runs up the gut. Size (227 lbs) may have something to do with that, but I think it’s more just learning how to shed blocks at the NFL level. Kwon certainly has the talent though, and he’ll continue to get better and better I’m sure.

Yea cause heavier players don’t get blocked… D-lines job to keep the Lbs clean.

Now if only Lavonte could stop playing like a rookie we’d be solid.
