Video: The Play Before Gerald McCoy Stormed The Bucs’ Huddle

August 21st, 2015

gerald mccoy 0814Joe served up cool video of the Bucs in an angry practice skirmish yesterday at One Buc Palace.

And now, Joe has video of what led to the flared tempers. Gerald McCoy, Clinton McDonald, Ali Marpet and Evan Smith are the stars.

You can watch below. McCoy attempts to spin away from Marpet, complete with an elbow to the head. Smith takes McDonald to the ground.

The Bucs have been engaged in lots of angry football in the Tampa swelter this week. Joe likes the edge. And Ali Marpet always seems to bien the thick of the most physical play. Enjoy the video below. You can see the aftermath via the link above.

So something happened w/ McDonald and the o-line guys to the right of the camera view? Cuz we can’t really see anything from that which would lead to a skirmish.

In any case, I like that our guys are competing and playing with some anger, hopefully the bring it in the games this year!

    Speaking for the Realist

“Yea great….showing some emotion…..how ’bout lets see some of that in a real game!!!……not with passive Lovie Smith…..oh well….another 2-14 season on the way…..can’t wait to say the same next year…..the year after that and the year after that….
And, my wife is older….uglier, saggy and naggy…..oh well, life is such a bummer”

  3. mac Says:

I think McCoy is getting pissed because he is getting man handled… Perhaps losing all that weight was not such a good idea… You can’t play defensive tackle in the NFL at 6-5″ 265… He isn’t a quick tackle anymore he is a slow defensive end playing tackle…

Put on some weight and perhaps you won’t get pushed around by a rookie so badly…

  4. Bucwild007 Says:

@ Mac that might be one of the stupidest “takes” I have seen on any forum. McCoy is not quick? Are you kidding me?

  5. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Mccoy was last 265 in 5th grade. I don’t know what the hell you are looking at.

  6. mac Says:

    Haha… He doesn’t look much bigger then ASJ… Take a look… ASJ is @ 6-5. 255…

He got pushed around in Minnesota on the goal line like a lost puppy…

    It looked really really bad…

    @JOE

(You have video footage. You were there. I’m sure you would have mentioned that right off the bat. I’m also sure that would have been your headline. “Ali shows grit in scuffle with Gerald. Yanks his helmet off.”)………..

Looks like I was right. Big Brother Ali in the middle of it all.

  8. mac Says:

I didn’t say McCoy wasn’t quick… I merely stated that his attempt to shed weight wasn’t such a great idea because he is getting pushed around like a little girl on skates…

Did you see his effort on the goal line? That’s our leader???

    Booooooo!

  9. buc4life1979 Says:

    @mac
GMC’s on the record stating he lost 12 pounds….considering ur avaerage O lineman can bench 300-600+pounds…squat 400-800+, do u REALLY think 12 pounds makes a difference?

  10. loser Says:

It’s gonna be a long long season. Defence sucks and O is worse

  11. DB55 Says:

Ali Marpet, they just make’em a little tougher in NY. The kid grew up less than an hour from where I grew up. You have to be tough in that neck of the woods. I love that fact that Ali can do what normally take 3 grown men to do, block the #1 best DT in the league. #tripleteams #allthetime

  12. mac Says:

When you are already undersized and injury prone – yes, I do think it matters… And after training camp in 100 plus degree heat his weight loss is probably more like 20 pounds…

  13. mac Says:

    @ loser

I think we can win at least 4 games… That would double our take from last year…

  14. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @mac

Go to a practice and tell me he’s the same size as ASJ. Better yet, go to a practice and tell me he’s getting man handled. No offense, but your statements are extremely ignorant. Gmc is a monster in person.

  15. mac Says:

He didn’t look like a beast in Minnesota… He played like he was hurt or maybe he is afraid to get hurt… He got pushed three yards back on the goal line… That was lame…

Let’s hope he looks better against the Bungels…

  16. DamnImFameis Says:

McCoy told the guys on NFL radio yesterday that he weighed 295 that morning…where you toads get your information amazes me.

  17. Hawaiian Buc Says:

So you’re judging him off of one series? LMAO. Some people, smh.

  18. Bobby Says:

@Mac is such a genius at evaluating film. Some of these comments are so telling on the age of the poster. Obviously a teenager with limited football knowledge. Or maybe just a stupid adult with limited football knowledge. Either way, the comments are so telling. Absolutely clueless.

  19. Rod Says:

@Mac is one big dummy. You got the best DT in football and this moron is talking about how he gets manhandled. OK there lady… anywho do me a favor and stick to reviewing glory holes, at least there you know what you’re talking about.

  20. Strider Says:

^^^^ agreed Go Bucs GMC is all pro this year watch

  21. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Mac…you would be smart to bail on this one, because you are so obviously wrong that to argue it just makes you look dumber.

  22. DB55 Says:

All you have to do to nuetralize GMC is go on 2. Dudes jumps offsides every single time.

  23. Makie Lovie Says:

I think GMC is the BEST defensive lineman in the league – AT least for the bucs! AND At least for the first quarter of each game!

  24. mac Says:

Sorry, I just believe the guy is over rated… I think he is good not great… He has averaged 5 sacks a season since he has been in the league… Big woop… He has only played two complete seasons as well… He is injury prone…

He didn’t look very good in Minnesota we shall see how he looks against the Bengals…

I hope he can stay healthy and have a great season…

You guys are acting like I said he sucks or something… Gesh… Relax Francis…

  25. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    Mac,

A DT is generally only as good as the guy’s around him. With a DT coming up the middle, a qb can shift either left or right and avoid him. If the ends are also getting pressure, he gets swallowed up by the DT. If they aren’t, then he won’t get sacks. Mccoy has yet to play with anyone who can consistently get pressure from the edge. Until that happens, he’s going to just be “disruptive”.

As for him being injury prone, I disagree. He’s missed 3 games inn3 years, and he probably wouldn’t have missed more than 1 if we weren’t in the chase for Jameis. Not everyone is Brett Favre.

  26. mac Says:

In his career he has missed 16 games… That’s quite a few games IMO…

  27. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Some people have difficulty determining preseason from the regular season.

Unless it’s rookie trying to make the team or a sub trying to get to the starting lineup players simply do not sell out in the preseason. Why should they. Sometimes brains is better than braun.

The replay that isolated on GMC during the Bucs attempted goal line stand showed him get double teamed and then just get pushed into the end zone. He didn’t put up that much of a fight but it wouldn’t have mattered anyway.

GMC himself commented after the gme that it wasn’t his best effort on that play.

At some point discretion is better than valor. It’s like cheap shot Schiano trying to crash the line when the game is OVER and the QB is simply running out the game. And so at the age of 67 I remember one play like that when Herm Edwards managed to get a ball at the end…one time in thousands and thousands of these plays. And so do we really want to risk injuries at a meaningless time in a game that has been decided? Or sell out to stop a certain TD in the preseason?

  28. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

I’ liking Mongo more and more. No back down in this young man.

  29. Ray Rice Says:

    @DB

    LMFAO!!!!!!

  30. Chris Says:

Mac you’re an idiot. McCoy isn’t at 265

  31. feelthepewterpower Says:

Did I just read the McCoy is overrated? lol…if anything, he’s underrated with having a subpar passrush surrounding him….DT’s job isn’t necessarily to produce sacks, for the record…unless you’re a HOF DT….McCoy nearly had ten sacks last season in thirteen games!

    Some of Gerald’s career achievements:
Selected to Pro Bowl following 2012, 2013, and 2014 seasons.
Named All-Pro by Associated Press (first team, 2013; second team, 2014), Sporting News (first team, 2013-2014), and PFWA (first team, 2013; All-NFC, 2014).
Served as a Buccaneers defensive captain in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Has 27.0 career sacks, tied for the eighth-most in franchise history.
Tied for NFL lead among defensive tackles in sacks since 2012 (23) and leads among the group since 2013 (18).
His career-high 9.5 sacks in 2013 were the fourth-most in the NFL by a defensive tackles and the fifth-most ever by a Buccaneers defensive tackle.
In 2013, he was Pro Football Focus’ highest-rated defensive tackle and recorded the second-highest grade they have ever given (2008-present). According to the website, McCoy’s 79.5 combined sacks, quarterback hits and pressures led the NFL.
His 15 tackles for loss in 2013, ranked seventh in the NFL and first among defensive tackles.
Posted career-high three sacks vs. Atlanta (11/17/13), which tied for the most sacks in a single game by a Buccaneers defensive tackle.
In 2012, anchored NFL’s No. 1-ranked rushing defense, which allowed a franchise-record 82.5 yards per game. Also ranked second on team with five sacks and added 30 tackles, two passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery

  32. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @feelthepewterpower,

You can’t give actual facts to the GMC haters. They can’t deal with it. They are the experts, and everyone else knows nothing. It’s pretty comical, but fun to watch them squirm.

  33. mac Says:

Who is squirming? I’m still here and I still think McCoy is overrated… I hope he can show a better effort against Cincinnati because Minnesota looked pretty bad…

  34. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    Denial. Classic squirming technique.

  35. mac Says:

Haha… Your in denial… McCoy is overrated… I hope he is able to put on a few pounds so he can get off the roller skates he played on in Minnesota…

  36. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Pretending you know more than the experts and players. Another classic squirming technique.

  37. Hawaiian Buc Says:

It’s very common for bad teams in a small market to have players that are overrated. Everyone just loves to do that. Isn’t that right? Of course, they’ll probably take away any record of his achievements now, simply because he’s 265 pounds and got pushed back on a double team at the goal line in the first preseason game. Boy Mac, your football knowledge is impressive. You should be a talent evaluator or scout, because you’ve got it all figured out. I’m amazed by your skill set.

  38. mac Says:

You don’t need to be a professional talent evaluator to use your eyeballs and clearly see that McCoy is soft… It wasn’t just one play in Minnesota… I saw McCoy getting pushed around on several plays…

Perhaps Minnesota was an annomally… Maybe Gerold just didn’t want to play… But this guy is supposed to be our leader… I watched Suh play in preseason and he is in regular season form… Not getting pushed around and straight back even on double teams…

You need to raise your standards… You are too accustomed to cheering for mediocrity… McCoy needs to step it up…

  39. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @mac,

So are you trying to tell me that Suh never gets pushed around when double teamed? Give me a break, you’re a clown. You go ahead and cry some more about preseason. Apparently you don’t care that literally everyone except Ray Rice is calling you out as an idiot. Trust me, that’s company you don’t want to keep.

As for be being accustomed to cheering for mediocrity, nothing could be further from the truth. However, it is completely stupid to complain about our undisputed best player. He’s not the one to complain about. He’s not the reason we are a bad team. If we had more guys like McCoy, we’d be a great team. He’s got amazing work ethic and he gets great results (despite what morons who know nothing about football try to say). Complain about the guys who aren’t performing. Complain about the coaches, who aren’t getting the best out of those guys. Complain about the front office for not building an adequate team around our few great players (McCoy, David, Jackson, Evans). Complain about our ownership for not doing enough to build a winner. Don’t complain about the guy who busts his arse for this team. And like I’ve said a million times, don’t call a man soft over the internet if you aren’t willing to say it to his face. That’s a punk move. Funny how I’ve never heard such a ridiculous accusation from anyone who has ever played with him, against him, or coached him. But I guess some clown with an anonymous internet name knows more than everyone else. Now get out of your basement and get out and enjoy your life.

  40. cometowin2 Says:

    Amen brother.

  41. mac Says:

I agree with you, there is a ton of issues with this team and many reasons to be frustrated at this lame franchise we cheer for… I never once stated that Gerold McCoy was a bad person or football player… You can call me all the names you want… I have the right to my own opinion and until Joe tells me to shut up I will continue to voice my opinions and frustrations on here whenever I feel inspired to do so…

My opinion is Gerold McCoy is overrated… It is not a popular opinion on this site or with other Bucs fans but I don’t care…

Until he shows me a better effort then he showed against Minnesota I am going to stick with it…

I said the same thing about Josh Freeman and Mark Dominik and I was called way worse back then… So have at it…

  42. BadBuc Says:

Mr Hawaii has a point about other players that play around McCoy. Maybe you just start playing down to their level. at is what I see. mac has a good point too. Our team is probably in the bottom 4. That’s being nice. Frustrating you bet. I’ve been watching pro football since 1955. I am a good evaluator of talent sometimes with good teams. I’ll be rooting for you GO BUCS
