Brittle Crowell Down With Hamstring Injury
August 5th, 2009Angelo Crowell was one of the big (Joe uses the term loosely) offseason signings. He was a projected starting outside linebacker. The Bucs tossed him a non-guaranteed, one-year contract over $3 million.
Now Crowell has a significant hamstring injury, one that’s bad enough to keep him out about a week, reports the St. Pete Times.
That will put a serious dent in his hopes to establish himself as a candidate to start on the strong-side. In fact, with Geno Hayes now taking snaps there behind current first-team Quincy Black, Crowell’s status nearing a precarious position on the roster.
Considering Crowell hasn’t played a game since 2007, this is especially disturbing news though not surprising. Joe’s been pounding the drum for months that Crowell’s knee injury was far more unique and serious than what the local MSM wanted to report. Perhaps compensating for the knee led to the hamstring injury? Joe has to wonder.
It’s early. But one has to wonder how the cost-conscious heirarchy at One Buc Place will view keeping a banged up Crowell on the roster earning the big money.

What’s more bothersome is having a hamstring injury in the first week of practice – don’t these guys work out in the off season? Things like this really shouldn’t be happening – at least it wasn’t his knee…but still 🙁

At this point it is starting to look like he will be cut. Black and Hayes are playing well and Phillips and Ruud have the other 2 spots. Besides, you don’t want a high priced special teams guy who sits out half the games.

Who signed this guy anyway?
