It seems for America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, the Holy Grail of football is mastering the playbook.
It may never happen but the key is absorbing as much as possible.
That’s the word from Jameis.
He seemed to scoff at learning Bucs offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter’s playbook. Rather, Winston wanted to improve each time he takes the practice field.
“You are never going to be able to master the playbook,” Jameis said. “I just believe you are going to get better every day. That is the path I am taking and I hope it does me well.
That seems like an intelligent answer. Jameis, who admitted he was up until 1 a.m. studying the Bucs playbook Friday morning, isn’t going to stress out by trying to memorize each nuance of the playbook in two weeks. Rather, he is going to do what Bucs brass expects, improve each day, every day.
As long as a player continues to improve, what more can you ask?

Joe, why do you continually try to turn people off on Winston by saying thi ng such as “America’s QB”?
There is absolutely Nothing about him that even Hints at America’s QB. Is it even possible to have some non Jameis Nutt Hugging in some of your articles. He is my QB now and I would like to be able to look at him for what he is. Not what you paint him to be.

Yeah, you dont file counter claim, instead of settling, when you are guilty. You are opening yourself up bigtime if theres a shred of evidence to support her claims. Jameis will forever clear his name. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her drop her suit entirely. Mr cornwell has made clune & co look like amateurs throughout the entire process. Dont expect anything different here.

Americas qb has shown innocent till proven guilty is a nice bumper sticker, but when youre a succesful young black man and a shady white woman accuses you of wrongdoing its just not the case..joe is thumbing his nose at the haters. And fyi, everyone whose been vindicated, in their unbridled support of jameis, loves it!! 🙂

All for Jameis to be great, that being said, had to check the Tribune for some unbiased coverage that referred to his first day as “erratic” which is what those of sound mind would expect…..
Joe had started construction of a pedestal and most here are gladly carrying the bricks and mortar…..
I say let the young man do his thing without sky-high expectations….he will be as good as the players around him and that was how it was at Florida State, he can be elite with elite talent around him…..
What sort of talent will be around him this season is To Be Determined……

I think that totally depends on the pace of improvement. Personally I expect ten wins this season barring any wholesale injury. I expect the Bucs to be playing better the second half of the season than the first.
And so yes I’m asking for improvement…SIGNIFICANT improvement. MG8 could win at least 8 games next year with our crapola division and schedule and an improved defense and better OL. So I expect 10 from Fameis.

I like the Americas Quarterback moniker Joe. Jameis is the single most important buccaneer hands down. Hopefully Jameis magic will counter the incompetent head coach.

You freaks need to take it easy with “Savior, Holy Grail” crap. All you are doing is feeding the extra pressure that this kid is going to feel with his situation as the new starter on a bad team in need of a lift. Don’t crush his already narcissistic psyche before the season even starts. Give the kid a few games to show us what he has for the NFL before you put not just the weight of a franchise but the weight of Tampa Bay on his shoulders. This kid should be great we just have to let it unfold a bit before we start the ” he’s the next coming” bullspit. Go Jameis! Go Bucs!

Charlie… It’s not that there isn’t optimism. But calling him “America’s QB” doesn’t make sense. He hasn’t won jack, and now that he’s a buc the majority of the country really doesn’t care about him (unless more negative pub comes about).
The label just has a kiss ass kind of feel to it, a lot like your post.

StPeteBucFan, I usually agree with you but 10 wins is a lofty goal for a rookie QB with two rookie offensive lineman projected st start with a new OC.
It took the Giants at least a half of a season to get comfortable with their new system with an experienced franchise QB.
Of course any new system is better than last years which consisted of slamming the ball into the middle, continuing to pound the ball against 8man fronts of 2nd and 9 and doing down and outs and fly routes all day.
8 wins would be a great improvement and more than that is icing on the cake..
Andrew Luck was certainly more pro ready than Winston and I think he took a team that was only one year away from the playoffs after losing Peyton Manning to 10 wins. The pieces were definitely already in place for Luck to be successful.
Can’t say the same for our beloved Bucs after a dozen years of miserable drafts.

I wish Joe and other sports media types would STOP with all the Winston hype!!!
If Winston falters and does not live up to all the expectations, all fans and media types will be critical and disappointed. Even John Elway, Dan Moreno, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning and other rookie QB’s struggled their first year. Only RG111 and Andrew Luck are recent examples of rookie success stories.
JOE: Lighten up! He’s a rookie and will ultimately grow into the job.

Joe runs a business. There is interest in Jameis — significant.

America’s QB? Really? I think I just puked in my mouth! Guy has one bad practice and now he’s America’s QB…. Get a grip dude, this guy has a ways to go before he’s Tampa’s QB!
If Winston was a different race would all the black players pump him up?
