Titans Watch: 26 More Days

McCLuster Joe’s already called opening day against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 13 in Tampa a “must-win.”

It’s not a must-win for the standings. Duh. But it is necessary for the psyche of a fanbase that’s hasn’t seen a home victory since 2013, and compares Jameis Winston to Marcus Mariota.

Leave it to the lousy Titans to be confused by how to use one of their top free-agents last year, Dexter McCluster, the pride of Largo.

Joe hoped McCluster, the do-it-all running back/returner was on the Bucs’ radar last season, but that didn’t happen. Instead, the 2013 Pro Bowler, who’s still just 25 years old, signed with Tennessee for about $4 million per year and little guaranteed money.

Now, McCluster is publicly begging for the rock, reports The Tennesseean.

“When people say, ‘How do you use this guy?’ or they claim they can’t use him, I say, ‘Just let me play,’” McCluster said. “That’s all I ask: ‘Let me prove to you what I can do.’ ”

Last season he had 26 catches for 197 yards, 40 rushing attempts for 131 yards and 22 punt returns for 155 yards. He had the fifth most catches on the team and the third most rushing attempts.

In his final season (2013) with the Chiefs, McCluster had 53 catches for 511 yards and two touchdowns and returned 58 punts for 686 yards and two TDs. He carried the ball only eight times and gained only one-half yard that season.
 Joe recommends reading the entire feature. It seems Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt acknowledges that McCluster needed more action last season. He scored the Titans first TD of the preseason, a six-yard run with the first team.
McCluster scares Joe, especially after watching the Bucs cover punts on Saturday night. He’s just a big-time weapon that seems ripe for revitalization.

    Dexter was a rb at Largo. And believe it or not, L Johnson was a qb! Needless to say our offense was very fast and dangerous using a read option.
    Johnson also played safety, so im really surprised he hasnt gotten a look there. He just doesnt have the speed to play corner.

    It’s hard to believe that all of us die-hard fans are wanting football so badly that we are this excited to watch the 2 worst teams in the NFL play each other, lol

    Maybe Tennessee had a tank job going last year themselves, but the Bucs out tanked them. They would probably have taken Mariota if picking first anyway.

    Speaking of lousy…have you seen the Buccaneer offensive line and defensive confusion?

    Should be a heck of a game…Mariota seemed to fair about as well as Jameis – and he ran against the first team defense – and threw a couple of laser shots – along with HIS interception. He accounted
