Video: English Lessons

August 7th, 2015

EnglishA win for the defense is a head-shaking moment for the offense. It’s the see-saw of training camp.

But anything that can lead to the impaling of Jamies Winston, America’s Quarterback, is a bit troubling.

Kudos to Larry English today for beating Demar Dotson badly with an inside rush, and later schooling rookie left tackle Donovan Smith with a bull rush.

Joe’s got video (and will have more). Enjoy, or weep, depending on your perspective.

Joe I watched it over and over and over and I couldn’t see anyone close enough to stop that pass from happening. Maybe it’s just me

  2. PassItToSteven Says:

    @David

He was almost at a full stop in front of Winston…

  3. Buc1987 Says:

I did the same thing Davis..perhaps I need slow motion….

  4. Capt.Tim Says:

Whats really Troubling, is that Dotson has always given up at least a couple of those every game.
Love Dotson. Great story, came from No where to win that RT job. Still involved in his community. Just a good guy. And a good RT.
Good against Run. Normally decent against Pass rush.
But 2-3 times every game, he just gets blown up!
Its like he loses concentration, and gives up one of those QB killer rushes!

Joe, have you, or anyone else noticed that?
Its just like he has two-three”One-play naps”a game.

  5. Buc1987 Says:

Yes sir Tim I did notice Dotson’s side being destroyed, but I didn’t see the defender pull up because whoever was manning the camera moved away to follow the ball..naturally.

All I can say is those guys on the defensive side get paid to make plays too. Let’s not lose perspective.

  7. Capt.Tim Says:

Defensive players are supposed to make plays also.
And Every offensive linemen gets beat once in a while.
But, worst case senario- you at least slow him down.
Dotson let English go at full speed.
At has a habit iof doing so

That puts your QB on IR, and a DE on sportcenter highlights, on the dreaded BSPN

  8. BFFL Says:

If Larry freakin English can do that to the Bucs line then Joe will be drinking heavily during the Houston game against Watt

  9. Buc1987 Says:

It’s training camp. That’s what it’s for…to train and get better. Joe is just showing one play out of many and you guys read into it as, well same old crap o-line. One freaking play does not make a season or even one regular season game.

  10. Ski-Bucs Fan Says:

I was there and saw it first hand. English was almost at a full stop before Jameis let it fly. If that was in a game Jameis would have been flattened before he could throw. This is Training Camp afterall!!

  11. richbucsfan Says:

Regardless if it is training camp, the O-line is dreadful and Winston will not make it past Game 3.

  12. Buccfan37 Says:

Doom and gloom hangs in the air. This O line couldn’t block their momma’s. Jameis will be on crutches at best. Glennon will be wrapped into a pretzel. Woe is me.

  13. Supersam Says:

I didn’t see much of anything, in fact it was Dotson who got blown up in the play, not Donovan Smith.

  14. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

I look at like this most so-called experts say the cowboys have the best O line in the league. Maybe so but I saw Romo get sacked on more than one occasion.

I am glad Larry English has finally woke up and started turning on his after burners. He probably got upset being placed on third string in the charts. We need all our DEs to give their best to help train Smith. I have said from the start that Smith is a powerful stud in the run game but I wasn’t sure his pass blocking is good enough for LT in the pros. His best position would be RG, and Dotson should have been left at LT and Smith should have been tried at RT to begin with. I would be pleased if Smith turns out to get his pass blocking shored up and make a great LT for a decade, but so far he isn’t showing that in live action. He still is starter material; maybe just not at Tackle. Marpet is already showing amazing improvement at RG and is going to definitely be a starter, though I believe Center is his best position. EDS can play at Guard since he is a good run blocker. With all the improvement and leadership from Mankins our OL will be much better than last year. But it will be a work in progress for awhile. Be patient and be glad our Offensive Skill Players are really great.

  16. Supersam Says:

Haha oops sorry joe, I read the article wrong.

  17. bucsbedabest Says:

Joe can we see the 40 videos of Dotson and Smith blocking the DE and not allowing them close to Winston? Dotson is a stud and so will be Smith. I support the OL.
