Happy Memorial Day!
May 25th, 2015Joe just loves the summer. No more coats. No more cold. And when women wear less and less clothes, there is no way in Joe’s eyes that is a bad thing.
It also helps that the summer is traditionally bookmarked by three-day weekends, with America’s birthday right smack dab in the middle.
If you are like Joe, at some point today you will throw raw meat on the grill, and crack open a beer (or more). So please take a moment to remember the men and woman who paid the ultimate sacrifice to allow us to guzzle beer, ingest mass quantities of meat and throw (digital) rocks at each other when discussing the Bucs.
Enjoy the day and remember the heroes. As Joe’s old man, who was a naval officer in the Pacific theater in World War II, used to say, “Heroes didn’t come home.”

I have so many relatives in Arlington and other military cemeteries that Memorial day is not very enjoyable for me.

And don’t forget that Memorial day is for the fallen, not the active serviceman. There is another holiday called “Veterans day” for them. Memorial day is sacred.

Memorial day is a sad day indeed if we just think about what is really being remembered. Part of my remembrance is cranking up Edwin Starr’s “War” as loud as I can. “War! Good God Y’all, What is it good for? Absolutely nothing! That would make a good national anthem.

Thank you to all my fellow vets, and special thanks to my son who is serving now! His courage and willingness to go where most of us wont, scares the crap out of me, leaves me in awe, and I could not be more proud of the man that he has become.

Went to a festival in Oldsmar on Sat. Memorial day related. Live music. I live live music. My wife got me t-shirt with a A1 Abrams tank that read “Land of the free. …..Because of the brave.
I was asked several times if I was a veteran, I am not. So when asked all day it seemed I politely replied. “No I am not I am a taxpayer, who supports our troops and veterans ” a veteran who was wearing his VFW beret heard me and gave me a hug.
I was floored to say the least.
Happy Memorial Day….please remember this is not a 3 day weekend for BBQ. Remember the reason behind the holiday. It feel like all of our cherished holidays have been reduced to days off to shop & party.
Sad commentary indeed.
