He’s Ba’ack!
June 12th, 2015In a shocking development, the Bucs signed former tight end Tim Wright this afternoon.
Just yesterday, Wright was cut by Bill Belicheat. Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports has the news.
Bucs claimed TE Tim Wright. The same Tim Wright they traded to the Pats last year.
— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) June 12, 2015
While Bucs coach Lovie Smith may not like Wright because he isn’t much of a blocker, Joe knows Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht likes him and maybe, just maybe, offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter has plans to use him in some unique ways.
Welcome back, Tim. Bring that Super Bowl ring and show it off.

WhenI’m saw he was released,I had a hunch. Glad to see that this season is shaping up to fix all of last years mistakes. Now the Ravens need to waive Zuttah and the Taiders Penn.
June 12th, 2015 at 4:08 pm
Never mind. There is the whole four year thing that Joe taught us about yesterday.
June 12th, 2015 at 4:10 pm
Yes! I didn’t think Lovie had it in him! Love this move.
June 12th, 2015 at 4:13 pm
Same guy here, called it when I saw he was released. Hopefully he can get used to catching balls with AIR in them. #tomShady
June 12th, 2015 at 4:16 pm
Very glad to see a guy who was productive for the Bucs come back. Glad he got his SB ring too…remind some of these guys what the hard work is all for. Bonus…yet another Rutgers alum on the team to harass the anti-Schiano crowd with 🙂

Were killing the waiver wire!
June 12th, 2015 at 4:23 pm
Obvious Lovie is not in charge this year.
June 12th, 2015 at 4:27 pm
Am I the only one confused by this move? We drafted ASJ, we have another TE on the roster who we just re-signed… Was this move THAT necessary? He was good here, in a different system and he didn’t do much in NE, what gives?
June 12th, 2015 at 4:29 pm
Yes chan I think you are.

Yes Sir all great teams and dynasty’s are built using other teams garbage. Packers, Cowboys, Steelers, 49ERS all the dynastys were built using these strategies.
Claiming other teams garbage is the best and most reliable way to build a championship team. Go Lovie Go Licht.
June 12th, 2015 at 4:33 pm
OK fair enough but who is the starter? I guess this becomes a camp battle then? I don’t mind being confused but WS99, with your superior football intellect what’s the plan with 4 TEs on the team? 2 TE sets? Is that a known wrinkle in a Koetter offense?
June 12th, 2015 at 4:36 pm
Wright is the better tight end. ASJ has done nothing for us. Draft position doesn’t win games. Good move BUCS. Hope ASJ develops time will tell
June 12th, 2015 at 4:36 pm
Goalline package:
Evans, Vjax, ASJ, Tim “if loving you is wrong I don’t wanna be” Wright, J. Lane and the Hawaiian Punch Joey Iosefa
4- 6’5″ receivers and 2 bowling balls.

you are not alone. Unless IR Stocker or ASJ go down I don’t see wright making the team. He can’t block and is a nice player but he is not a game changer. I like the WR that are competing now and don’t feel he can bring anything to the table those guys cant so unless injuries I doubt he makes the roster. It’s not like this guy has been consistently good he has had 6 or 7 good games not a huge body of work to lable him the next coming .
June 12th, 2015 at 4:41 pm
Yes WS99 with 6 eligible receivers, 5 linemen, and a qb we will be unstoppable!

How can you say that man. Mankins was one of the WORST guards in the league the LAST TWO years not just last year but the year before that as well. What makes you think he is magically going to recapture his form from 5 years ago and find two new working knees before the season. i mean is K-Mart doing a Blue Light Special on Kneees. just curious I don’t hate mankins but those are the realities he is old washed up and has no knees and we are banking on him.
June 12th, 2015 at 4:43 pm
Camp competition. Hope he can play special teams for his sake.

Wright is just using what he learned in NE. Rules are for losers. Plus Lovie has a 12 set he ran it twice last year. BAH ha ha ha
June 12th, 2015 at 4:53 pm
Another weapon for Winston!
June 12th, 2015 at 4:54 pm
Tim Wright brings with him like 80 catches and 11 TDs. I’ll take it.

Nice. never should of traded him.
June 12th, 2015 at 5:11 pm
Welcome back.
June 12th, 2015 at 5:16 pm
This is a Koetter move. Koetter saw what Glennon did so he knows he can get that and more with Winston. If this line is bad no matter who the QB he knows he has seen Glennon unload to Wright fast when needed. If Winston goes down, there is a known connection already for Glennon. I don’t think he trust ASJ to stay out of the tub if they grab him this fast
June 12th, 2015 at 5:20 pm
I see this as a Koetter move. And cutting Wright last year had much more to do with Tedford than with Lovie.
Think about it. Stocker, ASJ and Myers all can line up tight. But only ASJ naturally flexes to the hash. Wright doesn’t work in line but is fine at flex. Not an All-Star, but a useful player.
Also, I think the blocking TE will double to cover the FB role.
Not necessarily a keeper, but this episode does show there’s a new sheriff in town.
June 12th, 2015 at 5:22 pm
I liked Tim Wright and think he is a good pass catching weapon albeit not the best blocker. I do not care much for Luke Stocker though as he has really never done much to impress me and is often injured. I would take Wright over Stocker any day especially since we have ASJ who can block and catch and who has a higher ceiling than any of the other TE’s on the roster.
June 12th, 2015 at 5:22 pm
@BucFan20:
What you said.
And picking up 6 TDs a year is fine for any backup.
June 12th, 2015 at 5:31 pm
I don’t see a future here for Luke Stocker, unless the Bucs go with 4 TE’S. Timmy Wright has 80 receptions 11 TD’S in the 2 seasons that he’s been in the league, Stocker numbers are not even close, but the coaches always brag about his blocking ability. In that case make him a fullback,we need TE’S who can give us production in the passing game.
June 12th, 2015 at 5:32 pm
Personally I always viewed Tim Wright as more of a WR/TE combination player than as a pure TE … some qualities of both but not a standout at either position.
Perhaps Dirk Koetter sees a potential place in his offense for a combo player like Wright?
June 12th, 2015 at 5:48 pm
zero downside and a no-brainer. bucs ought to be claiming every player with even a smidgeon of potential. these waiver claims are taking the place of players #85-90 we would have brought to training camp so the competition improves and you have no obligation for these players to be on your final 53 unless they earn it
June 12th, 2015 at 5:50 pm
I smell some 2 tight end sets ……
June 12th, 2015 at 5:53 pm
ASJ, T. Wright, and Myers should make the roster; everyone else is on the bubble…
June 12th, 2015 at 5:58 pm
They don’t need him. What a joke TE depth is fine we need OL, DE
June 12th, 2015 at 6:10 pm
It makes sense to add a receiving TE in Koetter’s scheme. I know we have a connection to Wright, but Jermaine Gresham is also floating around out there.
June 12th, 2015 at 6:13 pm
Wright, when Aaron Hernandez was available????
June 12th, 2015 at 6:14 pm
Tim Wright is a good football player.
You cannot have too many good football players on your team.
It’s as simple as that.
🙂
June 12th, 2015 at 6:16 pm
I don’t find this shocking at all… As I said in another post – ASJ, Stocker and Myers are not going to scare any defenses…All Tim Wright does is catch touch downs… He is great in the red zone and Winston could use another 6’5″ target with soft hands…
Who will they release?
June 12th, 2015 at 6:23 pm
Stocker
June 12th, 2015 at 6:29 pm
If he stays healthy, ASJ will have a monster year in Koetter’s offense. Every other TE is a decoy or a blocker. So, if we just want to throw another big-bodied pass-catching TE on the field, why not sign Gresham?
Gresham is an even bigger target than Wright, is only a year older but has three more years’ NFL experience, and has averaged 56 catches per year to Wright’s 40.
If I have to choose between two big-target, non-blocking, inconsistent, pass-catching TEs, I choose Gresham.
June 12th, 2015 at 6:31 pm
IF
June 12th, 2015 at 6:47 pm
You can’t SIGN a guy that you claim on waivers. You take over the contract the player previously played under, which is the same one Wright came into the league with as an undrafted rookie.
June 12th, 2015 at 6:49 pm
@tmaxcon, Dude just get it over with, get yourself a lifetime supply of Midol and change your screen name to tmaxipad !!!!!!!! I didn’t realize “That time of the month” lasted forever. GO BUCS !!!!!!!

June 12th, 2015 at 7:39 pm
Welcome back Tim Wright. He made some nice catches and put up good #s his rookie year. Would have been foolish not to bring him in for another look see if NE is just going to discard him.
I think Mankins is going to make you eat those negative projections Tmax. Lovie probably will too now that he’s paired up with a GM that seems to be doing pretty well finding talent – and of course a REAL QB which Lovie has never had before. (nor the Bucs – LOL).
But then again – it IS only June – and our team looks GREAT every June…
I believe Winston and Koetter are going to be major positive difference makers for our offense this year. As long as the line improves some – The Bucs are going to win some games this year IMO.
June 12th, 2015 at 7:55 pm
He is insurance for ASJ. Timmy is a receiving red zone threat who was brought here to push ASJ…no more…no less. That being said…the more talent the better.
June 12th, 2015 at 10:25 pm
Dan Says
Wright is the better tight end. ASJ has done nothing for us.
I strongly disagree that Wright is better. I suppose absence made the heart grow stronger, because Wright really wasn’t very good while here.
Also, writing off ASJ is the dumbest thing anyone could do. WITH an OC in OTAs last year, he looked great. That OC disappeared for the season and he didn’t light things up.
Not really fair to judge him harshly yet. It was one year. Now we have a good OC. Let’s see how he improves.
June 12th, 2015 at 10:26 pm
Know what you get off waiver wires? POTENTIAL depth. Nothing more. He may not even make the final roster.
June 12th, 2015 at 10:28 pm
Depth move. Probably not bad to have depth behind a guy that hasn’t been able to stay on the field.
June 12th, 2015 at 11:59 pm
He will make the team. Heck he may have a better year than ASJ. Koeter knows how to use a pass catching tight end. Great pick up bucs
June 13th, 2015 at 1:13 am
Stocker blows. Meyers might be even worse. ASJ is an unproven second year player. Wright is our best tight end by a mile right now and it will be up to the rest to prove their worth.
Maybe this is the year we cleanse ourselves of Puke Stocker.
June 13th, 2015 at 9:16 am
he had a productive season in NE. 6 TD’s. he was solid his first year here. Good pick up for the BUCS.
