Sabby Piscitelli Might Need A Kick
August 11th, 2009One of Joe’s irritants is the move of strong safety Jermaine Phillips, 30, to weakside linebacker, a position he has never played.
Not only is the move dicey at best because there has to be a learning curve for Phillips, but the move also weakened an area that was the strength of the Bucs’ defense, that being the secondary.
For there not to be a drop off, Sabby Piscitelli, who fills Phillips’ shoes at strong safety, needs to play consistently. But for every big play Piscitelli made, he was getting burned on another.
Well, it seems eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune is of the same mind. Joe has stated before that fans following the TBO gang on Twitter are virtually brought right on the field during practice. And here is an example from Kaufman.
Don’t know who is pushing Piscitelli at SS, but somebody needs to instill a sense of urgency in him to get his hands on a few balls.
Joe believes that Piscitelli may be the key to the Bucs secondary. He is one of the few players in camp not battling for a position. If he plays well, so too should the secondary. Given the fact the Bucs may not have much of a push up front from a suspect defensive line, it’s imperative that the secondary play solid football.

last year whenever there was a big play made against our defesive secondary, you would see #21 and # 31 standing there. I began to call them # 52.
