Bucs rookie left tackle Donovan Smith

The Bucs have a very hungry corps of defensive ends, “yungry,” as Raheem Morris liked to say.

Larry English has the most career sacks at that position (12), and he’s the elder statesman and best known for being the Chargers’ first-round bust in 2009.

In this exclusive JoeBucsFan.com video below, English, who worked over Demar Dotson from the left side yesterday, flips to right defensive end and bull rushes the No. 34 overall pick, rookie first-team left tackle Donovan Smith.

Yes, the pass rush was a winner through much of Friday’s practice.

Dancing Panda you owe me a pancake now.

  2. Tom Edrington Says:

Who the hell is the Dancing Panda? Pandas are some of the laziest creatures on earth in real life….

  3. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

When English first came here a few years ago, I felt he had potential…if the team had patience. We’ll see.

  4. DB55 Says:

Do my eyes deceive me or is Rudy Marpet handling his own? 87 must feel like a proud papa.

    PS – Happy birthday Joes

  5. BlogTalkFootball Says:

    Marpet is a beast!

  6. Buc1987 Says:

lol DB..I’m the biggest Marpet fan on this site.

  7. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

    Not that Kung fu one.

  8. NonyaDamnBucsiness Says:

    87,

You can claim ultimate fanboy status of JW3 but you cant claim them all! A few 9f us, including myself will give you a run for your money when it comes to Ali. I got high expectations for this kid. I truly think he is going to out perform Donavan.

  9. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

And I noticed “real life”. But I dabble in meta-physics so your perception of real life and mine might be quite different.

  10. Buc1987 Says:

NonyaDamnBucsiness …lol I’m a fan of lots of players. Everyone loves the underdog and Marpet is our Rudy. In fact that ought be his nickname from here on out.

    Rudy, Rudy, Rudy!

    Bullspit.

I was the ONLY one who wanted to draft him, ’87!

  12. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

And I still say Marpet will become our starting center before the season ends. Mark my words.

  13. NonyaDamnBucsiness Says:

    87,

Lol! Rudy could work. Mongo was recommended the other day. Ali is just too smart for that. Rudy was a small kid which Ali is far from but definitely an underdog. I’m still waiting to hear the name that truly clicks. Maybe just simply Ali?

  14. Harry Says:

    @’87,
You know I love ya bro, but a 2nd rd pick is neither an underdog nor a “Rudy”. At the 2nd rd level, a player is expected to start, especially at the weakest position on the weakest team in the league.

  15. NonyaDamnBucsiness Says:

    Bonzai,

I’ll raise the bet and say before the half way point. This kid is smart and physical. He is stepping up faster than I expected.

    GO ALI! GO BUCS!

  16. bucsbedabest Says:

English looked like he has a running start and Smith could not get his feet set. Shade is going to be fine. With Smith and Marpet getting first team reps it is only going to help both players progress.

  17. Tom Edrington Says:

    @Nole on Sat Nite:

Unfortunately, football has to be part of the real as opposed to your meta-physical world and make-believe stuff like a Kung-Fu Panda character……

Sunday afternoons on the field are real, not meta-physical.

    Sorry.

  18. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Tom E. I won’t debate you on that last post here but trust me my friend everything is meta-physical homie. Everything.

  19. Capt.Tim Says:

English has talent. Was miscast as a LB in Denver. Hes a DE. Meybe a good one.

Donavan Smith is the player I am watching the Closest. He can be a great LT, if he can adjust to NFL DE speed. Smith is a huge, powerful man- hope he will anchor LT for next 12 years.

But, hes still a rookie. And Rookies get beat. Hopefully, he learns from it.

  20. Fsuking Says:

That was brutal. English just ran through him, no move and he didn’t even overpower him. Smith just politely let him go.

  21. Fsuking Says:

And on that one you can really see brother Ali’s pure strength. He could end up being the one rookie who starts on that line. I’ll be mad if we gift it to Donovan Smith and then have to bench him.

  22. Yungry Says:

@joe thanks for the Yungry article

  23. Buc1987 Says:

Harry….he went to Hobart. Regardless of what round he was drafted in, that qualifies him to be a “Rudy”.

From Hobart to NFL….that’s a HUGE jump and the deck is stacked against him.

    Rudy, Rudy, Rudy…

  24. Buc1987 Says:

Bonzai …when everyone was trashing him as the pick. I was defending for days after the draft. Hell I never even knew the dude before I heard his named called in the draft. Not too much film on the kid, and what good would it have done to look at it anyways, being he was basically playing High School football in college.

I didn’t watch the senior bowl and really not all that much of the combine except for here and there.

  25. Buccfan37 Says:

I remember BuccaneerBonzai liking Marpet before the draft, if that clears up who’s on first.

  26. Buc1987 Says:

Tell us what he wins Buccfan37 ?
