Logan Mankins has a history with the Bucs’ rising center

Joe would have no issue if the Bucs replaced starting center Evan Smith with rising former fourth-stringer Jeremiah Warren.

Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, played well and looked comfortable with Warren snapping him the ball in the first two preseason games. Also, the Bucs’ offensive line played its best ball of the summer with Warren using his massive 6-4, 320-pound frame in the middle.

Joe’s not quite leading a Warren Mob, but Joe wouldn’t need to see much more to join one. Smith, 29, is unimpressive and, if Jameis is indeed more comfortable with Warren, then so be it.

Logan Mankins talked to media at One Buc Palace today and said he played with Warren when he was an undrafted rookie out of South Florida on the Patriots in 2012.

“Jeremiah’s done good this year. I was actually with Jerry his first year, his rookie year, and he came a long why since then. He’s improved a lot, mentally, physically, his work habits, everything.”

The Patriots cut Warren late in the summer of 2012, and Jason Licht, then a Cardinals executive, brought him to Phoenix. He spent a chunk of 2013 with offensive line coach George Warhop before landing with the Bucs last year.

Warren turns 28 in September and has yet to play in an NFL regular-season game.

Saturday against the Bengals, Warren made his first professional start. In fact, Warren told Joe that it was the first time he played against a first-team NFL defense. He said it was a big boost to his confidence to be able to perform against a good defense and a star in Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins.

As for his apparent chemistry with Jameis, Warren said he doesn’t think there’s anything unique there. But he thinks he’s a good fit on the O-line — and with a hyped up quarterback.

“I just try to keep calm, keep a calm heart and a calm spirit that keeps everyone else calm and focused,” Warren said.

If you are calm and focused you will deliver the ball properly.

    I’ll join the JWM!

    Go Bucs!

In Lovie and Licht I TRUST!

  2. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Start him again against the Browns and see how he does. I’m not an EDS fan, obviously!!!lol

It’s amazing how the good teams in the NFL…Packers…Pats..Seahawks..Broncos etc seem to be able to find diamonds in the rough every year.

Maybe that’s as good a sign as any. If Warren starts center and we two rookie OL staring beside him along with rookie signal caller at QB and one at MLB…this draft and the rest of Licht’s decisions just rock!!

I’m becoming a huge Jason Licht fan.

  4. CL Bucs Says:

I like this guy. Bench Evan Fatty-Smith and put this guy under starting center.

  5. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Kenny Bell needs to come through. That was Licht’s boy.

  6. Buc1987 Says:

I see a few posters here and there that keep getting excited over the job Licht did with the past draft. Talking about certain players that were drafted and now they might be starters. When I read their posts I can’t help but wonder, why they think that way until they see how these rookies play during the season. Just because the Bucs might have 4 rookies starting doesn’t really mean squat yet. Does it?

  7. pete Says:

EDS would be a good backup guard and backup center!

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

OK….I get the ABEDS…….”Anybody But Evan Dietrich-Smith”…….EDS has taken a pounding from Joe (perhaps warranted)…..but, it remains to be seen if we have a better center on the roster. I don’t rank a few snaps and apparant comfort level with Jameis as the determing factor going forward.
So count me in the WAS crowd…….Wait and see!!!

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo thinks we should dump EDS and bring in BDLP…..Brian de la Puente. Pablo wants brown on the Bucs….since we released Evan Rodriguez. Pablo is a very, very nice man and likes all JBF posters….even the Buc Realist”

  10. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

Connor Barth is available again…any concern at the field goal kicker spot? My hand is raised.

  11. buc4life1979 Says:

WOW!!! U mean we have a center on the roster that can start that ISN”T INTERESTED in playing pathetic ass no name word games, but instead just wants to focus on being a solid anchor in the middle like he’s PAID TO DO AND RALLY AROUND HIS STARTING QB?????? You don’t say…..With Lovie “uping the ante” and apparently being in no lame ass football allowed anymore mode, if “Warren J” puts it on film again this Sat, then WHY THE HELL NOT??

  12. Stanglassman Says:

I can’t believe they went back to their old kicker in Denver. Barth went 15-16 last season for them and 3-4 50+. I would go after him again if I were the Bucs but I would choose another team if I were him. Getting cut here was a raw deal.
It’s funny to read that George Worhop came in from AZ by Jason L. . On these pages I’ve read over and over he was brought here by Lovie because they were such close friends because they are both bla people.

  13. GhostofTedford Says:

You guys praising Jason Licht answer me one question. Why with $12.1 million left under the cap did he allow Denver to sign an all pro free agent Offensive Lineman like Evan Mathis for $4 million? If he is so smart and our O-line is clearly our achilles heel, how do you let an all pro guard walk? We could have easily paid him the 5.5 million he was seeking. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/cap/

  14. Buccfan37 Says:

I think the Bucs will keep the kicker they have.

  15. DrHoagy Says:

I’ll say it again, let’s see how he(Warren) does when a LB is blitzing the A gap and he has to handle a 350lb NT. Saturday when he goes against Danny Shelton could tell the tale.

  16. Stanglassman Says:

Why keep one the of the worst NFL kickers when one of the best is available. What’s a few more wins anyway we won’t need them right 37? Murray wasn’t good last year and so far he is 1/1 in ex pts, 1/1 in fgs this preseason, not good. Bad kicking cost you games.

  17. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    87

Just because the Bucs might have 4 rookies starting doesn’t really mean squat yet. Does it?

Have we witnessed the invasion of the body snatchers? What’s up with you 87

You spent all spring convincing Fameis was the real deal. Fameis would lead us to glory. Book it you said!!! How could you say that based on two years at FSU.

Because you saw what you saw. We’ve seen enough of Marpet and Smith and especially Kwon Alexander! Oh and did I add that we have a stud QB and I’m not basing that on two years at FSU or with all respect 87 you or Stangglass opinions…but because we’ve now seen Fameis against NFL competition and we can give you props. You were right he’s the real deal. Alexander is clearly the real deal, and from all that we’ve seen so are Marpet and Smith. If Bell can actually grow into a player, even if it takes a year or two, this draft will go down as the best in Bucs history. The FA pickups this year were also good.

That’s why we love Licht. But I feel ya…yeah it’s the preseason and we are what our record says we are…0-0. And so nobody can claim scoreboard yet.
I’m on board for a 10-6 season I think you expect a high water mark of 6. I understand that will all the rookies. But at this moment neither of us is right or wrong….we are 0-0 which is the only fact.

  18. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

St.Pete I think 87 is just trying like all of us to not get over excitied just yet. Everytime we do we get let down. So this time we are letting the players do the talking on the field. After the first preseason game I’m sure we all got texts from people giving us crap on how they played, and I just responded back with its just preseason and for alot of these guys their first game. So when the second game came it’s funny how many texted me how awesome they looked and I replied back who cares…I’m very excitied by this team, but I will stay humble and let the players do their job. I’m not going to get caught up in the drama and just cheer on my team good and bad. I see passion and leadership for once in this team, and I do believe something special is coming together. Crossing my fingers just maybe our time is coming. I’m tired of being the laughing stock of the NFL and ready for our team to turn the corner. One thing I’m proud of is that I stick by my team good and bad. I can’t wait to see the steelers and patriots fans do the same when they no longer have QBS of dominance. All I can say is Karma is a biotch. Go Bucs!

  19. MadMax Says:

Warren definitely needs to be starting until he shows he’s not worthy of it.make EDS the backup.

  20. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I hear ya tired and 87 is right. I get the fear of just another disappointment.
And I certainly do not question 87’s logic. I can even accept this his opinion is far more widely held than mine. One of us is mistaken and we’ll find out in December.

But here is the fundamental point. You can be all excited and the Bucs go 2-14 disappointing you once again. Bummer. Or they could win ten and your excitement simply continues through the season.

Or you can be a “pragmatic realist” and view all the past disasters and present causes for concern, 4 rookies, two at the most important positions on Offense and Defense and curb your enthusiasm. If the Bucs lose you’ll be right but you will have spent the entire season in a depresssed or negative mood. If they win then you will have TOTALLY WASTED what Carly Simon sang so brilliantly..Anticipation.

This is true in all walks of life. I’ve always looked at the positive outcome. When I’ve been disappointed I simply move on. But I NEVER waste time in disappointment BEFORE it even occurs! Just sayin’. I honestly get the “objective” posters here I simply disagree.

  21. Stanglassman Says:

    The Bucs resigned Conner Barth!

  22. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

You have a point St.pete Buc. Trust me I’m super excitied about what we have and where we are headed just staying humble about it. I guess I’m a little superstitious as well. Haha. Can’t wait to see these guys on Saturday in person. I just pray we have no major injuries. That being said I guess my post from early was heard and we signed Barth. Cool beans I liked that guy! Go Bucs!

  23. gotbbucs Says:

Your center cant be a hot head like Smith. It puts unneeded stress on the whole unit. Whoever Winston is most comfortable with should get the nod if everything else is equal performance wise.

  24. gotbbucs Says:

The last two self appointed bad ass centers covered with tatoos that we paid big money to in free agency have both been turds. It’s probably time for EDS to pull up a bar stool next to Anthony Collins and laugh about all the money they stole from the Bucs.

You guys praising Jason Licht answer me one question. Why with $12.1 million left under the cap did he allow Denver to sign an all pro free agent Offensive Lineman like Evan Mathis for $4 million?”

“Ian Rapoport reported that Mathis will earn up to $4 million with incentives tied to playing time. He turned down a $5.5 million offer from another team because of his desire to play for a contender, ”

Do you have inside knowledge this wasn’t Licht?

  26. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    L&WD

Not sure I understand your point? If the Broncos signed Mathis for 4 million and he reportedly turned down 1.5 million MORE from another team because they weren’t a contender how can that reflect on Licht?

That’s an opinion of one disgrunted greedy vet who knows squat about what’s going on with the Bucs.

If you’re asking me if I trust Licht’s ability as a GM versus Mathis that’s not too hard of a call. Having said that what player wouldn’t go to the SB losers who still have one of the all time greats than to a team that has four rookies starting and is coming off a 2-14 record. That’s hardly a reflection on Licht nor for that matter is it endoresment of Mathis handicapping.

But I’m not totally unrealistic. I’m sure Vegas lines up far more closely with Mathis decision than my prediction for 10 wins. And as far as Mathis is concerned he wouldn’t be pleased with my prediction anyway…I do not consider the Bucs a contender. I consider them a ten win team and one and done in the playoffs. Mathis want’s a Super Bowl ring and he is apparently willing to pay 1.5 Million to get one. For that I DO respect Mathis. He is the anti Darrelle I can never make enough money Revis.

My only point was GhostofTedford said Licht failed because Mathis signed for only 4 mill in Denver. His inference was that he could have been signed elsewhere by offering him more money. For all we know, that was Licht who offered the 5.5m. We don’t know. Some guys, especially at his age are only going to sign for what they consider to be a Lombardi contender.

Even shorter version – You can’t fault Licht on the Mathis signing.
