Report: Bucs Snubbed By Dan Connolly

Fresh news on the Bucs and Dan Connolly

The man who seized barbecue duties for the Super Bowl champs after Logan Mankins arrived at One Buc Palace gave the Bucs a thumbs down.

That’s the word from Patriots beat writer Mike Reiss, of ESPN. He explained that right guard Dan Connolly, who turns 33 before opening day was wooed by the Bucs but turned them down.

Here is my understanding of what is happening with free-agent veteran guard Dan Connolly: The Buccaneers made a strong pitch to him, enticing him about the possibility of again playing alongside Logan Mankins, but Connolly’s reluctance to uproot/be away from his family was the primary factor that led him to decline that option.

Joe talked to Connolly when he was courted in Tampa by the Bucs in April. Joe also talked to him at length in Phoenix at Super Bowl Media Day, when Joe snapped the photo above.

Yeah, he is a nearly washed up lineman, but Connolly was intriguing because many Patriots types considered him their best lineman. And he had started many games at center in his career. So it was reasonable to think he could help keep Jameis Winston out of a body bag.

Joe can’t help wondering why if the Bucs wanted to add a veteran offensive lineman, then why haven’t they?

Joe expects to answer that question a little later this afternoon.

You weren’t really taking a pic of Dan Connolly, were you, Joe?

What’s your take on the available free-agent OL still out there? Do any of them still have enough gas in the tank to contribute to our OL depth?

  2. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I’d rather have guys who want to be here. Players his age that want to win will look elsewhere.

  3. The Buc Realist Says:

Why haven’t they??? because other free-agents were snubbing them as well!!!!

how come everytime I read about “Mankins the bar-b-que master” I picture him not paying attention and burning the chicken and not flipping the dried out ribs!!

  4. Svenson Says:

Looks like he may retire. I am not sure if that constitutes a “snub.” I would have been happy with the signing, but if the goal is for Marpet to eventually be the guy, perhaps going with him early is the best route.

  5. WS99 Says:

Yea the headline should read -snubbed by every starter in the league including former players like Jared Allen, Julius peppers, Devon Hester, etc.-

But hey at least we were able to sign Chris Conte. YEY!!! Talk about a baller a difference maker. SB here we come! Lmao

It’s funny BucRealist, but every time I think of you I picture a geeked out bitter old man who still lives with his mommy in some backwoods WVa. Trailer park waiting for his mom to serve him her home made Campbell’s Tomato soup for lunch.

That’s some sharp snark there. Poor Bucrealist. Snark is best when it’s creative and so that was a pretty good blast.

  8. Bucnjim Says:

You can’t blame some of these guys who have extremely short careers. By the young age of 28-30 their playing days are almost over. Do you play for a team who has been the red headed step child for the past 10 years or do you go with a franchise who just continues to reload year after year. The Bucs organization has made more mistakes than Pee Wee Herman @ a XXX movie. We have gone from laughing stock to playoff contender back to laughing stock. Sad but how about we get back to having professionals run this team!

  9. Buc1987 Says:

drdneast…2 years ago I likened Realist to Oscar the Grouch on Sesame St.

Pops is head out of the can and always has something grouchy to say.

  10. Sick of the Wait Says:

A good indicator here is that Bilicheat gets everything he can out of his players. If he isnt resigning or at least offered a new contract, then I say stay clear. Hes done.

  11. BuccaneEric75 Says:

    Yup, Sick, no more Patriots!

  12. Brandon Says:

More responsible reporting would have added that Connelly also snubbed the Seahawks. Let the negative pessimists chew on that one a little while.
