Josh McCown Was Just Awful
May 21st, 2015Oh, those numberscrunchers are at it again. This time their calculators are shining light on an interesting subject, and that is a quarterback’s ability to handle pressure.
It shouldn’t shock Bucs fans that both Josh McCown and Mike Glennon struggled last year playing behind the jailbreak that was the Bucs offensive line.
Of the six worst quarterbacks under pressure, McCown and Glennon were in that group. Joe finds it interesting that McCown is mobile, so he should have been able to use his feet to get out of trouble. He didn’t.
What really jumped out was that Steve Palazzolo, who did the work on this project, listed all the starting quarterbacks and how they did when not under pressure. Guess what? Turnover-prone McCown was in the bottom half of quarterbacks (Glennon was in the top half of NFL starters when not facing pressure).
And folks wonder why there was a regime change at quarterback.

Some of us tried to tell you this before a snap was taken last year! Cannot wait for other articles such as “Dominik was a terrible GM” and ” Local media was wrong to blame Coach Schaino for a lack of talent on the roster!!!”
May 21st, 2015 at 12:13 pm
Josh McCown was brought in for a “veteran” presence, a QB who wouldn’t panic and turn the ball over foolishly. What a disaster!
Josh is a nice guy but he not only sucked last year he choked big time. He clearly felt the prssure of trying to live up to being Lovie’s boy.

The Buc Realist,
Dominik was a horrid GM. Look at his draft classes… Nuff said
May 21st, 2015 at 12:37 pm
They have no idea if the struggles are related to scheme issues from having no OC or what. So this is meaningless… Maybe the OL or eligibles missed the check.. Don’t care. Last year was last year.

something few hear will acknowledge. ah well, we just have to sit back and wait for jameis “angry pirate” winston to show up on TMZ so MG can come in and make the team respectable again.

@The Buc Realist
You’ll never hear hear anyone say local media was to blame to blame schiano, Dominick got fired for his awful drafting and schiano got fired for his awful childish high school losing coaching ways, turning an nfl franchise into the sunshine Rutgers university. even at 2-14 we’re better off than we were at anytime during mark dominicks reign of terror

Exacltly St.PeteBucsFan/ Sharp memory.
No one expected him to come in and be the next Joe Montana. We would have settled for a B version of The Bull.
Started showing panic signs in the first preseason game and it never ended.

Without Josh, there is no Jameis.
Thank you, Josh, for being just absolutely horrible.
May 21st, 2015 at 12:51 pm
it shows you the state of the nfl in terms of quarterbacks, I believe these teams think it was mostly on the bucs and their situation for why josh mccown struggled, he was like a rock star In the offseason, the dude was on tour this offseason and landed himself another starting job. so either it says more about the nfl quarterbacks in the league or just how bad the bucs really were top to bottom
May 21st, 2015 at 12:52 pm
The essence of this tale is not Josh…..it is really about the offensive line….well that is what the unit is called…we just had 5 sad sacks last year.

I heard a rumor about McCown that I started. 3/4 into the season he realized he had accidentally switched his playbook with an Ikea bookshelf instruction pamphlet. He set the record for most fumbles while still on the inventory page.

“Of the six worst quarterbacks under pressure, McCown and Glennon were in that group.”
No, Glennon was 10th worst, sandwiched between a couple bums named Peyton and Flacco. Whatever magical formula the nerds invented to spit out these numbers, they paint Glennon and Manning as equals both with and without pressure.
Wonder if Glennon would fare better with an OC, an OL, a pro bowl TE, and 15 extra years of experience. Who knows?
Numbers never lie. LOL

I’ll stand by my claim to follow another team, primarily because I am in S. FL, my daughter is a Dolphins fan and I just don’t see this panning out. I just can’t sit through another season and pay to watch what I believe will be a failure.”
Glennon got traded to the Dolphins? I must have missed that.

Yipper! The Famous one will handle that pressure, you’ll see. But how? With his quick feet? Could call this a nightmare but that is too kind.

LW lol
the season hasn’t started yet. still plenty of time for JW/Angry Pirate to have off the field issues and that’s IF, he can beat out MG for the starting gig.

Josh just proved what kind of a player he is I am surprised he has children the way he performs under pressure worst ive ever seen
May 21st, 2015 at 3:29 pm
Hand picked by incompetent Lovie Smith

So, initially, you were going to be a Dolphins fan immediately after the draft. Now, you are going to be a Dolphins fan by the start of training camp?
Whatever helps you sleep.

Granted Josh M was not the best of QB’s. And who knows what he might have done with a..much better O line. I mean look guys, I watched all of our games with him. And YEs, he made mistakes. But over 60% of the time he was either runnin for his life, getting sacked or just trying to get rid of the ball..any way he could!! And If our O line is not better? Mr. Winston’s gonna be in..big trouble and injured quick!! HEll, People rave about Brady. YEs, he’s good. But in over 70% of his plays? He’s barely touched. And its been that way his whole career. Course, The Patriots specialize in O linemen!!
May 21st, 2015 at 8:59 pm
Lol we’ll never know what Glennon could have been in a real offense. Thank you josh we knew the best option at quarterback wasn’t on this roster and you helped lovie extend his stay in Tampa by getting us a franchise qb, more than Glennon had ever done
May 21st, 2015 at 9:18 pm
That title is such an understatement! bucs4lyfe: yeah it would have been interesting if Glennon actually played more last season. I suspect he would have actually outperformed Josh and won the Bucs a couple more games, effectively pushing them back to 4-12 or 5-11 and back there with the Jets and Skins in the draft pecking order and missing out on either qb…. So thanks Josh for getting us Winston instead of the 6th or 7th pick in the draft…. In the meantime I think Napoleon Dynamite will make a decent backup for Winston, no sense trading him (especially with no one else but Kafka on the roster) unless someone offers a 2nd or 3rd for him and that is not going to happen….
