Under heat.
When training camp begins a week from Saturday, it will be hot. No kidding, it is Florida.
But no, not just that. Bucs fans will be singed from the heat coming from “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston.
That’s the word from Taylor Swift-listening, pickpocket-thwarting, Bucs-uniform-frowning, Allie-LaForce-smitten, Big-Ten-Network-hating, pedestrian-bumping, olive oil-lapping, popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried-chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, circle-jerking, beer-chugging, cricket-watching, scone-loathing, college football-naïve, baseball-box-score-reading, NPR-honk, filthy-hotel-staying, fight-instigating, barista-training Peter King, of Sports Illustrated and NBC Sports fame. King, writing for his site, theMMQB.com, picks the person with each team under the most heat this season.
Tampa Bay: Jameis Winston, quarterback. I like the fact that Dirk Koetter, Winston’s offensive coordinator and quarterback-whisperer, is apparently going to be tough on his little mistakes. Winston can’t be as careless with the picks as he was last year at Florida State.
While Joe doesn’t dismiss Jameis’ picks, at the end of the day, he won, right?
When the heat was on most late in games, Jameis came through. Time and again. That tells Joe that Jameis wasn’t reckless with the ball.
Jameis is a gunslinger. And as Mike Tomlin once said about Ben Roethlisberger, “Gunslingers sometimes get shot.” Joe believes that will be the case with Jameis.
Yes, we saw turnover-prone Josh McClown cough up a lot of balls last year. Difference is, McClown had no chance to bring the team back.
Jameis has never led any NFL team to a win (yet). At least in college, he showed week after week he has the stones to do it, even in a national championship game.

Right on Joe. Look at QB’s like Favre, Romo, Big Ben, Drew Brees. They all are/were top of their game. Like you said before Matty Ice threw a TON of INT’s at BC before coming to the dixie chicks, so did Peyton Manning at Tenn. All I know is, if they get any decent play from the O line, the kid will have a productive first year. With Dirk, VJax, Godzilla, and a healthy ASJ, look out.

It must really pain you everyday knowing America’s Head coach Lovie Smith is the General of this team. A position I’ll continue adding he’ll be holding down atleast ten years. I must not be paying close enough attention. I never noticed The Buc Realist being negative before Joe told him he was one of his favorite posters. Maybe I’m wrong. On the heat of summer taking it’s toll, you can’t count out refreshing rain at any time. The past 5 days have been cloudy and rainy over here in Pinellas county, my kind of weather. Prior to that all we had was oppressive heat for a month and a half, no rain. Love these rainy days and nights.

Jameis may not light the NFL on fire as a rookie – and interceptions are inevitable – but we will see tons of “WOW” plays and examples of why he was drafted #1 overall and what he will become in time. “IT” will be on display and for this year – that will likely have to be enough….
2 more good drafts and this team will be ready to compete for Super Bowls.

If our offense really turns the corner and Jameis makes Koetter look like the man (which i believe he will), I think the best thing for the TEAM during or after the season, would be to name Koetter the Assistant Head Coach and pay him close to head coach money.

**Dream Squence**
Jameis is on the sideline arguing with Lovie, he takes the field and scores a TD. Lovie looks at him with disappointment as he did NOT want to score. Jaboo begins a rebellion against lovie ball and leads the bucs to an 8-0 start. Meanwhile Lovie is furious that his rookie qb won’t listen to him so he resigns bc Winston is winning too many games. Oh and he takes Frazier with him.

McClown’s INT’s were so aggravating because they usually could have been avoided by either eating the ball or throwing it away.
I can take an INT if is the result of a good play by the opponent, but a good deal of his came when he just heaved the ball up instead of taking the sack.
His fumbles were usually the result of his careless ball protection.
I do find it odd that hardly anyone mentions Mariota’s fumbling record incollege.
He may get away with that in college but not in the NFL.
Also, the last place he will want to be in the NFL is at the bottom of a pile trying to recover a fumble where it is a known fact all types of unimagineable forms of human dedregation occur

its true, I was a perfect gentleman before that comment!!! Seriously though I will be more at easy once the Bucs become competitive again!!! right now we have to fix a lot of the problems and just saying things like “they are due to be good” and ” they were in every game” like blind cheerleaders is not my style!!!

Fameis forced passes in college because HE COULD! His talent level was so superior to his competion on most Saturdays that he correctly surmised that he could get away with most of those gambles and if he got burnt he believed he could overcome the results of any mistake. And HE COULD! But that was college.
Fameis will prosper in the NFL as quickly as he can listen to Koetter about ints and as quickly as he sees the difference in NFL talent. He simply won’t be able to get away with many of the gambles he made in college.
After seeing his interviews, and those of others, I think Fameis gets that. He’s a smart kid and he’ll pick up on the fact that he has to become more judicious with his choices. I believe he’ll do it by the end of the preseason. He’ll still toss some ints because of the learning curve of that NFL speed but I believe he’ll pick it all up pretty quickly.

Curtis…your obsession with all things Winston leads me to belive you need to check yourself into Charter. If you can’t get help at Charter get help somewhere.
I have family that works at the Circle K off Himes and they tell me that Lovie Smith gets his coffee there every morning. Lovie told them that Winston’s going to be the starter on opening day.
