Trading Glennon, “That’s Your Goal.”

September 8th, 2015

Winston Glennon

The newest Bucs quarterback is evidence Saints head coach Sean Payton had a traumatic brain injury, says a former Buccaneer.

That’s the word from Shaun King, one of three quarterbacks to lead Tampa Bay to the NFC Championship game.

King joined Ronnie and TKras on WDAE-AM 620 this morning and explained that the Bucs putting a third quarterback on the 53-man roster, via the weekend waiver claim of Ryan Griffin, is a good thing for Tampa Bay and a head-scratcher for New Orleans.

“I think Sean Payton should join the concussion lawsuit. Anytime you keep Luke McCown over a young player with Ryan Griffin’s ability and [film], I think you need to have your head examined,” King said.

“Having said that, I think Ryan is a young player with a lot of potential. I watched him at Tulane. Never really was surrounded with great personnel, but continued to get better. If you go and look at his performances in the preseason the last two years for New Orleans, he played extremely well. So I’m glad that he’s here.

“I think he’s someone, you know, that if he continues to develop, will make it so that Mike Glennon could be a trade piece moving forward. Maybe acquiring an offensive lineman or a pass rusher in exchange for Mike Glennon. So I think ultimately, if you’re the Bucs, that’s your goal. Try and get something of value for Glennon before he hits the free agent market.”

Of course, Joe agrees with the goal of trading Glennon. Joe’s written about it multiple times.

Nothing great will come of Glennon playing out his contract and moving on for the 2017 season. If Glennon could fetch a solid young player, one that actually plays regularly, or, for example, two fourth-round draft picks, then make the deal.

Don’t know if Shaun is right about Griffin….but, Joe & Shaun are right about trading Glennon….be patient.

“Shaun King, one of two Buc Quarterbacks that lost a NFC Championship Game when his defense gave up 9 points.”

  2. ChanEpic Says:

Could not have said it better. Glennon has value I just hope Mr. Licht can realize his value before too long. Would LOVE to get a good, young but proven OL player to compliment our draft picks.

  3. Ray Rice Says:

Professor Klump licked BALLZ! Garbage QB.

  4. mike Says:

I think i will trust Sean peyton’s opinion over kings. I like glennon as a back up but his trade value is lower today than it was in april and will be lower before the trade deadline.

  5. BucsFan85 Says:

I’m kinda on the fence as far as trading Glennon. Now, if Griffin can show he can be a competent backup, then maybe so. I haven’t seen enough of his play to make that evaluation yet. This being said, I knew from the time I heard that we got Griffin that I would be hearing Shaun King’s biased opinion being the pride of Tulane. Don’t get me wrong still think he played well for us, just can’t say that I agree with all of his opinions.

  6. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I think even the MGM realizes that Glennon has one year at the most left in Tampa. I too am for trading him,

But let’s be like “The Donald” eh and get the very best deal available. I do not think MG8 is worth a starting OL or DE at this point. He is valuable to us because he and Koetter can win some games if JW goes down.

I know a broken record but we need to trade him at the right time to maximize his value. If a team like Arizona has Palmer go down again they might cough up something ridiculous…but there will be enough teams at the end of the year with QB questions that we can use MG8 to add to our first round pick and make a play for Bosa. Best of all worlds! We get Bosa and we have backup security for 2015 for $650,000.

  7. Bucs53 Says:

With the current state of our Oline it makes absolutely no sense to trade the only QB with experience. If Jameis continues to take hits like he has he is bound to miss some time, and bringing in a QB to the game who doesn’t even know the system is a mistake.

If we were talking about a QB who had worked with our OC before that would be one thing, but Griffin hasn’t…

  8. Stanglassman Says:

Isn’t Grayson the one who beat out Griffin? I think they are keeping McCown for the same thing we are with Glennon. McCown is their 2nd string QB until the 3rd learns the system well enough and if another team’s QB goes down and they get may get a player or 4th rouder.

  9. tdtb2015 Says:

    trade Baby! Trade!!!!

Go Lich! You are rocking and rolling

  10. ChanEpic Says:

I’ve been on board with 2 things:

    1. Keep Glennon as a back up but;
    2. If the right trade can be had, do it.

The Devil’s , as always, are in the details.

That said, is Griffin THAT much better and better paid than Tebow? I would love to trade away Glennon keep Griffin and (somehow) get Tebow on the roster. His character AND experience seem to be an asset for Mr. Winston and the locker room in general. Mr. Winston goes down, I would have NO problem with Tebow stepping in, sometimes Glennon scares me.

  11. Pierce Says:

I like him as a back up. We gave him a shot last year (which I wanted), but he proved to be a better back-up than starter. I’d like to keep him in case Winston gets hurt (please don’t get hurt, pretty please!)

  12. THETRUTH Says:

I dont trusts many moves these guys make, we will probably trade him for another bust, lazy , knee problem player. almost 85% of their moves have not worked out and how many draft picks are here from last year, their fist draft

  13. Dave Says:

    Mike

Glendon’s trade value is only increasing. The next 3 weeks it will increase even more as some QBs go down.
I think Licht will end up with a decent OL and a 3rd rounder for him.

  14. Tom S. Says:

Joe is aware that Glennon is under contract through 2016 right? If you get blown away with an offer, by all means let the baby giraffe run free. However, he’s great insurance this year if Winston goes down with an injury and can/will still be traded next offseason with his final year remaining on his rookie deal.

Why trade away a guy that can keep your team in games this year if you can fetch the same price for him next summer?

  15. The Other Side of the Coin Says:

No way Glennon gets traded for at least a month. Time is needed for Griffen to learn the system and become a decent backup.

  16. Stanglassman Says:

THETRUTH is 5/6 player are on the Bucs from there Lovie/Licht first draft.

Herron is the only one who isn’t.

  17. Lakeland Buc Says:

Shaun King is right, Luke McCown was trash for us. Nine starts in nine years, why do you hang on to a QB like that? Ryan Griffin has performed well during the preseason. If anyone knows him, it’s Shaun King. They both were QBs at Tulane, this is a good pickup by Jason Licht. He is building this team, Lovie is just the Head Coach. I really believe that Ryan Griffin will be a good QB for us.

  18. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

“That’s the word from Shaun King…”

    Stopped reading here.

  19. Buccfan37 Says:

I don’t have a clue what the Bucs plans are for Glennon. Trade him, replace him with Griffin, keep him this year, who knows? Do you hang on to him too long and his value falls or wait for a desperate team who thinks highly of him? His future is truly a mystery to me. Whatever happens I’m sure the fans will be the last to know. It’s a secret you know. When Licht said he is on the team, I felt he meant he is on the block.

  20. mike Says:

    Dave
I’m sorry you are dreaming. A good OL and a 3rd rounder. We won’t be able to get either and you think we can get both…
Glennon needs to be in someones program for their training camp ect to be valuable. we might get a 5th round pick maximum. And the reason I franchise is bad is because we can’t find players in the late rounds.

  21. Carl's Toe Says:

Cannon’s stock is going down! Shaun King has a luxury table at Burger King!

  22. Dave Says:

    Mike

I disagree. The NFL network and the talking heads at ESPN all say he is the best backup /potential starter out there and they a lot of teams have interest.
I don’t know what they will get, but I don’t think they will settle for less than a 3rd.
Unfortunately they need OL and DE and both positions are in high demand so not many teams have anything to give up.
I just think they will get an OL thrown in. Maybe someone with a little experience.

I am positive they trade him by October though.

  23. drdneast Says:

LOL. King should just keep stuffing Big Macs in his hole rather than trying to speak intelligently with it.
No team is going to trade a starting OL or a proven edge rusher for a backup QB which is what Glennon is.
Joe thinks he is to untill he wants to trade him like he’s a winning starter.

  24. Yungry Says:

Tulane quarterbacks suck, especially if named Shaun…

  25. BucFan20 Says:

Glennon will be in by the 5th game if not before.

  26. ander Says:

getting rid of glennon while winston’s ankle hasnt even healed all the way, we dont even know what to expect from winston and you guys already want to trade glennon. smhhh
