A wanted man?
For those clinging to the notion Bucs quarterback of the past and quarterback of the future and maybe quarterback of the present Mike Glennon will start Week 1, despite “America’s Quarterback,” Jameis Winston being healthy, Joe has a dose of reality for you:
No less an authority than the august website Pro-Football-Reference.com, claims the last No. 1 overall pick to sit Week 1 of his rookie season was the notorious JaMarcus Russell of the Raiders.
It’s really difficult for Joe to believe the shot-callers at One Buc Palace went through the public hell they caught for wooing Jameis and will come to the sober conclusion that a guy who they deemed couldn’t start regularly for a 2-14 team is the best way to go. Especially after conducting what the team claims to be the most exhaustive research of any player in franchise history.
Glennon would be a fantastic backup. However, is that a luxury the guy who coached the Bucs to that horrid 2-14 can afford? Joe imagines the Bucs ought to be able to pluck a third-round pick from a quarterback-desperate team for Glennon.
Enter Matt Williamson of BSPN. He believes Glennon could be a credible starter with the right team. And we all know that teams are pining for a decent quarterback.
At just 25, Glennon remains an intriguing prospect. Like Winston, Glennon entered the league coming from a pro-style system at North Carolina State. Certainly not a plus-athlete or superb runner, Glennon is a pure pocket passer with the height (6-foot-6) and arm strength required to succeed in such a role. Not hyper-accurate, he needs work as an anticipatory passer, but he’s shown an ability to drive the ball down the field without making too many mistakes. (His 2.4 percent interception rate since 2013 ranks 14th overall and is on par with Drew Brees and Matt Ryan, among others.)
In fact, Williamson believes five teams are perfect fits for Glennon. Those include Arizona, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland and the Giants.
What?
Joe has no idea why people are so down on Andy Dalton. All he does it get teams to the playoffs. He has led the Bengals to the postseason every year he has been in the NFL. Bucs fans would do cartwheels down Central Avenue if Jameis pulls that off.
The Giants? Well, as Williamson points out, Eli Manning is 35 and his contract is up. The Giants just may wave goodbye. Hard to believe, but hey, the NFL is a business.

I don’t see the Giants letting Manning go. And like you said, Joe, I don’t get the Dalton hate. But most of all, why are the Bills not on this list?? Glennon would be a PERFECT fit in Buffalo. He could actually be the difference on whether the Bills make the playoffs. He would have plenty of playmakers there to get the ball to, and all he has to do is not turn it over, which he excels at. Call Rex NOW!!!

“Completion”? Really?! Ok, dream your dream. It’s not even close. Sorry, but the best thing MG8 can give the Bucs is a trade for a 3rd rd pick so we can fill some major holes. If Winston were to go down then our season is over anyway so we are better off improving our draft position with a Matt Cassell/McCown type of backup.

Since Licht will not get some OL help in FA, trade Glennon for a starting tackle or guard. It is looking lie Marpet will not start opening day which leaves the ever bumbling Gilkey. One does not want to protect the almighty with a bench warming cast off from Cleveland?

Arizona makes the most sense. Carson Palmer is not reliable due to age and injury and Glennon would be an upgrade over Skelton and Logan Thomas.
However I would not part with Glennon unless they gave us a first and a third round pick in next years draft…
Then I would draft ALL defense with the first five picks… Two first rounders, a second round and two third rounders would all be DEs, Safeties, Linebackers and corners…
If we couldn’t get a great deal I would not trade him… We is currently too valuable given our current situation…

I love this idea – it might get the Bucs more value then a draft choice in 2016.
Also, I have given this some thought, I do not understand why L&L did not draft AJ Cann instead of Marpet. At first, I liked the choice of Marpet, his alleged upside, the stones on Licht, etc. But even if Ali Marpet turns into a super stud, the Bucs are NOT in a position to take such risks with a 2nd rd pick; a 2nd rd pick on a 2-14 team should be a starter, not a “prospect”. Jameis needs someone who can play NOW. Not be a stud in 3 years.

a third round pick for a starting nfl qb? this is the kind of IDIOTIC thinking that results in a team being 2-14. no less than 2 nd rounder ( preferably a first ). if not , then we just keep the nfl’s best back-up qb. also, once we do trade him , who steps in for an injured Winston should that occur. oh , I know , let’s go spend 4-5million for a washed up veteran qb. good to see you’ve thought this thru jb’s. next topic please.

Trading Glennon this season would be a very stupid move. Keep him this year, show him off in the preseason, and then trade him in the off season.

Glennon isn’t going to get us enough. Really, as much as I would hate to see him go, the smart money would be to trade Gerald McCoy. We could get 3 #1s for him. That would be more than worth it.

Better off keeping Glennon. This year. If Dirk sees potential in him, sign an extension. If he proves out, the demand could be high.
And frankly, I’m not 100 percent convinced Jameis will work out. Having Glennon would at least give us time to replace him if needed.

If, as I’ve read elsewhere, Koetter wanted Glennon kept here then he isn’t going anywhere at least not this year so you might get as well get off your let’s trade Glennon kick Joe, it’s getting old.

Last I heard all teams need a good backup QB. We bitched all last year about backup QB’s beating us. Teams have ’em for a reason. If you have a good one you hold on to them. With our O-line the odds are we’ll need a stable of QB’s. Glennon isn’t going anywhere. If we trade him we’re fools and more than likely he’ll go on to perform like every other QB we traded in the past that fans thought were terrible.

I am on the fence with this one. If we can trade Glennon at the appropriate time and especially if we could get a 3rd round pick, that would be enticing since he was a 3rd rounder for us. We would obviously need to find and adequate veteran to back Winston. I guess it is going to come down to what the best business decision is at the time.

Gettin a third round pick for MG is probably a reach unless some teams QB goes down, as has been mentioned. If he got the chance and did play well for the Bucs, that would be too much for the anti MG8 mob to handle.

This all stems from Winston not being given all the first team reps during underwear football. America’s General is unsure what Lovie will do when camp starts? The only clue he gave is when he said when they come back where they are is when it will matter. Drink some beer and don’t lose sleep. What ever is going to happen is going to happen and none of us can change it. No matter how many times you write of trying to get rid of Glennon. Winston will get the start. Stay positive.

I believe Glennon will be a FA next year, does anybody think he will re-sign with the Bucs next year, would you and they are tossing my name out as a starter as well as have started in this league, he’s out, unfortunately the Bucs have no plan for a skilled back-up unless we sign Eli after he the G-men don’t resign him according to this article.

The draft isn’t until April. i.e. We can have him on the roster all season and still cash in on him for draft picks. He has 1 year left, and a season of hanging around coach Koetter holding a clipboard is not going to take the shine off of him. There is no reason to blink and trade him before next offseason if we didn’t do it before this draft. Next spring, Carson Palmer will be a year older, cutler will be easier to cut, the bills will be even more desperate for a QB, and the wheels are sure to come off a couple more QB situations. The QB class is supposedly weak next year. We can have a good backup this year AND the draft picks next year

Glennon is under contract with the bucs for one more season after the upcoming one. This will be his 3rd year and I believe the bucs have his rights for 4

Hopefully Glennon ends up on the Bills at some point…I’ll get to watch him light it up on my local TV station (when I’m not paying the NFL for the right to see the Bucs play 2-14 football anyway). MGM strong!
