Brooks Says “Scarring” Coming For Jameis

Iconic Derrick Brooks weighed in on many things Bucs yesterday during the kickoff to his annual Tampa-2 show with Steve Duemig on WDAE-AM 620.
Brooks talked about his interaction with Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, and how Jameis has and will evolve as a professional.
First, Brooks make it clear that his time is limited for Jameis, and fans shouldn’t think Brooks could counsel Jameis regularly. Brooks runs the Tampa Bay Storm, works as an NFL appeals officer, and has a rich family life, plus charity and business interests.
However, Brooks praised Jameis for seeking him out and being responsive to guidance. “Yes, we do talk. Yes, I try to help him whenever possible. The young man has done a great job keeping that communication going,” Brooks said of Jameis.
No. 55 also told Duemig that he understands how media will focus attention on Jameis’ behavior — questionable in the past and stellar this year — but it must all be kept in perspective.
There’s more painful evolution ahead.
“Just realize, [Jameis] was being like all of us,” Brooks said. “He was being like all of us. He’s going to go through, and I’m going to use the word ‘scarring,’ of what it’s like to be a rookie, be the No. 1 pick, play quarterback, play on an NFL team, and one day maybe evolve into a leader. But it’s a whole process to go through all that.”
Brooks emphasized the step-by-step process of Jameis becoming a professional and potentially a team leader. “We talked about that from Day 1 that he announced [for draft],” Brooks said, praising Jameis for success working in that manner, focusing on his craft and daily responsibilities. Brooks hopes Jameis’ play will translate into him taking the potential leadership steps that would come after that.
Joe agrees with Brooks, but Joe’s not sure the state of the Bucs will nurture the patience Brooks is calling for. A win Sunday sure would go a long way.

So many antagonist always trying to read into things on this site.
In a nutshell- JW is a rookie and things will take time.
The kid is a natural leader but is also a rookie.

America’s Quarterback is going to struggle like any other rookie QB, but he is an instant upgrade over Glennon and McCown. I don’t know about you guys but……

JW needs to hit the gym in the off season and work on those chicken wing arms and skinny chicken legs!! Also do some boxing, road work and jump rope to work on his feet.

It’s not impossible for JW to have an Andrew Luck like season and we win 11.
The odds are against it but it’s actually ok to dream. What the mind conceives the body achieves.
At least I know JW has his head screwed on straight and while perhaps ready to take his lumps he hasn’t waved the freaking white flag before the season even starts!!!
Alex Smith? Is he a world beater…can JW perhaps match him. Probably not even though Smith was a scrub until Reid resurrected is career in KC he did have some experience and some talent..again though 2-14 to 11-5! All I am saying it that it has been done twice in recent history and so it COULD happen again.
I’m not saying 11 just 10. I believe we have 8-8 talent and an incredibly soft schedule with one brutal three game stretch in the middle. Pat Yasinkas went game by game and comes up with 8-8. That is reasonable IMHO.
Barring injuries or some catostophe if we don’t at least reach six this year then I’m off the Lovie bandwagon. Until we lose 11 though I’m going to continue supporting a coach with credentials who is widely respected throughout the league.

A lot of people forget that Brooks took illegal merchandise in the Foot Locker deal at FSU. But he was able to mature and turn into one of the greatest Bucs ever. Let’s hope the same is true for Winston.

The best part of the whole show was at the beginning. DB #55 apologized for having too much faith in lovie and thinking that the team was better than it was!!!!
And also, Maybe it there was a QB competition and Winston won it, then he would have deserved the team captain vote!!!

I’m a bit nervous because it looks like Mariota might be more pro-ready and polished. Maybe it’s bcuz of our crappy Oline… Either way, I support Jameis and the Bucs no matter what, so I have my fingers crossed and I’m hoping for the best.

Crazy to put so much emphasis on Game 1
Does anyone remember Luck, Manning, Brees, Rodgers first game??
Also Ryan Leak won his first 2 games and we know the rest.
This is marathon, not a Game 1 sprint.
