Dilfer: “Panic” Seen In Jameis’ Feet

Before and after the NFL Draft, there might not have been a bigger backer of Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, than Trent Dilfer.
Dilfer spent time with Jameis when he was a kid, and he remains a big Jameis supporter. But the former Bucs and Super Bowl quarterback said Jameis isn’t exactly where he thought he’d be at this time.
Speaking on Ron and Ian on WDAE-AM 620 today, Dilfer explained that Jameis’ feet are inconsistent.
“A lot when you watch young quarterbacks, you’re kind of just watching their poise, their presence, the quietness of their feet,” Dilfer said. “I don’t mean their feet don’t move, but there’s not a panic in their feet. I’ve seen that with Jameis. I don’t think he’s growing as fast as I thought he would, but I do see growth.”
Again, Dilfer thought Jameis was an All-World prospect. So Joe doesn’t take this as anything more than Dilfer soaking in the reality of rookie quarterbacks. They need to adjust, adapt and develop.
Dilfer added that he sees growth in Jameis since Week 1 and he looks comfortable often.

Jamie’s looks very promising. We need to invest in our lines. We need to protect our QB and generate a pass rush from our D Line. GMC needs help on the edge.
Jamie’s would be better with better support from his defense. 19 points the last two games, ok. But, this is a Lovie Smith Defense and he harps on takeaways. Where are the takeaways? Schiano’s had a great turnover ratio in year one. It’s a shame his $9 million dollar guard contracted a career ending injury, and that his QB went swop in a contract year.
Lovie hand picked Josh McCown and cut are is for a slew of free agent flops. I don’t understand why Lovie gets such a pass from the local scribes and radio? Dude makes Schiano look like Belichick.
I want Lovie to do a good job and maintain being HC of this team, but let’s be honest. This team is a group of excuse making, admittingly quit after the first defensive play of 2015, and undeniably predictable. We have a weak pass rush, and what gives?
Lovie passed on Devin Hester last year, why? Lovie dismantled an offensive line and has yet to replace it.
Joe, if we lose convincingly this weekend, do you foresee billboard being erected in Lovie’s honor?

The 0-2 Colts with the QB that has the lowest QB rating in the league so far this season and one of the worse defenses in the league? Not sure but Tennessee did look good losing to them.

Yea i didn’t see the happy feet in that game. #3 is getting better, no doubt. Alas, I’ve grown tired of Lovie. Sadly, Shiano ran a better defense than Lovie. LVD was an absolute MONSTER. he’s a shadow of his former self and it’s not his fault. Cmon, you must feed the monster! Let him go get the qb. Damn i ain’t see my boy do the Rick Flair walk in a min! Lovie, what are you doing?

Ive been to bucs games all my life and tonight finally went to my other favorite teams game live and wow…..watching barcelona at camp nou is a million times better experience than rayjay….would be nice if we had that winning team environment sometime in near future

I have been a Winston guy since watching him beat out Jake Coker (who is currently QB for University of Alabama under Nick Saben). He is going to make this team get better. He will “Will Himself”. He is a competitor, and knows how to win. Currently the Buc’s are young, and we have a bunch of new pieces in terms of people playing position and having a rookie “Mic” linebacker. The offensive line is young. We will grow as time and games are played. The players are actually coming together and forming a “unit” on both sides of the ball. Play as ONE.

i heard the interview live, and i took it the exact opposite way. i interpreted “i’ve seen that” as being in reference to “there’s not a panic in his feet”. he was generally complementary of jameis, just acknowledging he isn’t all world and has work to do

I love listening to Dilfer and Simms. Just because they weren’t good for the Bucs, doesn’t mean they don’t know what they are talking about. Marino and Emmitt were both HOF players and the suck as analysts.

As for Jameis, I think it already has been proven (to me) that He and Glennon are pretty much a toss-up as to who is the better QB and who has more potential…. Koetter is the best OC the Bucs have had in years… and he tries to protect Winston (not a bad thing)…… I just wonder how MGB would do….. no doubt he is not more mobile than Winston (I’d say about the same)… but he seems more accurate …. and throws a “nicer” ball than Winston….. right, Joe(s) ??

Let me preface by saying (as I always have) that a head coach should get 3 years, so I think Lovie should get another year. Even though I didn’t like Schiano, I still think he should’ve gotten one more year.
If we do go with another HC next year, my first vote is for Koetter. No more defensive minded head coaches…especially when you have a young franchise QB. Keep the consistency.
No need in getting a defensive head coach when your QB is going to have to learn a new system every other year (if you’re winning) because your OC got hired away.

Watching Aaron Rodgers on a stupendous drive the other night, the commentators noted how he kept his feet moving and stated that the rookie mistake was to stop moving his feet. That movement kept Rodgers ready to shift position in the pocket or throw right away.
Just what is the difference between keeping ones feet moving while in the pocket and “happy feet?” Do you have “happy feet” when you don’t make the play? Take Dilfer’s comment with a grain of salt – I think Winston is pretty close to doing exactly what he should be doing.

As a long time Bucs fan, I get hives whenever Trent Dilfer is mentioned. I think he’s been put on TV to torture my soul for sins in a past life.
