“Wasted” And “Pressing”
September 28th, 2015How bout those self-beating Buccaneers?
Former Tampa Bay quarterback Shaun King is convinced the team will be kicking itself today.
“They’re going to be disappointed that they wasted the offensive line’s best game of the year,” King said on Ronnie and TKras this morning on WDAE-AM 620.
Tim Jennings not covering DeAndre Hopkins on the Texans’ first touchdown was among the various errors King said led to the Bucs’ demise. King’s broader point was that the Bucs beat themselves much more than Houston beat them.
“I don’t know what they were doing on the first slant touchdown to DeAndre Hopkins,” King said. “That was way too easy. If there’s one person you’ve got to cover in the red zone for the Texans, it’s DeAndre Hopkins. It didn’t look they were prepared for the snap. It didn’t look like the safety recognized it was Hopkins. It just felt like they didn’t have a clue. And they’re veterans. And that shouldn’t happen.”
King, one of three quarterbacks to lead the Bucs to the NFC Championship game, said Mike Evans dropped at least four balls he should caught, and Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, started pressing after the many drops. It led to poor “ball location,” King said, usually a strength of Jameis.

Can’t argue with King on this one. But with every single aspect of the Bucs play suspect in Houston: bad special teams, poor time of possession, 1 for 12 in 3rd down conversions, penalties, drops, no running games, etc; it is kind of hard to criticize anything negative being ventured about the bucs on this Monday. Maybe a couple silver linings that Joe pointed out like Marpet’s decent game and the fact that jameis did not get sacked can be mentioned but overall this was a game where a lot of the coaches would just burn the game film in front of their players and a lot of front offices would be trying kickers out today after Brindza’s epic gag job yesterday (the Bucs are not good enough to have a yippy kicker who suddenly loses his confidence even if he probably can nail a 65 yarder)…. Just a bad effort and a winnable game tossed down the toilet just like several of the losses from last season…. Lovie promised progress; we saw some in New Orleans and we saw regression yesterday in a lot of the facets of the game…. Hope they get it together for cam and the Panthers….

The TD to Hopkins looked too dam easy to me as well. But after seeing the replay it showed the CB playing man on Hopkins. He just got shook at the line of scrimmage and got beat.

@ Rice it look like Jennings was playing outside leverage and he was supposed to get help from the inside. Guess what, no one was there. In this defense our guys can’t freestyle, they must cover there responsibilities first. There are just too many underneath defenders lost in space. Its a combination of poor coaching and selfish players trying to make the splash play before making the routine play.

@RJ
Maybe you’re right man. I would like to think he was playing man, because if he was playing outside leverage then someone really FUKD up. Because after Hopkins cut in no one was there. I honestly thought I saw Jennings kind of slip when Hopkins made the move on him.

After watching again he just got plain beat. Doesn’t look like outside leverage to me.

Overall bad effort from all except the offensive line, big ups to them. They should only get better every week. Tim Jennings doesn’t look any better than Verner, not very happy with either of them. Jameis had an uneven performance, bad on third downs, he will be just fine going forward. The defense worries more than anything, we need a lot of help on that side of the ball. My guess, this upcoming draft will be defense heavy. I hope!

Rice, Just saw the replay it was bad coverage on Jennings. How can you play press coverage and don’t get a hand on the receiver. But the refs would have called a flag if he did. Our team just need to play better. That game was “too” winnable.

I think the first TD is the ones where Jennings didnt even move and allowed Hopkins the inside slant. Was just ugly.

@RJ
Agree 100%. The win was served up on a plate for them. It was actually harder to lose that game than to win it. I also agree with the officials getting laundry happy on the team.

That was an unfair match up out the gate…
Jennings is too short to be guarding Hopkins in the end zone!

yeah the oline played lights out..GO BUCS!!!

Undisciplined and unmotivated.
This defense should be ashamed of itself. As hard as I’ve been on Lovie, I had expectations that this defense would be at least above average, given the slew of veterans and the time they’ve all spent in the scheme. But instead they got worked over by one of the worst offensive lines in the league – there’s no excuse.

And what about all the 12 man on the field issues? Geez

Usually don’t agree with Shaun “Krispy Kreme” King, but this time he’s spot on.
