Bucs Must Take Down Drew Brees

Drew Brees has simply torched the Bucs like no other quarterback.

To be the best you have to beat the best. Those are the immortal words of Ric Flair. They also ring true in the NFL.

For the Bucs to ever get over the hump and start contending for playoff berths or — gasp! — a division title, they must bring down the king. And in the NFC South, that is Drew Brees.

As the numberscrunchers like to say, when the NFL goes into slumber mode of July, it’s time to do research. And so Chase Stuart has.

The man behind the website FootballPerspective.com decided to find just what teams are burned by a certain player time and again. In the case of the Bucs, that man is the Saints ‘star quarterback.

In 19 games facing the Bucs, Brees has thrown for 5,786 yards. That’s an average — an average, folks — of 304 yards a game. That is just ridiculous.

As much as the Bucs have beefed up their offense, and for good reason, it still boils down to the Bucs finding a way to stop Brees. Otherwise, the Bucs will be hard-pressed to win a division title.

I really dont like Drew Brees….especially after all the crying he did about Dashon Goldson and how he hit.

Nothing would make me happier than seeing Brees cry because he just got sandwiched between GMC and Melton…….

Oh, the thought gives me goosebumps…..

  2. Buccfan37 Says:

I get more enjoyment out of the Bucs beating the Saints than beating any other team. Those Brees passing yard totals and per game are sickening. These Bucs will have to end his reign. A few tough sacks will help get it done.

  3. unbelievable Says:

Agreed, I really lost respect for Brees when he was crying about Goldson, or crying about that hit from AC that was completely legal! I’ve seen him call other teams dirty as well. Last time I check, YOU were on the team found guilty of Bountygate!

What a douche. I hope we crush the aints this year and Brees has to leave the game.

  4. StPeteBucsFan Says:

At least he’s not going to have Jimmy Graham this year.

You’re right Stpete, and something tells me that will make a difference.

No One freaking out yet as to why Ed Glazer purchased two estates worth a total of $36 million in Los Angeles?

    So?

  9. Tampa Tony Says:

No Graham will help. But with no pass rush since Simeon was cut and the very passive system Lovie runs teams are gonna carve this d up.

  10. Stanglassman Says:

Actually Brees had a really bad ’14 vs the Bucs especially the 1st game. He had 3 TDs, 6 Int, 2 sack with a bunch of hits/hurries in the games.
A combined QBR of 66 for ’14 season vs Bucs.

    This quote was reminiscent.

  11. Stanglassman Says:

I thought for many years Ed has been based out of LA, Brian-Tampa and Joel London.

  12. WS99 Says:

More concerned about the panthers than anyone else. Rivera has his defense on point. Olsen apparently can not be stopped and their two receivers may give the dunkaneers a run for their money. Plus I think they won the conference two years in a row.

Pretty sure Joel lives in Palm Beach at the family compound there.

The Glazer’s are in the real estate business. So what? Each one buys some of their own and sells.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

From what I gathered Saints fans are some of the most obnoxious fans in the NFL when it comes to the Bucs. Yes everyone knows Eagles fans hold that title, but Bucs vs Saints just seems to bring out the obnoxious in Saints fans. So I loathe Saints fans with there idiotic Who Dat Ebonics. Speak English or continue to segregate yourselves from the rest of the country. Just got back from a resort in Orlando. Ebonics was the main language used while I was there.

Yikes did I just say that? Yes that includes Famous Jameis.

Brees is a whole nother matter………………..CRY BABY!

  17. Owlykat Says:

And last year our slow MLB couldn’t cover the middle. Can’t wait to see Carter shutting down that middle this year! Our Defense knows how to play Lovie’s Tampa Two this year. Bring on the Saints!!!

  18. Buc1987 Says:

    Owly…I hope you’re right!

Those stats are just what stock trader chartists sell for big $$$. And all it is history. Get with the program dudes, it’s all and only about the new season! Forget the past, analyze the now and the results to be. Support the future and —on the stats of opponents.

  20. LargoBuc Says:

When teams took away the Saints running game last year, it was really the first time we saw rees struggle to carry the offense. Sure, the numbers were there. But he just seemed to lack that killer instict last year. If we stay patient and the back seven keeps everything in front, then hopefully the front four gets going and we force Brees to make an impatient mistake, we can win. Make them settle for three.

  21. Buc-A-New Says:

I think we are gonna be better than most do this yr. It’s not homerism, it is just all of the nicely aligned “prove-it” deals.

  22. The Real Malloy Says:

agreed buc a new….we’re under the radar, we have a bad ass new OC, and we have a proven HC with a young team ready to pounce! We will shock America this year!! (Yes, im still celebrating the 4th…what of it?)

  23. Buc-A-New Says:

    Keep Celebrating Malloy!!!
Many fought for us to celebrate this weekend!!
    Go Bucs!!

  24. Buc1987 Says:

The Bucs will win the division in 2016!

  25. LakelandBuc Says:

Raheem had success against the Saints and the Falcons.

  26. bucsbedabest Says:

In the first game vs the Aints the Bucs had an 11 point lead in the 4th and the Aints scored 18 unanswered points. Brees went 57 for 35 for 371 YDS, 2 TD and 3 INT. What killed the Bucs in the 4th was Brees passing to P. Thomas over the middle along with critical penalties on Dotson, Glennon (delay of game, which led to a safety), Gilkey and Mankins. The other glaring problem was every time the Bucs punted they would be lucky to get 40 yards. In OT Banks had a 3rd down penalty for illegal use of hands which gave the Aints a first down. Then they just ran the ball all the way to score. Bucs only gave up one sack. In the second meeting the Bucs had a 20-7 lead in the 4th and the Aints scored 16 unanswered points. Brees went 38-21 for 281 YDS, 1 TD, 3 INT. Bucs gave up 3 sacks, more penalties and Brees passing short over the middle killed us. In the end it looks like we have Brees number, the Bucs must learn how to hold on to a lead, stop the penalties and get Kwon to cover over the middle if that continues to be a problem. Oh yea, get a new punter!

  27. Buc1987 Says:

    ^^^Koenan is a serious problem.

  28. bucs4lyfe Says:

most of that is the two years greg schiano came in and had the worst pass defenses in nfl history even with darelle revis in his camp lol

  29. Fsuking Says:

The Saints got rid of “bucs linebacker ruining ” Jimmy Graham and Drew Brees is declining. I like our chances so long as Leonard Johnson is on the sidelines. I still remember telling my friend on the final Saints drive “watch they are gonna throw it to Colston” as Leonard lined up in front of him.
