Jameis Winston > Russell Wilson?
July 3rd, 2015Most NFL observers cannot imagine the Seahawks walking away from Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson, who already is making noise he should be one of the top-paid quarterbacks in the NFL.
The guy is young, he’s uber-talented, and the worst he has ever done is get his team two wins away from a Super Bowl.
That’s not too shabby. Of the quarterbacks under 30 years old, many believe only Andrew Luck is Wilson’s superior.
Prickly Pete Prisco of CBS Sports is not one of those guys. While he admits Wilson is a good quarterback, Prisco believes Wilson is grossly overrated. In fact, if Prisco were a general manager of an expansion franchise and had his pick of quarterbacks under-30, Prisco would be more inclined to select “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, to lead his franchise.
That’s what Prisco told good guy Peter Schrager of FOX Sports in Schrager’s weekly podcast.
“I’m a big Winston guy,” Prisco said. “For the long run of my franchise, the way I like my game to be played, I would probably take him over Russell Wilson. I don’t want my quarterback running! I would never take [Colin] Kaepernick. I would never take [Robert Griffin] RGIII. I want my quarterback standing in the pocket making the throws.”
Whoa! That’s pretty heady stuff. Jameis over Wilson, a guy that has enjoyed nothing but great success in the NFL since he was drafted? Damn, that is impressive.
Schrager, who is based in Manhattan, also said when he was at FOX Sports headquarters in Los Angeles recently for meetings and assignments, he and other football types sat around discussing the best quarterbacks under 30 not named “Andrew Luck.” Schrager noted he was taken aback how many said they would take Jameis.

I’ve never bought the Russell Wilson hype either. He’s an average quarterback playing with the most talented team in the NFL, a team that loves to run the ball and play defense.
Take Lynch off of that roster, and they’d be in trouble. Seattle would be crazy to sign him to a top five quarterback deal.
And that has nothing to do with whether or not Winston hits it big (I think he will, though).

Not one mention of Mariota who happens to be another running QB.

Wilsons best quality is his leadership, and then his football IQ. Talent wise he doesn’t have great speed or throwing arm, but he can rally his troops and lead them down the field. He Inspires his team which makes them play better around him. That’s what makes Wilson so great. It’s what makes any good about into a great one.
I believe Winston has those same Qualities. He will be great, as long as he continues to work hard the other stuff comes naturally to him.

Before I even read the article I must ask why we are comparing JW to the most winning QB in his first Three years EVER

Here is Russell Wilson vs Matt Ryan head to head.
I will take RW all day long.

Come on Buc-A-New JW “America’s QB” was drafted haven’t you got the Messiah/Savior memo yet?
Mr. Winston may grow to be the Best QB ever! Yet as of today he has not played “1” meaningful snap in the NFL. I get it we hope he comes out and competes and sets the NFL on fire. Maybe then we could compare Mr. Winston to any of the QB’s who have played real snaps in the NFL. Then here is a concept Mr. Winston actually earns the name “America’s QB”
Always SSDD around here! and everyday I come back.
Thanks Joe’s
Go Bucs

I love hearing this! I’m very excited to watch him play. I’m very concerned about him gaining 7 pounds in a matter of a couple months. I realize a lot of people just write that off as nothing but that is a big red flag. I’m a Winston guy and was happy as hell when he was drafted just hope he can stay in football shape.

Get a good job with more pay and you’re okay. Winston having not taken a pro snap that counts makes the answer unknown. I agree Wilson aint all that. He fits in there with a good surrounding cast. I am anxious Winston meets the expectations laid out in front of him.

One huge Diff between JW and RW.
JW was drafted first overall and will practically be given his position.
RW was drafted in the third and went to a team that just paid big $ to a Top FA QB and he TOOK his position.
I am all in on JW but to start knocking RW because he is an aw andesome game manager and competitor and saying JW is better when he hasn’t taken a snap in the NFL is just silly.
One is proven
One is not.

This one deserved a repost, I agree with this! Sometimes people only focus on the measurables and don’t consider the X factor(s).
Some guys just have that IT factor to help push and make the guys around them better. When you look at the group of WR’s that Wilson had to work with last season I don’t know if any of those guys would be starting on most other NFL teams.

The only thing these two have in common outside of football is baseball.
Crossing my fingers the other thing is a winning mentality @ the pro level.

If Seattle called and said “We’ll trade you Wilson straight up for Winston and throw in Lynch” The answer would be HELL NO!!!!

Love that Wilson was able to win his job and neVer looked back. I don’t think he is worth a top QB contract. I believe he is vastly overRated.

Maybe Pete missed that draft where EVERY COACH thought exactly the way Prisco did…and then watched Russell Wilson SMOKE and SMITE them for three years, in as many Superbowl runs…and at least one ring in the process.
Pete should ask Winston to show him his Superbowl ring, ‘cuz I think Pete may be thinking of something else Winston likes to show off…

What makes Russell Wilson so good is simple. He finds a way to win. He is a winner. His ability to transition, no matter what the situation. Wilson oozes a certain something that makes coaches quickly fall in love with him, and players follow his lead. He’s an overachiever who is fueled by an ardent self-belief and thrives on the doubts of others. You see he has that class about him, that calmness. You can see where his team gravitates to his leadership.
The same applies to Jameis Winston.
