Updates On Knee Injuries
September 3rd, 2015Per the fingers of Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune, Bucs coach Lovie Smith addressed the injuries suffered by defensive end Larry English and right guard Garrett Gilkey this evening in the final worthless preseason game of the year.
Per Cummings, Lovie said after the game that both injuries were “significant.”
Now, of course, the Bucs will have to wait until MRIs are performed tomorrow, but when Lovie addresses the pen and mic club in his day-after presser, it sounds as if Lovie is going to announce both English and Gilkey will be out for the year.

isn’t it a ‘presser’?

When Lovie’s on the hot seat it’s called a pressure.

I’m telling everyone, there will be some surprising cuts Saturday. We will probably cut some vets, who people think is a lock.

We were so close to missing the injury bug this year. Not that Gilkey is a big deal but damn, the defensive end position is gonna be turrible this year. We were already weak there. Definitely going to be bringing in some waiver fodder from other teams.

I hate blown knees that just sucks for the players. But from a purely analytical view we actually had a GREAT preseason when it comes to injuries.
Now if Fameis and Smith’s ankles heal and ME’s hammy is ok and Jack Smith’s shoulder can mend we’re actually in pretty good shape.

English going down really hurts

These injuries are more significant than you people think. This team isn’t exactly chock full of talent at depth. From a football point of view, Glkey’s injury isn’t as detrimental to the team as much as English’s is.

Love Tandy’s play tonight. Everybody’s obviously talking about his 3 takeaways, but how bout that block on Greene’s interception return? Love that whole play.

Who did the Bucs cut to sign Jennings?
I think out of the 700 players to be waived this week the bucs will find someone to replace English and a few interior OL-mn.
Lakeland- I’d like to hear your predictions on the cuts especially the surprise cuts to the lock vets.
My biggest fear going into tonight’s game was that somehow Humphreys wouldn’t get the opportunity to show enough to make the team and he would burn us twice a year playing for the Panthers for the next ten seasons. That said I’d still like to see Hall make the P.S.

Won’t have to. Sounds like two guys going on IR.
Besides, plenty of cuts have to be made by Saturday at 4 p.m.

I’m going to say it’s going to be OK regardless.
Those hits to Gilkey and English did not look like heavy impact. I’m going to remain optimistic, until I hear about imaging that proves otherwise.
Worst case though, we go and get a vet or other free agent like Dwight Freeny or Lance Briggs.
We pulled Michael Bennett and D Penn off waivers, lets see what we can do with the first priority.
Our guys we lost are integral, but they weren’t cornerstones. I’m not that concerned.

Thanks Joe. I thought they signed him prior to the start of the game and had to release someone.

Said cuts better not include Humphries otherwise I’ll be having to hit the bottle before our season opener even starts.

An injury to DE is the kiss of death for the defensive line. We’re loaded with talent they “say” can play inside and out…in reality, what I have seen is a lot of defensive tackles that look like they’re playing out of position at end…I think the few times I’ve seen Gohlston play well this preseason – he was playing inside.
Heading into yet another season with virtually NOTHING at RDE…is just mind-boggling…having an offensive lineman (at ANY position) go down just prior to the season is like firing your offensive coordinator prior to the 1st game of the season…twice.
Almost unbelievable.

The “block” on English was a cheap shot. That TE could have taken him with a normal block but he went right for his knees.

If you would have proposed before OTAs that we would lose a backup DE, bubble Olineman & Leonard Johnson to injury…..that would have been widely celebrated….now….the sky is falling
Other than Dotson, and he was replaced with a capable veteran and Dotson will be back mid season…..we have lost no starters…..I am thankful.

Guys lets not over react. If English was with anyone of the 31 other teams in the league he would be cut later this week. We should be able to pick up a scrub DE just like him when Tims cut guys to. Get down to 53.

So…last night was the first Defensive injury, right? Larry English?
It’s going to start a trend.
I hope we find some OL and DL on the waiver/FA over the next few days.
Really, everywhere else we’re set well enough, thanks to Kwon showing up.
