Team Glazer Labeled “Irrelevant” To NFL Politics

September 3rd, 2015
The Washington Post weighs in.

The Washington Post weighs in.

As various nonsense continues to envelop NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, the Washington Post decided to study the inner workings of Goodell’s relationship with team owners.

Eleven owners were labeled “irrelevant,” and Team Glazer was in the bunch.

The group of alleged irrelevant owners was defined as follows: “Disengaged or defiant, these owners are seen as prominent individuals the league office must manage — and keep happy — but for a variety of reasons are not involved in shaping NFL policy.” Team Glazer specifically was described as having “little to no interest in league politics.”

Joe really doesn’t care about NFL politics, except how they potentially relate to teams getting abused by suspensions and officials. Joe’s not saying referees are corrupt, but they are human and might be less prone to hose a team that lives in Goodell’s buttocks.

Joe’s brain is going right to the ludicrous end zone call against Kellen Winslow versus the Lions in Tampa back in 2010. If Tampa Bay wins that game, then they’re in the playoffs. Joe’s also thinking about Dashon Goldson being targeted relentlessly in 2013.

Politics also comes in handy when your town is trying to secure a Super Bowl.

Team Glazer does not engage in petty public silliness and ego-driven chest pounding. But that surely doesn’t make an owner irrelevant. What really goes on behind the NFL scenes is a mystery. Just ask the Redskins general manager.

Let’s hope Jason Licht’s wife doesn’t use her twitter fingers to trash BSPN reporters like the Redskins’ GM’s wife….

This is one “irrelevant” list I’m glad the Glazers are on…..

  2. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

There’s a reason Rich McKay sticks around in Atlanta. It’s not a bad thing to have team reps on some of those committees.

  3. Tom Edrington Says:

Bet here is the boys pay a lot more attention to the goings-on surrounding Man-U

  4. The Buc Realist Says:

Joe is doing revisionist history again!!! K2 was on one bad leg and pushing everyone within 5 yards during the whole game like someone yelled “FIRE” at George Costanza!!!!

P.S it is like the Glazers have another team an care more about that!!!!

  5. mac Says:

The pusification of the great game of football will one day lead to its demise… It will soon be flag football and we won’t keep score anymore because losing would hurt someone’s feelings and could lead to emotional damage…

Anyways… Its obvious concussions are bad and while playing a contact sport concussions will happen regularly… Players should not be allowed to sue for any damages they receive while playing a violent and dangerous game like football… Especially the ones who have made good money while playing…

  6. mac Says:

And the Glazers are clueless fools…

    Hiring Mark Dominik – DUMB
Hiring Rah Rah Morris – DUMB
    Hiring Greg Schiano – DUMB
    Hiring Lovie Smith – DUMB

When Malcolm passed the three stooges took over… The blame for our 30-70 record is completely on the Glazer clowns and their total mismanagement of this franchise…

    BOO!!!!

  7. BigMacAttack Says:

Really got hosed on the K2 call. Thanks for reminding me Joe. The call that literally changed the Bucs’ future.

  8. Buccfan37 Says:

The league only cares about increasing profits like any corporation. The owners, coaches and players care about the same thing. With the income train at all time highs. putting together a solid competitive team seems to have taken a back seat in importance. Not much pride in the whole lot of players. Why go all out and risk further income?

  9. Tom Edrington Says:

Actually, the headline of this post should read:

    Glazers’ Team Irrelevant In NFL

  10. Joe Cool Says:

Number 1 pick and we are irrelevant? ^^^^

  11. Tampa Tony Says:

Win some games and they will be relevant

  12. Buccfan37 Says:

WTF! Brady suspension thrown out by judge, show’s what high priced lawyers can accomplish. The deflated footballs could also be carried easier running to not be popped out and stripped. Bend over backwards for Brady and the Pats. How about reinstating these players missing games for smoking a joint. The deflation issue impacted the games much more. I hate Brady and the Pats that much more.

  13. Howard Cosell Says:

    Yeah. Mark Cuban was right.

  14. CL Bucs Says:

Team Glazer needs to sell the team to somebody who is a competent owner and actually passionate about the game of football. We all know Team GLazer mostly just cares about their precious club soccer team.

Call me crazy Joe but I like the idea of having an aggressive and eccentric owner. As a disciple of business, the one thing I’ve learned is true in any company/franchise/team/whatever is that the tone starts at the TOP.

  15. mike10 Says:

Malcolm used to dap players on their way on and off the field. They always say it starts at the top. You can’t tell me that this team’s demise doesn’t have to do with MG (not Glennon) being less involved the past 10 years.

I really don’t think the Glazer’s are true “fans” of the Bucs… and I’m not talking about a vested interest

  16. Justin Says:

They’re 100% irrelevant in the eyes of the other owners. They’re too busy worrying about Man U to care what goes on in the NFL political landscape.I’d kill for ownership like the Giants or Steelers, revered NFL families.

  17. mike10 Says:

dam mac, laying down the law – that’s the first time i’ve seen “pussification” actually spelt out

  18. Leonard Scarnesi Says:

I think it is great that the Buc’s owners are viewed as being irrelevant in League politics. Too bad it isn’t true. And, congratulations to JOE for being consistent and coming up with a truly goofy slant on the subject. Your “Dean” of Tampa Bay sportscasters will be proud of you JOE.

  19. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Guys….life is cyclical. It’s full of ups and downs and changes.

The Glazers went through a horrid period with ManU where they leveraged themselves to the hilt right before an economic meltdown. It was the worst for Buc fans and I was with the sentiment cursing our misfortune at having them as owners. But really who here wouldn’t have done the same thing? They went from millionaires to Billionaires and now ALL of Malcolm’s progeny are set for life.
It sucked for the Bucs but it WAS the smart play. This is a business!!!

The cycle moves on…Glazers are now set at ManU and since most of them live in the USA with some here in Florida I gotta believe that whatever “fandom” they permit themselves to feel beyond business is now directed at the Bucs.

The Glazers have now started spending again. They drafted a controversial QB #1 gambling the next five years of the franchise.

This management is currently doing things right. We can all remained peoed that the Glazers cemented their family fortune with an incredibly bold and successful business move with ManU or we can get over ourselves and be thankful those days are gone.

    GO BUCS!

  20. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

This goes way deeper than the Glazers are so honorable they don’t get involved in NFL politics. Being engaged, involved, and interested open doors, widens contacts, provides network opportunities for meeting qualified, smart, influential people. This is more evidence that the Glazer boys are clueless and need to being someone in who can do the job they refuse to do. We should be pissed not covering or making excuses for them. This is very bad news.

  21. Bucamania Says:

No surprise that the list of IRRELEVANT OWNERS features the NFL’s perrenial losers.

  22. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Jeebus guys what ever happened to scoreboard? The NFL’s perennial losers?

In the slightly more than a decade since WE WON A SUPER BOWL…only EIGHT other teams have won a Super Bowl.

What about the Bengals..Lions..well the list of teams that haven’t EVER won is long.

We had a great run with that Dungy/Gruden team. How soon we forget

OK so what have you done for me lately. I get that. We had a bad break that the Glazers decided to cement their family fortune at the expense of the Bucs.
That sucked and I too screamed about it.

But now ManU is a cash cow and may actually be helping to free up these $$$ the Glazer boys have finally cut loose.

The number of owners who are legitimate fans is a small group. In the NFL Jerry Jones…Jerry Richardson a former player in Carolina…and best of all Green Bay which is the socialist paradise model for sports…the freaking fans own the team. Awesome baby.

The ONLY truly great owner this market has ever seen is Jeff Vinik. He’s no Goldman Sachs carpetbagger like Stuey Sternberg…he not only loves the Lightning and is incredibly involved yet let’s Yzerman handle the actual player part..Vinik LOVES Tampa Bay! He’s already done more for our community than all the other owners combined in the history of Tampa sports.

Vinik…Jones…Richardson are exceptions. We could do worse than the Glazers.

  23. Nick2 Says:

Equal to “Little to no interest in more Super Bowl victories” unfortunately.

  24. Pickgrin Says:

Winning cures all. Relevance and influence are hard to come by when your team has mostly sucked a$$ for the last 10 years.

The thing to do is hire an experienced, defensive minded head coach with a track record of NFL success – then draft a supremely talented QB – and your team’s fortunes are almost bound to improve immensely.

Hmmm – that sounds familiar – where have I heard of that strategy before?

  25. BFFL Says:

Papa glazer was powerful but his kids are irrelevant

  26. Joseph Mamma Says:

The Buc’s owners hit the sperm lottery and aren’t fit to run a McDonalds. Unless of coarse daddy owned the mickey d’s.

  27. RealBucFan Says:

I think all these replies shoes how dumb our fanbase is. I’m glad the Glazers tell Dumb A** Godell to shove it, Godell could be the demise of the NFL. The Glazer family has done great things here, and they gave us a Championship. Sounds like we have a bunch of Roger Godell fans here, and obviously our owners are not. The NFL is not politics, it’s a game, and no one here see’s that. Wow…….
