Rarely do three of the game’s best at a position leave college at the same time.
But damn, Joe is glad one of those, Gerald McCoy, is on the Bucs, thanks to former rock star general manager Mark Dominik.
McCoy is in an elite group with fellow 43 defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh and Geno Atkins — the best defensive tackles the statgeeks at Pro Football Focus have ever seen.

The difference? Three times Atkins has been in the playoffs. Suh? Twice. GMC? He’s still looking for his first playoff appearance. Not since his rookie season has GMC played on a winning NFL team.
Joe thinks it is high time the Bucs do something about this.

Winners and losers. For some reason their are players that always seem to be in the right place at the right time, and there are those who don’t. GMC has never “taken over” or dominated for more than a game. Who knows why, but he lacks the “it” that Warren Sapp had. Just like people saying that Rusell Wilson does not deserve big $, what!? The team wins with Wilson, pay him. Lucky for us, Winston is a winner. Maybe his enthusiasm and leadership can negate all the negativity on our team and we can win.

I have never made a comment on GMC. I read the yin and yang of opinions, yet I can’t come to a conclusion on how to judge his play. Call me baffled.

Please do not give former rock star general manager Mark Dominik any credit for drafting GMC. GMC and Suh were considered the best DT in the draft and it was a no brainer to pick him. I remember I wanted the Bucs to trade Detroit both of our second round picks to move up and get Suh. As for the comment tat GMC never dominated for more than a game. You do not go to three consecutive Pro Bowls if you never dominate for more than a game. 2013 was his most dominating year when he recorded a PRP of 80. The hiighest score for a DT in the past decade. I would say that his performance clearly takes over and dominates. We are lucky o have an elite player of GMC caliber and it is time this year for him to how everyone the player he is when we make the playoffs this year.

I’m still waiting for anyone of consequence to say GMC isn’t a great player. I’m trying to find any award he hasn’t received. I’m waiting to find one OC who doesn’t mention him first when discussing our defense. I’m pretty sure these people exist, because we’ve got a genius on this here website who swears he is the beneficiary of a flawed voting system. I mean, I’m sure with our huge national fan base, he only got voted to the Pro Bowl because he’s on such a popular, winning team. As for the All-Pros, obviously the powers that be have never watched him play. He was second team all pro last year, which according to some means he’s like a Pro Bowl alternate. As for landing #28, once again he’s the product of a flawed voting system, because not all the players vote. He probably payed the ones that did to put his name so high. I’m just waiting on any evidence that any of this nonsense is true. Then perhaps I will change my opinion.

Way to burn the idiots Hawaiian! : ) Bucs fans are so clueless on what constitutes a great player. They credit Sapp but Sapp had very good DE’s playing with him. We’ve had squat. McCoy has done so much with so much less. If we get a good edge rush McCoy will be the best DT to ever wear a Bucs uniform.

Sometimes the stars simply need to align properly. Sapp had great DE’s as well as solid DT’s playing next to him.
I thought McDonald had a good season last year considering…Melton…I think we now have some strong players up the middle to complement GMC.
If Smith and the outside boys can provide edge rush GMC will be that much more effective.
Could be that this is the season it all comes together from GMC thanks in no small part to the improved supporting cast around him.

Just because you have 5 good players on a team that went 2-14 doesn’t erase the fact that the overall team is $hitty. But through your eyes since the YUCS have the almighty #93 that doesn’t apply because he has pro bowls and top 100 nominations. So to answer your last question. NO. My point is the same as it has always been: it is dumb to criticize our best player (best players, which include guys like Jackson, David, Evans, and hopefully Winston), because they aren’t the reason we have sucked. I understand this team is bad, and I’m not happy with it. I’m not satisfied in any form with this team. But McCoy isn’t the problem. Period. If you can’t understand that, then we are just on different wavelengths.
