Gerald McCoy rarely fumbles for words. The man can talk.
But McCoy bumbled and stumbled this weekend while trying to tell the world his body is not that of a loser.
McCoy, as Joe shared this weekend, talked to an Oklahoma TV station all about the behind-the-scenes actions of Jameis Winston, as well as what McCoy is focused on this offseason.
When chatting about the physical aspect of his game, McCoy hit a mental roadblock.
“The physical part of it, you know, I’m to the point to where, you know, it’s just, I should be able to win, you know,” McCoy said.
It’s important to note that McCoy is in his prime. He’s in his Year 6 with a 27-year-old body. This is it. Right now.
Warren Sapp was 27 when he first landed on the All-Pro team, and the 1999 Bucs defense that year was sickeningly dominant. Sapp’s sixth season (2000) was his best with 16.5 sacks. He never came anywhere near that total again.
McCoy knows his time is now. Lovie Smith knows he can’t waste McCoy, which is why Lovie repeatedly said last year that it shouldn’t be so tough to succeed in edge rushing with McCoy causing havoc inside.
Joe sees the Bucs now as a six-win team for 2015. But Joe’s glad an impatient guy like McCoy (and Jameis Winston) is on the roster. That’s the Bucs only chance to snap their horrible funk. Players have to stop accepting losing and second-rate effort.

The Bucs and McCoy unfortunately have been losers his whole career. But when Lovie took over they became #1 Losers! Thank goodness that the Bucs got that “Real NFL Coach”!!!!

Warren Sapp accrued 10+ Sacks in 4 different seasons, and in 1999 Sapp got 12.5 sacks: that is pretty close, right Joe? 🙂
Wow, I hope GMC can get to 10 sacks this season, I don’t see any other Buccaneer getting close, unless Lavonte David is allowed to freelance….

I think that um, right about now is you know, what I mean is that I should you know, somehow after the past few seasons you know, at this point in my experience um, I have been posting comments you know, for a few seasons and um, I should be a better um you know, I should be a winning blogger.

Poor guy. I mean he hasnt had the best of luck with head coaches. Morris was a DB coach who was way in over his head. Then things hit rock bottom with that GAP toothed B!tch from Rutgers that was in WAY OVER HEAD!
At least now he is playing for a coach that has proven he can win at this level.

Make a play in the 4th quarter to protect a late lead and maybe the team won’t lose as much with you “leading”
McCoy is a good player but he needs to up his big plays in crunch time. Or his prime years will be wasted

And Sapp had Rice at the end…..Sapp also hasnt battled through injuries like GMC. Trust me, injuries change your way of playing….you take some off at times….is what it is.

Schiano was the best coach the Bucs have had since Gruden was fired. Won 11 games in 2 years and fielded a top 10 offense in his first year. Lovie needs 9 wins to match that. No way he does that.

Hope your wrong Tony. I like McCoy but I have to agree with you. The team had some leads in the 4th quarter but couldn’t hold them. Sack a QB on third down so you can get of the field and stop your whining.

Tampa Tony, Raheem Morris won 10 games in 2010 with a bunch of waiver wire players, Gerald McCoy got hurt and didn’t finish 2010 if he had been dominant that season we would have made the playoffs. And we didn’t have NOT ONE big name free agent, Coach Rah got a bad deal from the Bucs front office and everyone around the league knew it. When the Bucs hired Schiano they was spending money like the world was coming to a end, VJAX, Carl Nicks, Eric Wright was the most expensive, and Schiano got rid of Rah players, Michael Bennett,LeGarrette Blount,Kellen Winslow,Aqib Talib,Roy Miller,Preston Pearson,and more. Then he traded a 1st and 4th for Darrelle Revis and 16 million a season, and traded Talib for a 4th rounder. So we gave the Jets Sheldon Richardson for nothing, we should have Talib and Richardson and we gave Denver a 2nd and a 3rd to move back into the first to pick Doug Martin. Schiano is not only the Bucs worst Head Coach but the worst coach in NFL history in my opinion.The 7-9 team that Schiano had was a 10 win team with decent coaching, then the fool got rid of Josh Freeman, after Josh passed for over 4,000 YDS, 27 TDS, 17 INTS, after that good season Josh had the Nutcase spend a 3rd round pick on a QB. SMH. And how many Offensive Lineman did he draft? No wonder he can’t get a coaching job, not even in Lingerie Football.

Lovie was hired to fix Schiano mess, and it may take the entire 5 years of his contract to do it.

Lakelandbuc- thanks for the revisionist history but Schiano didn’t have final say of the roster like Lovie does. So pinning a lot of Doms Mis cues on him is convenient. Rah gets a lot of respect with what he did. Schiano wasn’t great but he was the best coach this team has had post Gruden.
How much better would that secondary have been with Talib?
Not saying he was great but his first year vs Lovie’s shows how Lovie has no place being a head coach

Tampa Tony, I’m a Lovie supporter and I believe Lovie will turn things around, matter of fact i’m predicting a 10 win season this year. But I won’t give all the credit to Lovie, his staff deserves a lot of credit, especially Dirk Koetter. Dirk will turn this offense around and the defense and the offense will be clicking on all Clyinders! Dirk Koetter will be our MVP.

Lakelandbuc- I hope I am wrong and Lovie and Koetter turns this thing around as I’m sick of the losing. But 2-14 has me sour, wasting money on season tickets driving home angry has me down on this team. I’ll be a staunch advocate against Lovie until he proves me wrong. Either way Go Bucs!!!

Tampa Tony i’m a Dreadnaught, Coach Castle was promoted from Defensive Back Coach to Head Coach at Lakeland Sr High, in 1977 and we haven’t had a losing season in 39 years. We are always in the top 5 ranking every year. The Bucs are my home team and my favorite team, but something gotta give I hate losing, I believe this is our year to turn this tging around.

Good exchang between Tony and Lakeland Buc.
Here’s the deal though.
Talib was traded because of his behavior off the field. I would say 80 percent of the fans and all of the media wanted him gone.
Win slow was a cancer in Cleveland and he continued to spread it here. He was also a diva.
Raheem wanted to be everybody’s friend to the point he used to take Freeman out drinking to after hour bottle clubs as reported by the Sports Babe.
Blout was another one with a bad attitude who thought the most important letters in team was m and e.uh
And yes, someone who didn’t have a kick of football acumen, the Dummynick,was in charge of everything. OUCH.
