Yes, we are still talking about the draft. And why not? Bucs general manager Jason Licht suggested last week’s draft may be the most important in franchise history.
Such importance warrants additional analysis.
For the spreadsheeters over at ProFootballFocus.com, Thomas Maney ran some numbers and believes the pick of Jameis Winston No. 1 overall may not be an “A,” but will turn out to be a good pick when all is said and done.
Round 1: Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State
Grade: B
The expected pick here, though Winston had a pretty average 2014 season, notably struggling in games against Oklahoma State, Louisville, and Florida. But take a look at his performance in Week 13 against Boston College to see Winston at his best, which is what we saw for most 2013 when he consistently stood in the face of pressure, delivering the ball with anticipation and pinpoint accuracy. That’s what made this an easy choice for Tampa, though they will have to get him back to that 2013 level.
Depth Chart Fit: It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him starting Week 1 over Mike Glennon.
See? “Pinpoint accuracy.” That’s the Jameis that Joe knows and loves.
Given all that Joe has heard about how smart Winston is when it comes to football, and specifically offenses, it would be shock if Winston isn’t starting when the Bucs open up against the Titans, barring some sort of injury, God forbid.

I can’t wait for Winston to start throwing TDs and winning games for this team. People will forget all about how much they dislike him and how awful the Bucs 2014 season was.

Until further notice the most important draft in Buc’s history is the one that gave us Brooks and Sapp.

Pinpoint accuracy is one of the major attributes lacking in almost any rookie quarterback, fresh out of college.
Only time will cure that. But there is a major point that must be made in the Bucs’ favor. They have Jackson, Evans and S-J with tremendous leaping ability, catch radius that blows your mind and, of course, 6-5 towers above those 5-11 or 6 foot DB’s.
That makes it a whole lot easier to just lay the ball in the vicinity to get a completion.

people sure do point to one or two throws a game where glennon showed pinpoint accuracy to say he’s a franchise quarterback even though they would end up losing the game. the point is it can be done and freeman was never described that way so I think he can do it AND on a more consistent basis then glennon ever did. Winston will go into training camp the starter lol

L&L are all in on Winston. He could look like a total bust in training camp and Glennon could look like Brady and they will still start Winston.

In order for Winston to start on opening day, they will have to make a tough decision. He’s going to have to take the majority of the reps in training camp which means he can be splitting time with Glennon.
Pinpoint accuracy against BC? Were any of the BC defensive players drafted?

lol Winston will win the starting job in rookie mini camp hahaha. glennon isn’t the fierce competitor Winston is and we don’t have to worry about Winston running out of bounce before the first down marker. reason there is NO advantage for glennon is because they are both starting off with a brand new coordinator. whether it’s glennon or Winston you don’t want them throwing the ball much anyway which falls right into lovie style of offense so why not let the new era begin day one of training camp so Winston can get starters reps….he will get starters reps

in most evaluations i read, it really seems like JW’s 2013 season has been wiped from the map. i understand “what have you done for me lately”, but at times it’s like his stat line and accomplishments in 2013 were somehow rendered invalid by offseason controversies. nobody even seems to be willing to entertain a pro projection (especially TD\INT) that falls closer to his 2013 numbers.

I was at the BC game, it was pouring down rain. I was shocked that Fisher kept calling passing plays but Jameis handled it like a pro

With all the stories I’m seeing and reading about Winston, he might seriously think about getting a restraining order against Joe before the stalking begins.
Either that or Joe just might reconsider changing the name of the site to JoeWinstonsFan.

First, it was having to wait for the draft so that the clamor about who the Bucs would draft would simmer down (it hasn’t). Now I can’t wait for the season to going to proved, one way or another, just how talented Winston is. I suspect, short of making the playoffs, there will STILL be people arguing over his future.
And if the team turned out to be successful (whatever that means changes from one person to another), there will be those who say it was due to anyone other than Jameis. Crap, even if he retires 16 years from now and makes the Hall of Fame, there will be those that will call it the Hall of Shame.
It seems like this stupid, needless debate will never end. I’m sick of it! Go find some thing else to waste your time on.

These haters crack me up! I MIGHT be wrong, but almost 2 years ago I had heard so much about this kid and his talent I bought a ticket to Pittsburgh to see his first college game and put to rest all the internet talk about how great he is…Admittedly I am a Nole homer, but a cynical one at that. I went to the Pitt game to dispel all the “savior” stuff…and walked away in amazement…even Pitt fans were in awe…
If you havent seen Jameis in person play, you have no idea….good times are ahead buc fans!! good times!!

What some fans don’t know and us Noles fans do. Is that Winston goes on these sudden clips where he reels off 7-8 completions in a row. Sometimes even higher. He can be deadly accurate when he heats up. Let’s just hope he stays heated up now that he’s surrounded by a good core of NFL WR’s, so he won’t have to rely on just one WR alone.
He knows who he’s going to be throwing to, but I don’t think it’s really going to hit him until they are out in training camp and he’s actually throwing to them.
This is the perfect team for Jameis Winston to play for.

When given time – and like ’87 said – especially when he gets hot – Winston is like a surgeon on the field with his accuracy.
Bucs fans have never seen the likes of Jameis’ accuracy from a QB wearing a Bucs uniform. And I feel very comfortable saying that before he’s ever even taken a snap as a Buc. Seen it too many times to think otherwise. And the bigger the game and the more urgent the situation – the better Winston plays
A big part of the “high football IQ” involves recognizing and picking on defensive weakness and bad matchups. It’s like 2nd nature to this young man and is one of the things that really sets him apart from other 21 year old QBs.
