(Unofficial) Training Camp For Jameis

July 22nd, 2015
No rest for Jameis.

No rest for Jameis.

While the first practice of training camp isn’t until a week from Saturday, where if Joe is properly positioned he will smell the cheerleaders’ sweat, training camp essentially has started for “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston.

Yesterday, in a BSPN panel that included USA Today NFL columnist Jarrett Bell, NFL scribe Field Yates, former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik and former Bucs commander Greg Schiano, Bell had interesting news to break.

Bell shared that Jameis already has several of his offensive teammates working out with him in the Tampa Bay area. Bell was not specific where these workouts were held, but they began yesterday. Bell said and noted these unofficial workouts were similar to what Jameis was doing recently in Tallahassee.

There, using Florida State University’s football facilities, Winston led drills with receivers Mike Evans and Louis Murphy, among others.

On face value, Joe applauds this. It shows the leadership of Jameis that we all heard about lo’ these many months. But further thought gives Joe the shivers.

The last two quarterbacks to host private workouts with offensive teammates during the offseason? That would be leaky, sleepy Josh Freeman and turnover-prone Josh McClown.

God help us.

Man, don’t even think like that, little less say it out loud.

  2. Waterboy Says:

Did ASJ decide to show up this time to get a little extra work in?

  3. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

No worries Joe,soon you’ll see the young man is just on another level bro. Gotta love this s@$! man, from a putting in extra work standpoint he gets it. That’s comforting to me,and provides me with a since of football joy knowing this is only the beginning. 3:13m.e. in a WINSton time zone fan.

  4. ChessMaster Says:

Freeman and McClown needed more than a week of extra work. They both needed a 40+ hour a week non-stop off season to even be average.

  5. Phil Says:

Jameis is just getting himself and team mates ready to hit the ground running when training camp starts. Can’t wait.

Cue the Roadrunner’s “Beep Beep” and don’t ever look back

  7. Harry Says:

A lot of QBs do this now, so I don’t think there is any relevance to Free and McCown. But what I did wonder was the relevance to Glennon. Where is MG8 in this? Is The QB of the Future, and The QB of the Past, no longer The QB of the Present?! Heaven forbid the remaining 3 members of the MOB are cheated once again! Poor Realist. Next thing ya know L&L will make a trade to bring back Franchise DE Clayborn! Lmao

  8. University of Seffner Says:

I wonder if Jameis dropped those 8 pounds he said he wanted to lose.

  9. Jason McLaurin Says:

It’s great to see Winston putting in the work with the wideouts this offseason. Im thinking this recent session included the offensive line to further gain communication and chemistry and fire up some barbecue for Mankins.

  10. pick6 Says:

they were also the last 2 QBs to go into the season as the starting QBs for the bucs. by that logic, bucs fans should also dread having a starting QB

  11. Tom S. Says:

It is ironic that the workouts for Freeman seemed to be the beginning of the end of his career (16 TD’s 22 INT’s that season). But let’s assume that a few outside/lifestyle factors were a bigger reason to his fall than a few extra practices.

  12. DamnImFameis Says:

and F$#@ Revis by the way….

  13. Tut Says:

My concern is that they wont appoint him as the starter before the 1st preseason game… I don’t want to see him behind our backup O-line going against players fighting for a roster spot on the other team. These off time workouts are great for team building.

  14. The Buc Realist Says:

The word on the street back then was that there were several players that had called and had to drag freeman to those “hosted private workouts”. But the Gm and local media at that time covered and gave the credit (wrongly) to J-Fro!!!

  15. Mo_Downs Says:

Winning over the team is the first step. I’m more concerned about the OL.

  16. BuccaneEric75 Says:

    Realist, I believe it.

  17. Pickgrin Says:

What hasn’t JW3 done right this off season? Everything he has done and said is exactly what you would hope and want to see. This kid gets it!

Can’t wait to see that talent flash on the field…. Jameis may not tear up the league as a rookie – but we are going to see plenty this year to indicate he will ultimately be the star QB at this level that we all hope for.

  18. unbelievable Says:

If people remember correctly, freeman was holding those workouts himself during the lockout season, etc., long before his sudden weight loss and complete meltdown.

This is what young good QBs need to be doing to get better, build chemistry, and get it more practice time with the new cab rules. As for mccown, well he was hot garbage so he needs all the practice he can get!

  19. unbelievable Says:

    *cba rules. Damn autocorrect

  20. OAR Says:

Wow professional football players practicing football in the offseason….who would have thunk it!

Agree completely Pickgrin. And as a former Mariota supporter I’m late to the bandwagon. But I agree with you and so I’m totally on board now.
