Mike Glennon Day Is Thursday

May 27th, 2015

Glennonwide

Nothing gets the Mike Glennon Mob more excited than knowing their guy is the Buccaneers’ No. 1 quarterback.

Well, they also get all hot in the pants for the new “29-and-15” bumper stickers, representing Glennon’s touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Joe’s unsure of the availability of bumper stickers, but Joe does know Glennon will be “the man” on Thursday.

That’s when Jameis Winston will miss the final session of this week’s OTA practices at One Buc Palace. So Glennon will be top dog at practice on Thursday, leading first team sessions of 7-on-7 work and full offense/defense drills, etc.

Jameis leaves tonight to fly to the NFL Rookie Premiere, an event where the league showcases top talent and schools them on behavior and off-field decisions (pay attention, Jameis), and making good financial decisions.

This is a big year for Glennon. That might sound silly, but if Glennon bonds well with Winston and does well when/if he gets a little action, perhaps the Bucs would consider investing in Glennon long term. The more stability and quality teammates around Jameis the better.

Of course, this is where the Glennon Mob screams at Joe for not understanding that their guy is a starter who will be appreciated by another team.

ol cement feet aint no starter for anyone…

  2. tmaxcon Says:

Glennon is a fluffer an unfortunate necessity to keep things going while the star has other commitments.

  3. WS99 Says:

Sleep on G-diddy if you want but we would be stupid not to keep him around long term.

  4. BFFL Says:

“If Jameis is able to throw more touchdowns than picks, that is not bad, especially for a rookie taking over the reins”…

Quote from Joe in a prior Joebucsfan article: https://www.joebucsfan.com/2015/05/what-to-expect-from-jameis/

I will not let Joe or anyone else hold Glennon to a double standard. I personally will expect wins from Winston because that is what I was told he will do for this franchise and why he was worth the #1 overall pick.

  5. BucFan20 Says:

This was nothing but a low class story to cause trouble. Made you look like a kid.

  6. tmaxcon Says:

If America’s Quarterback has more than 4 wins his rookie season than his season is more successful than 8s.wins trump any stat.

could be great back up to have for years

    Mike Glennon- “America’s Starting Quarterback”

  12. BucFan20 Says:

So now we look at things diffrent.Typical. More than 4 wins he is king. Sorry it does not work that way. Did he and the offense put MORE than 17 points on the board. Did the DEFENSE give up 24,34 points a game . Did the FG kicker miss. They win the games not HE. HE better put more than 17 points on the board or HE is no better. Then all the others BETTER do their job. You all said Glennon could not lead a comeback. He better do it all the time if needed. you say he can.
Wins trumps nothing. HOW did they win? If it was only with 17 points on the board guess what? The DEFENSE must be doing a better job.

  13. Tom S. Says:

Although I was never a member of “the mob” I would rather be known as a guy who supported a QB with a positive TD to INT ratio and career 83 QB rating than a GM who won a third of the games when he ran the team and train wrecked the franchise.

Oh, and Mike Glennon was a Dominik draft pick(one of the better ones). Just saying.

  14. tmaxcon Says:

    BucFan20

Wins trump Everything. When they start throwing super bowl parades for “How they played” and the Lombardi is given to the QB with the most excuses then I’ll buy your theories. Until then I’ll stick to what matters and that is wins and championships.

  15. Dan Says:

Maybe I’m crazy… but I’m kinda pulling for both of our QB’s. The best thing that could ever happen to my Bucs is to have 2 franchise caliber starting QB’s. I hope they go to war in training camp, and we end with 2 legitimate options. As Buc fans, I think we should pull for ALL our players. If they are a Buccaneer, then I’m not going to tear one down to build the other. Let’s stop this silly bickering and start cheering for both QB’s. Stop the hate.

  16. Yungry Says:

Mike Glennon-the best rookie quarterback to come out of the Draft in last 2 seasons! Better QB Rating than Cam Newton and 2:1 touchdown/interception ratio w/o a line, running back, tight end and offensive coordinator…Cannon Arm for Mayor!!!

  17. Buccfan37 Says:

Wow, two consecutive articles about two of my favorite Buc players, Glennon and Martin. What more could I hope for?

  18. Connor Says:

“Well, they also get all hot in the pants for the new “29-and-15″ bumper stickers, representing Glennon’s touchdown-to-interception ratio.”

Be a smartass all you want Joe, but that’s actually a pretty good TD-INT ratio.

I’d like to see what Winston’s will be through his first two seasons!

  19. WinstonBomb3 Says:

Hopefully Mike Glennon can look somewhat competent so we can use him as trade bait. There is absolutely nothing worse then a qb that runs out of bounds when he’s a yard away from a “game winning drive” first down. Go lay down in Cleveland Glennon.

  20. Hawk Says:

    Amen, Dan!
And tmaxcon is right. The ONLY stat that really matters is ‘wins’.
‘Close’ only counts with horseshoes, hand grenades, and the drive-in movies.

  21. Tiny Tim Says:

Again, your locker room was texting and calling L & L and begging them to draft Winston. That should tell the Glennon Mob something, but it doesn’t. Players and GMs can see through that stupid TD/INT ratio. Its just a shame that some of the fans can not see through that ratio. Sucks to be some of you.

  22. OAR Says:

“Sucks to be some of you.”
Says some guy nicknamed Tiny Tim. Too funny!

  23. Eric Says:

Glennon is a good guy to have on the team, but I suspect he will eventually want to chase his dream of starting somewhere.

Can’t blame a guy for that.

Be good if he settled into Don Strock 2.0 though. Remember Jeff Hostettler too.

    Never know when opportunity knocks.

  24. ben Says:

since both qb are slow on their feet ,which one is faster in the 40 ?

  25. drdneast Says:

Joe, how long are you going to allow Tmaxcon to post his obscene juvenile remarks and hidden desires. They are getting extremely old and boring and in bad taste. Of course with his limited intellect, he thinks he’s being clever.

  26. LakelandBuc Says:

Glennon 29-15 TD to INT ,5-14 record. 29 TD’S in 19 starts that’s not good,in fact that’s terrible no wonder we don’t put points on the board when he’s starting, no wonder we are 5-14 when he starts.

  27. Kevin Says:

I’m pumped about Winston….but ANYBODY that judges a player when they are in the worst situation imaginable play after play game after game….they are an idiot!

If Glennon was on the patriots he’d light it up. It Brady was on the Bucs last year…..he would have sucked.

  28. LakelandBuc Says:

Kevin, but Glennon had the same offense that Josh Freeman threw for 27 TD’S and over 4,000 yds.

  29. Tom S. Says:

Glennon is the definition of a ‘meh’ QB. Won’t win you many games but won’t single-handedly lose them either. It’s more than we could ever say about Josh McCown.

  30. Hawk Says:

    LakelandBuc Said:

“Kevin, but Glennon had the same offense that Josh Freeman threw for 27 TD’S and over 4,000 yds.”
    Not so fast.
Let’s see, Freeman had a RB (Martin) who had 1500 rushing yards in 2012.
The top RB in 2013 was Rainey with 532.
The RBs, in 2012, accounted for 11 TDs.
    In 2013, six.
Oh, yea, and while Barth was kicking in 85% of his attempts with Freeman, Lindell was kicking at 79%. Four more games could have been different, this last year, with just one more FG.
Same offense? The ONLY time you might be able to remotely compare the play of two players is if they play during the same year (more likely to be same supporting cast of players/coaches). Even then, it is still not quite the same (home/away, strength of opponent, etc).

    Kevin started it by saying:
“If Glennon was on the patriots he’d light it up. It Brady was on the Bucs last year…..he would have sucked.”
    Really?!?!
I agreed with the first sentence, but this…

  31. BucFan20 Says:

    @ Hawk
    You beat me to it.
That is what I was talking about above. I am glad to have both as our qb’s. But yes the “wins” tmaxcon will be glad to give credit only to Winston is what I was talking about. If Winston can only put 17 points on the board he is no better than Glennon. So if there are more wins it may be Winston or all the changes. Just because there are more wins does not mean it is Winston by himself as he may have you think.

  32. Hawk Says:

    BucFan20 Said:
“Just because there are more wins does not mean it is Winston by himself as he may have you think.”

And if there are more wins, it will be because the Bucs are a better TEAM.
Winston, hopefully, will be a big part of that.
    “Just win, baby!”

  33. BucFan20 Says:

Now that is the way it should be my friend. The TEAM.
    “Just win, baby!”

  34. Yungry Says:

Wins are not the only stat that matters. People easily forget there are 21 other starters out there. This isn’t golf, its a team sport. Without a running game, offensive line and offensive coordinator no qb could win here. He isn’t Joe Montana but he hasn’t been given the support a young qb needs around him to prosper.

  35. Hawk Says:

    @ Yungry
Wins ARE the only stat that matters. I agree with the rest.

  36. Morgan Says:

Don’t know why JBF and Deumig slams Glennon. He’s a member of Bucs and potentially could be called upon if Winston get hurt or blunders/crashes. Give the guy some respect. The condescension showed by JBF and Duemig to Bucs fans is a tired act.

  37. Brandon Says:

Glennon has 5 career wins in 24 career starts. If Winston can get 6 wins in 16 starts this season it will pretty much guarantee he is far better than Glennon.

  38. georgia buc fan 39 years Says:

Don’t forget MG led a come from behind victory for the first ever win IN Pittsburg. Also I believe big Ben was sacked 5 times. It’s a TEAM effort. I believe given the chance AND the right coaching MG could be one of the all time greats. Remember when they used to boo Steve Young?

  39. Hawk Says:

So, if Jenkins starts, and the Bucs win six games, it will pretty much guarantee he is far better than Banks?
These kinds of arguments can be made with a sport like tennis (singles match only), but not with a TEAM sport, where different players/coaches can have a direct impact on the game.
By using the very first pick of the draft, let us all hope that Winston becomes the greatest QB in Buccaneer history, but he will still need a large group of talented people to help.
When a Buccaneer steps foot on the field, I root for him to be better than the guy he replaced, be it Winston, Jenkins, Sims, etc.

  40. Warren Says:

@Hawk: Eventually, I expect Winston to be “the greatest QB in Buccaneer history…that ain’t sayin’ much though. His first year, he’ll throw 25 TDs & 21 INTs. Bucs fans will bitch as the Bucs win 5 or 6 games…Gotta have patience ’cause not many QBs are good the first year. Give him 3 years, then analyze.

  41. tval Says:

Good trade bait if chip kelly still has a job 🙂

  42. Hawk Says:

    @ Warren
    I agree 100%.

  43. Franko Says:

Same old hatred from Joe and other idiots who disregard facts and make decisions based upon looks and feelings (also hatred for Schiano and love fest for Freeman). If you can’t print something good about the man , leave him off your site. But then again who says Tampa Press is fair or unbiased. So way to go Joe this Mello(misspelled on purpose) journalism gets you hits on your counter $ and makes you more friends (not). Some fell Elvis will sing jail house rock before a year is over.
