Big Dog: Tough Task For Bucs
September 25th, 2015As one can imagine, Joe’s good friend, “The Big Dog,” Steve Duemig of WDAE-AM 620, has interesting thoughts about the Bucs traveling to Houston for the third game of the season.
In short, which Bucs defense will show up? If the Bucs are anything close to the defense that tore up Drew Brees last week, they should have a field day because Houston’s offensive line is decimated by injuries, Duemig said.
That doesn’t mean the game will be easy.
“Can the Bucs win? Of course,” Duemig said. “You have to go a long way to beat Houston in their house.”
Duemig cited two factors working against the Bucs: The first is a Houston would see them kiss goodbye any hopes of the playoffs. They will be playing for their postseason lives. Second, Duemig believes just about everyone on the planet is underestimating Ryan Mallett, who was schooled under Bill Belicheat.

If Jameis doesn’t learn how to put down the doughnuts……..he’ll be looking like the Big Dog really soon

Plus Houston has 3 excellent CB’s and the Bucs are missing ASJ with Mike Evans still hobbled. Their defense WITHOUT A DOUBT will pressure Winston consistently in this game and thus far this season he hasn’t shown he can perform well under pressure. You’ll probably be able to count on one hand the number of times he gets a clean pocket in this game.
On the other hand I expect our defense to also play well and hold Houston to a relatively low score. It looks like this game will come down to which offense can actually score a couple TD’s and a couple FG’s, and to which defense has the most juice left in the 4th quarter to hang on for the win.
I’ll say 20-17 Houston because they’re at home and they’re super desperate not to go down 0-3 on the season. I think Winston gets banged around but looks better in the end than he did against the Titans, and I see our defense being totally gassed by mid-4th quarter again and barely hanging on.

Major concern for me is the 3-4 D that Houston runs. Everything else will work itself out. We have film of Houston’s offense (unlike the Titans game) so our D should be better prepared. However, we’ve played 2 teams so far that ran a 3-4 D: Cleveland in the preseason (absolute debacle) and Tennessee (worse debacle).
I don’t hear much talk of this on the radio and wonder why. Thoughts?

I just hope that Winston doesn’t get hurt.

74. Maybe the radio is not talking about it, but Joe has written about it several times.

He also thinks this is the Texans home opener…
For someone who does his “research” he missed one glaring thing..the schedule!!!

Why would their playoff hopes be crushed, look at their division: Jax 1-1, Titans 1-1, Colts 0-2, Texans 0-2. They should be hungry, but the Bucs better be hungry, they still have a lot of doubters, though they say it doesn’t matter outside the locker room, but if they want fans to return. They can win with a good running game and that freakin kicker we got. Let’s go Bucs, Jaboo wins

If Houston loses and colts beat Tennessee (as expected) and the jags lose to patriots (as expected), Houston would be 0-3 and 1 game out of 1st. The reason they are saving Arian foster is because of the division games coming up.

Injuries. Injuries. Injuries.
This is the game where there is the biggest rick for them.
Going to be fought in the trenches for this one.

Rarely do 0-3 teams rally to make the playoffs. It is pretty much a death knell for a team.
Sure, the Texans could still make the playoffs, but the odds are staggering against that happening.

@JOE
FUK the odds! The odds have been against the YUCS for a long a$$ time and for good reason. Let’s defy the MF odds. THE MESSIAH is in the house now. No reason they can’t start lighting MF up this season. If the defense is consistent and aggressive as it was last Sunday then this team will be in the hunt every week. Oh! And FUK Clown-ey!

can’t hear it?

@rayrice..I love that comment..f the odds and f clowney…I think a lot of people are underestimating the effect of an early season win for a team that went 2-14…this is the type of game that the bucs thrive in..a defensive slug fest…the teams that scare me are the ones that put up points in a hurry…it will be a good game…Texans don’t want to go 0-3 and the bucs are trying to prove something by going 2-1 since idk when…STREAKKK!!!….GO BUCS!!!

I think he was referring to the Texans.

Joe is right. Only 3 teams in NFL history who started 0-3, went on to the payoffs. Kiss of death. I hope the Texans and JJ are not aware of this? JK

I’m tired of Steve D negative and bully persona on air – I’m not giving his show anymore plugs.
I don’t mean any disrepect but the tough guy on air and negative spin is tired.

It amazes me to no end that this guy still has a radio show in this town. We are a major market and should aspire to do better. He is a clown.

I had to enlarge that pic, at first I thought I was looking at the reincarnation of Mama Cass standing with Winston.

This is going to be a very good game. The Texans know they cannot go 0-3 this early. They will play exceptionally good on Defense. is it winnable for our Bucs? Of course BUTT……Our offense has got to be sharp and Jamis will have to be very smart and not panic. JJ Watt is a beast..as we shall see. But he alone cannot do it. If our Defense can get pressure and make mallet throw early, we will get turnovers. Don’t believe this kid Mallet is that bad, He can make throws.
