“The Leadership Transfer”
May 23rd, 2015Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, might not get in the ears and face of barbecue-yearning former Pro Bowl guard Logan Mankins and demand excellence and precision.
But look for young Jameis to assert himself strongly with the youngsters on the O-line. Speaking in a Buccaneers.com video, former Bucs tight end Anthony Becht called it “the leadership transfer.”
Becht emphasized that Jameis smoothly will be able to hold his fellow rookies, O-linemen Ali Marpet and Donovan Smith, accountable and raise their games.
But the broader point is what interests Joe — Jameis’ ability to lead effectively as a rookie.
Joe hopes Jameis gets after it early and with the natural ease he displayed in college — with the entire roster. All signs point in that direction.
For Joe’s money, the only thing that can stop Jameis is teammates clinging to a losing mentality.

I’ve been following Jameis since high school, and if the pattern holds true I expect Jameis to be a leader on this team but this post makes a great point….I think our QB will form a real brotherhood with the other offensive rookies on this team and take ownership of the entire group.
It will be fun to watch

Imagine Jameis in that awful Atlanta game last year, and how that team gave up before halftime, even “tape an Aspirin to it” Mankins was quitting. Jameis wouldn’t have stood for that, he would’ve been rallying the team and riling them up on the sidelines, yelling at them on the line. They would’ve likely lost that game anyway because of p!ss poor coaching, but they wouldn’t have quit.

JW will have no trouble leading this team. It comes natural to him. It’s what he does. Sure, he’ll have a learning curve but by mid season he’ll have the Bucs capable against any team.

I agree that the rookies are likely to follow Winston’s lead first…..but the 2nd year offensive players…..like Evans, ASJ, Sims, Edwards & Pamphile will also follow….they really only had McCown & Glennon for a brief period last year, so didn’t develop a bond there….
Players like Mankins, EDS & Dotson will eventually follow…but they will mostly be led by Mankins. It’s certainly possible to have multiple leaders leading the same players.
Winston can also inspire defensive players and vice-vesa.
One of the keys is Glennon….I expect that he will be a class act and take the backup role with a good attitude….

As always, Lovie Smith and his Defense/ST’s will holds it’s own…The difference now is after 2 offensive drafts Lovie’s offense is loaded; and with Jameis under center we have a legit shot to win every single Sunday…One thing the league has never seen is a Lovie Smith coached team with a Supped up Offense; we should actually be a fun team to watch moving forward…
I believe with the drafting of Jameis Winston the window of opportunity just opened for this team and most likely will remain open for a while…

I honestly think with his leadership and charisma, jameis will not only inspire the rookie class that joined the team after him, but also after training camp, ota’s the many practices leading up to the regular season, against our own defense, that his particular skill set and work, study ethic will also transfer to mike evens and Vincent Jackson , and our beloved bucs both on offence, including the O- LINE and even the vetrans will see that we finally have a leader and something special in tampa, and realize who is the leader of the club is and by the 2-3rd game will run thru a wall for him on both sides of the line. with Winston we are relevant and competitive and will have a chance to win on every sunday and I will not be surprised if we win the weakest division in football 9-7/10-6 or better!!!! go bucs
