Anerica’s Quarterback gets rave reviews from Houston coach Bill O’Brien.
Texans coach Bill O’Brien made his bones as a quarterback coach in both college and NFL circles. He’s the only guy who got Brian Hoyer to play halfway decent football with the Belicheats.
And since BOB left Penn State for Houston, heralded quarterback Christian Hackenberg has been, more often than not, a mess.
So it piqued Joe’s interest to hear BOB, after Sunday’s loss to the Texans, not just rave about America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, but BOB also claimed Jameis barked at him during the game.
“I think he’s, like I said before, I think he is a very talented guy,” BOB said of Jameis. “I think he has a great future in this league. I’m glad he is not in our division. He made some big time throws [Sunday].
“He’s a competitor. I think he was yelling at me when I threw the challenge flag late. He’s a competitor, you know. He’s a competitor. You’ve got to respect guys like that. He’s got a real good future in this league.”
What more do you need, anti-Jameis blowhards? Thank goodness the Bucs have a guy who has the internal fortitude like Jameis, a guy who is willing to burn the midnight oil to get better, and brings that passion onto the practice field.
Joe only wishes there were more players like Jameis on the roster.

Anyone who thinks Jameis is not going to be a top 10 QB is a fool, unless, of course, Lovie ruins him first. Jameis played well Sunday, he just needed his WRs to catch the damn ball AND run the proper route. Many of his throws were seriously amazing.
But Lovies D made me want to throw up! Then he claims were getting better, lmao! His year in the basement is starting to make sense to me. You know what we did in my basement in my younger days? Smoke!! No wonder all those FA signings last year made sense to Lovie! Lol
And for any of you fools that are calling for patience, how much patience is needed when a team has a losing record in 28 years of their 40 years in existence?! Joe likes to use the 30/100 benchmark, but when a team has a losing record in almost 3/4 of the years they have been around, that is totally pathetic!

Josh Freeman started out real competitive and everyone thought he would have a great future in this league too. Also I might add, everyone raved about Freeman’s intelligence and work ethic in the beginning as well. With all that said, Im not saying the two are going to have the same career trajectories but cool it with all the compliments. We get it Joe, you think he’s the next Joe Montana.

And most of us aren’t “anti Jameis blowhards”. Just sick of Joe justifying Jameis everyday for the past 9momths. I am fine with the pick. But right now he is average at best as a QB. A rookie and that is to be expected. This time next year if he hasn’t shown great strides then let the bashing or love show for our future HOF QB or future bust. To early to say one way. And yes we still have the 4th best QB in the division. I do like how Joe has forgot to add that to every post like he did last year.

Winston’s effort might be elite but his stats are at the bottom of the NFL, especially completion percentage and QB rating. The fans who have their eyes open will not be silenced. Until Winston regularly completes 60% of his passes, has a QB rating in the top half of the league and starts to win some games against decent competition we have a right to question his performance. Hope doesn’t trump reality. Period.

Jameis is doing just fine. A little beyond my expectations given only two years of college ball, two rookies on the line, learning the pro game, etc.
Mariota is doing very well too.
The flashes of greatness are there. And he is just scratching the surface.

@joe. You really need to give it a rest. I like Jameis. He had some big time throws and should be a stud for a long time. But we also got a guy who had some potential baggage and passed on a humble very fast and very accurate qb. So there is naturally going to be a lot of comparisons. I like your site but you need to give it a break. I hear enough BS propaganda in the regular news. And let’s be real joe. You’ve said a lot of things over the past few years where you have ate a lot of crow. With that being said… I am more excited after watching some of Jameis’s throws last Sunday.

I only wish that Mr. Winston brings his Passion to “burn the midnight oil” to be better on the game field on Sunday. Real difficult to be a “believer” of the “Messiah” if he in not walking on water with a Win, not a Loss…..
I watched the game on Sunday and I watched some balls hit the WR in the hands only to be dropped, also saw some passes the WR had no chance of catching. Consistency is needed. Along with a running game that is working.

Fartman didn’t take into account all the sacks Mariota took in week 2 or the fumbles in general; and how week 1’s surprise Oregon offense racked up the majority of those good stats (50% of all his TDs) in a lopsided freakshow 1st half where most any collegiate QB could have made those TD throws. Or how his stats against Cleveland only seem to come after they were down a ton in the 2nd half.
I’m also sure he didn’t take into account the not playing well with the game on the line late last week against a much worse defense than Houston. Or all the dropped passes for Winston vs Houston.
Stats are dumb. So is comparing rookie QBs after 3 games

Okay, let’s get an honest accounting here. How many of you in the howling masses actually have a clue as to how the game of football really works? By reading the comments here I would say very few!
Let me enlighten your peewee brains!
1) a single player does not make a ‘team’. There are players on a team that can change a game for the good or the bad, but there are 11 players on the field for each team and each MUST play their part in order to win the game!
2) FYI the player who actually has the LEAST chance of SINGULARLY affecting the outcome of a game is the QUARTERBACK! The center must snap the ball accurately. The receivers must RUN THEIR ROUTES CORRECTLY and in a timely fashion. Receivers must also CATCH THE BALL! The offensive line must contain the opposite team’s defensive players for sufficient time to allow the QB to either hand off the football for a running play, throw the ball to a receiver or find an open lane an run the ball themselves. For a pocket passer QB, that’s usually the last decision other than throwing the ball away. Without all those other players doing what they are supposed to do, THE QUARTERBACK CAN DO NOTHING!!!!!
3) On the other hand, the player with the greatest opportunity to positively effect the outcome of a game is the Kicker (field goals & PATS). While they do depend on a good long snapper and holder for field goals, they are not allowed to be hit. They must simply be good at what they are being paid to do – being able to accurately kick the ball through the uprights from a long (or relatively short, distance away).
4) On the defensive side of the game players are required to be fast enough, strong enough and observant enough to achieve the following enough times to prevent multiple scoring. Pressure the opposing team’s QB into at least making a bad throw/handoff & at best sacking him, seeing & shutting down the open areas to avoid the run, and covering the receivers to either tip the ball away, make a fast tackle should the ball be caught or, hopefully, make the catch themselves.
5) All of the above needs to happen within the rules of the game to avoid penalties that would negate any positive actions that have happened.
Now, what all that means for all you without the capacity for clear thinking, is that Bucs QB, Jamies Winston, CANNOT WIN THE GAME BY HIMSELF!! Even if the offensive line gave him (and the receivers) all the time they needed to get to where they were supposed to be and to throw the ball without being pressured, if the receivers aren’t where they are supposed to be, don’t catch the ball that is thrown right to them or make a decent effort to catch a ball that might not be perfectly thrown but is catchable, THERE IS NOTHING JAMEIS (or any other quarterback) CAN DO!!! He cannot go and catch the ball for them. He can’t run their routes correctly for them.
While it’s true that not every throw by Winston was perfect more of them were than were not! Winston, by account of almost any expert of football quarterbacks, is excellent at throwing the ‘anticipation ball’. He throws the ball in advance to where the receiver is SUPPOSED TO BE! When that’s what the play calls for, if the receiver doesn’t get to where he’s supposed to be, Winston can’t magically redirect the ball! If Winston had to wait for his receivers to be in place before throwing the ball, 1) it’s likely the offensive line couldn’t hold back the defensive that long and 2) the receiver can’t just stand in place and wait for the ball to get to them without having multiple defensive players surrounding him. How do you morons NOT understand that?! You scream and moan about Winston not getting the ball out of hands quick enough but never consider that it’s not just about throwing the ball. If he’s waiting, it’s to find AN OPEN PLAYER! It’s not that he isn’t capable of getting the ball out of his hand but he’s also making decisions about how quickly a specific player will be able to get to specific spot and how fast that ball needs to be thrown to get to that spot or if any player is even going to be able to get open to thrown the ball to!
That you idiots moaning and groaning about how terrible Winston is never even consider all the thoughts and decisions that have to be made in microseconds just shows how little you really understand the game!
The Bucs game against Houston was by no means perfect but had more of the receivers correctly run their routes, or even 2 or 3 of those ridiculous drops been caught, or even a couple of the stupid penalties not been given/committed, or had the defensive been able to hold even a few more plays, OR had the kicker made even 3 of his field goals and the extra point, then this game would have had a very different outcome.
Jameis wasn’t perfect but then no QB from ANY NFL team in history has ever been perfect (including the man who gives so many of you wet dreams – Mariota). This game wasn’t lost by Jameis Winston and it couldn’t be won by him alone. Just like Mariota didn’t lose his game by himself and he couldn’t have (and btw, didn’t) win it so. You can’t compare QB performances without looking at what the rest of their team is doing and what each opposing team is doing. At least TRY to be honest in your criticism and not simply make up things to suit your fanboy dreams.
