Could new/old Bucs TE Tim Wright be the best on the roster? Ten teams wanted him.
When the Bucs plucked former tight end Tim Wright after Bill Belicheat tossed him to the curb, it was a no-brainer. A nice move by Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.
Look, the Bucs are 2-14. Any time a young guy with a ring is available, the Bucs ought to be all over him like a hungry dog on a steak.
Rick Brown, who has gone from the MSM to website Today’s Pigskin, types that one could argue Wright is the best pass-catching tight end the Bucs have.
In his rookie season, Wright was second on the team with 54 catches for 571 yards and five receiving touchdowns. While his blocking was nothing to shout about, he wasn’t shy and was willing to work at it and learn.
In 2014, Tampa Bay’s tight ends combined on 51 catches for 469 yards and two scores.
At worst, this is a safe move. Joe really likes Austin Seferian-Jenkins’ attitude (not to be confused with ‘tude). But unless proven otherwise, ASJ is injury-prone. As much as Joe likes the guy, it cannot cloud the fact that no matter how talented a player is, he cannot contribute from the hot tub.
As Brown pointed out, the Bucs were so desperate for tight ends last year due to injuries (fan favorite Luke Stocker is another hot tub All-Pro) that Oniel Cousins actually lined up at tight end. And folks wonder how the Bucs finished 2-14. Can you imagine?
Joe trusts an offensive mind like new coordinator Dirk Koetter to find ways to utilize Wright in certain schemes and plays.
Just FYI, the Bucs were not the only team who wanted Wright.

Surprising all those teams wanted him. I guess that shows how desperate the Bucs were to patch the O line when he was traded.

The Bucs have been weak at TE ever since Schiano ran Kellen Winslow off. Timmy Wright can play WR and TE that is a plus.I hope he make the final 53, he’s good enough, but is he a coach favorite?

Yeah Dan I noticed those two names putting in the bids…Atlanta and New Orleans.
Great to keep him from those two but especially New Orleans. Think the Saints might have a spot in their offense for Wright now that Graham has bolted to Seattle?

I like that we are getting deeper at a lot of positions,…adding depth. We could use more at Safety, OL, and DE. We are getting better thou…and thats a good start.

Now if he would learn how to bock just ad good as Mike Evans.
This guy is a smaller slow version of Evans and Vjax who is to light to block DL. That my freinds, is a big liability and no great asset or improvement for an OL.
get a grip. How many times have I heard the same people say Bill Belchertown doesn’t get rid of good players. Geesh.
