Video: The Play Before Gerald McCoy Stormed The Bucs’ Huddle

Joe served up cool video of the Bucs in an angry practice skirmish yesterday at One Buc Palace.
And now, Joe has video of what led to the flared tempers. Gerald McCoy, Clinton McDonald, Ali Marpet and Evan Smith are the stars.
You can watch below. McCoy attempts to spin away from Marpet, complete with an elbow to the head. Smith takes McDonald to the ground.
The Bucs have been engaged in lots of angry football in the Tampa swelter this week. Joe likes the edge. And Ali Marpet always seems to bien the thick of the most physical play. Enjoy the video below. You can see the aftermath via the link above.

So something happened w/ McDonald and the o-line guys to the right of the camera view? Cuz we can’t really see anything from that which would lead to a skirmish.
In any case, I like that our guys are competing and playing with some anger, hopefully the bring it in the games this year!

I think McCoy is getting pissed because he is getting man handled… Perhaps losing all that weight was not such a good idea… You can’t play defensive tackle in the NFL at 6-5″ 265… He isn’t a quick tackle anymore he is a slow defensive end playing tackle…
Put on some weight and perhaps you won’t get pushed around by a rookie so badly…

I didn’t say McCoy wasn’t quick… I merely stated that his attempt to shed weight wasn’t such a great idea because he is getting pushed around like a little girl on skates…

Ali Marpet, they just make’em a little tougher in NY. The kid grew up less than an hour from where I grew up. You have to be tough in that neck of the woods. I love that fact that Ali can do what normally take 3 grown men to do, block the #1 best DT in the league. #tripleteams #allthetime

When you are already undersized and injury prone – yes, I do think it matters… And after training camp in 100 plus degree heat his weight loss is probably more like 20 pounds…

He didn’t look like a beast in Minnesota… He played like he was hurt or maybe he is afraid to get hurt… He got pushed three yards back on the goal line… That was lame…

Sorry, I just believe the guy is over rated… I think he is good not great… He has averaged 5 sacks a season since he has been in the league… Big woop… He has only played two complete seasons as well… He is injury prone…
He didn’t look very good in Minnesota we shall see how he looks against the Bengals…

A DT is generally only as good as the guy’s around him. With a DT coming up the middle, a qb can shift either left or right and avoid him. If the ends are also getting pressure, he gets swallowed up by the DT. If they aren’t, then he won’t get sacks. Mccoy has yet to play with anyone who can consistently get pressure from the edge. Until that happens, he’s going to just be “disruptive”.
As for him being injury prone, I disagree. He’s missed 3 games inn3 years, and he probably wouldn’t have missed more than 1 if we weren’t in the chase for Jameis. Not everyone is Brett Favre.

Some people have difficulty determining preseason from the regular season.
Unless it’s rookie trying to make the team or a sub trying to get to the starting lineup players simply do not sell out in the preseason. Why should they. Sometimes brains is better than braun.
The replay that isolated on GMC during the Bucs attempted goal line stand showed him get double teamed and then just get pushed into the end zone. He didn’t put up that much of a fight but it wouldn’t have mattered anyway.
GMC himself commented after the gme that it wasn’t his best effort on that play.
At some point discretion is better than valor. It’s like cheap shot Schiano trying to crash the line when the game is OVER and the QB is simply running out the game. And so at the age of 67 I remember one play like that when Herm Edwards managed to get a ball at the end…one time in thousands and thousands of these plays. And so do we really want to risk injuries at a meaningless time in a game that has been decided? Or sell out to stop a certain TD in the preseason?

Did I just read the McCoy is overrated? lol…if anything, he’s underrated with having a subpar passrush surrounding him….DT’s job isn’t necessarily to produce sacks, for the record…unless you’re a HOF DT….McCoy nearly had ten sacks last season in thirteen games!

It’s very common for bad teams in a small market to have players that are overrated. Everyone just loves to do that. Isn’t that right? Of course, they’ll probably take away any record of his achievements now, simply because he’s 265 pounds and got pushed back on a double team at the goal line in the first preseason game. Boy Mac, your football knowledge is impressive. You should be a talent evaluator or scout, because you’ve got it all figured out. I’m amazed by your skill set.

You don’t need to be a professional talent evaluator to use your eyeballs and clearly see that McCoy is soft… It wasn’t just one play in Minnesota… I saw McCoy getting pushed around on several plays…
Perhaps Minnesota was an annomally… Maybe Gerold just didn’t want to play… But this guy is supposed to be our leader… I watched Suh play in preseason and he is in regular season form… Not getting pushed around and straight back even on double teams…
You need to raise your standards… You are too accustomed to cheering for mediocrity… McCoy needs to step it up…

Complain about the coaches, who aren’t getting the best out of those guys. Complain about the front office for not building an adequate team around our few great players (McCoy, David, Jackson, Evans). Complain about our ownership for not doing enough to build a winner. Don’t complain about the guy who busts his arse for this team. And like I’ve said a million times, don’t call a man soft over the internet if you aren’t willing to say it to his face. I agree with you, there is a ton of issues with this team and many reasons to be frustrated at this lame franchise we cheer for… I never once stated that Gerold McCoy was a bad person or football player… You can call me all the names you want… I have the right to my own opinion and until Joe tells me to shut up I will continue to voice my opinions and frustrations on here whenever I feel inspired to do so…
My opinion is Gerold McCoy is overrated… It is not a popular opinion on this site or with other Bucs fans but I don’t care…
Until he shows me a better effort then he showed against Minnesota I am going to stick with it…
I said the same thing about Josh Freeman and Mark Dominik and I was called way worse back then… So have at it…
