Daniel Jeremiah: Bucs Primed To Repeat

Joe had high hopes listening to the post-draft podcast of noted NFL Network draft gurus Daniel Jeremiah, a former scout Joe respects greatly, and Charles Davis.
Joe was all jacked up to hear good things about the Bucs.
Then Jeremiah started talking about what team would get the No. 1 pick next year. After much consideration, Jeremiah believes the Titans and Bucs will battle for that honor in 2016. Jeremiah says the winner (loser?) should be the team whose quarterback struggles more.
Charles Davis didn’t disagree.
Joe headed to Walgreen’s for Tums and a Valium refill.
This just can’t happen. The Bucs can’t be mired with two or three wins and thinking about the No. 1 overall pick in late December.
If that’s the case, then Team Glazer will need to go coach shopping.

Devil’s advocate here Joe, let’s say we are picking high again next year, are we really going coach shopping again after 2 years? You’re not of the belief it takes time to put the “system” together?
And if we’re coach shopping does that mean we’re not GM shopping?

False. I obviously don’t know what the future is going to hold. However, last year was a perfect storm of a lot of bad things coming together to put us at a terrible record. I’m also not ruling out intentionally losing more of those games than just that last obvious one. No way that’s the case this year.

Spin it however you like. Raheem won 16 games in his first two years. Schiano won seven in his first season. If Lovie is competing — or tanking — for the No. 1 pick again next year, then there’s really not much that needs to be said.

Remember last year all the “experts” had us in the playoffs and one even said we were supperbowl bound. If the experts are saying we won’t improve its a safe bet that we will win the division.

lol that’s just stupid, Daniel Jeremiah is guessing and as usual when you starting talking about things like they your usually wrong. bucs had first pick so they are an easy target but it shows how little attention people pay to these small teams, they don’t know one thing about what tampa will do and why do I say that?
as bad as tampa was, as bad as the coaching was and as bad as the scheming was, the mental breakdowns by coaches and players still in all that we had to tank the last game to get first overall pick otherwise we would have gotten the 2nd or 3rd pick. dirk koetter is getting no respect at all YET

I don’t buy it. There are so many reasons why we should be considerably better than last year. First of all, McClown is not going to play QB. He single handily lost us at least 3 games last year. Probably more. I’m not expecting Jameis Winston to be a superstar next year, but I’d be shocked if he wasn’t a huge upgrade over McClown (and Glennon). Second, Marcus Arroyo is not going to be our offensive coordinator. What a complete disaster! Koetter will make a big difference offensively. He will put our guys in a position to succeed. It’s not like we don’t have talent on offense. Third, our defense should be improved, due to already having one year in the system. Now we won’t be the Bucs defense of old, but I also don’t think we are going to get torched like we did early last year. We could all at least see our defense go from horrendous to pretty bad as the year wore on. Hopefully that can improve to average this year. One can dream that it could be above average. Finally, we appear (“appear” being the key word) to have an easier schedule this year. If we can win 10 games in 2010 (also with an easy schedule), we could have a shot to do something similar this year.

As I’ve said a million times, I really don’t care what national media pundits predict about the Bucs. Good, rank us #32. We need to fly as far under the radar as possible.

The Bucs will not be in the top 5 for NFL Draft picks in 2016 unless there is a trade that got us up there.
I have to guess that some people like Jeremiah and Davis are “Gun Shy” over all the bad publicity Jameis has received and that is clouding their analytical abilities.
6 wins or more….thats my benchmark for the coming season.

I like our draft that being said too many holes. No MLB and no stud de will doom the defense. I am optimistic some of young de will be better than what left but good turd is still a turd. The oline is still a mess. any line with EDS and Mankins on it is a disgrace.
I am tired of this system BS… Players win championships not systems. Coaches need to take advantage of players strengths within their systems not force athletes to think first play second… Lovie wasted LVD last year by forcing him in such a rigid system. The biggest concerns all bucs fans should have is all the broken down, system specific players that will be left on roster after the Lovie smith experiment fails. Having Lovie as a coach is a much bigger risk than Winston as the face of the franchise.

You see this every year. Outside of the Seahawks/Pats/Colts/Broncos/Packers being the top teams; and the AFC north being potential playoff teams besides the Browns; you typically see a ton of turnaround and disparity year to year in the NFL.
Despite this; everyone just still looks at last year for their power rankings. And they are always wrong.

when you’re sitting in the offseason, barring any major free agent movement, you’ve gotta start with who teams were last year. the patriots look like the best team in the league and the bucs look like the worst. perfectly reasonable for somebody to assume that the same group of players, with a couple role player FAs and in spite of some potential impact rookies, to produce similar results until they prove otherwise. there are many many reasons to believe the bucs will be better, but i’m happy to steer clear of hype and hyperbole until this group of players and coaches earns it on the field on Sundays.

Looking forward to the season, apprehension, yes, but I also know, the pigskin takes funny bounces sometimes and if the Bucs can get those bounces, they could be a contending team. I believe the talent is there, now I believe there are some players on this team with the mentality as well to change the paise attitude culture of this team. Damn it be pirates and get the “booty”, that’s all I’m saying.

The Rams picked at the top for years After their Super Bowl run. Now I’d take ’em to win the NFC this year. The point? If the Bucs’ pick 1st after showing some growth, some purpose, than All Good. Take some solace in the fact that we actually HAVE an OC this year. We actually have a starting QB this year. Don’t expect them to be good yet. That needs work. But we actually finally have them. That’s been a LONG time coming. Be happy.

LOL, No, but suits me they make this call (new players and offensive system). I dont care what anyone else thinks. We lost a lot of close ones last year with a tougher schedule. Now our D can still be picked apart, maybe like those two big losses last year since Frazier is still DC and we have yet to see what the likes of our reacquired George Johnson can do. But the key is we NOW have the ability to score more points than the last 3 years.
I feel those close games will go our way (barring a zebra taking a crap on us like usual). Winston thrives in close games and coming from behind. Yes I know, he’s going to need some time, and so will the O line. But to say we’re earning a 1st or 2nd overall pick next year is absurd. I think we win at least 6, but who really knows. I kind of dont mind since we’re still rebuilding. 2016/2017 is where Im looking. Upgrades at DE, MLB and SS, another bigtime WR to replace VJax, a big play RB and we’re on our way….barring major injury.

When it comes to the draft Jeremiah is instant credibility but pass that I won’t buy what hes selling.
It’s really hard to win just two games and it’s even harder losing all games.
The Bucs will be improved mark it down.

so many people are all about name recognition why is why people predict every first round pick to come in and put their team in the playoffs. some draft picks are obvious day one starters but what MLB were we going to draft that would have been better than bruce carter? and no stud on DE, Seattle had 2 sacks more than us last year. the entire scheme works hand in hand. the defensive line is better and in case you didn’t know it, simeon rice helped us get one superbowl….ONE and he wasn’t the only reason we were in the playoffs every year damn some people are never satisfied

It’s not about names it’s about players with consistent track records. Carter himself said he has not played a lot of mlb therefore he is a legit question mark.

Carter was dominant as the weak side MLB in the 3-4 and he was a beast SLB last year.
Carter will be fine – remember we can only go up from where we were.

I think what your comment really showed was that aside from the power rankings, the teams that have the best franchise quarterbacks, are the ones that tend to consistently go farther into the playoffs and win Superbowls. Let’s hope to god we finally got one this year that can do the same! I also think the Bucs would be wise to employ a full-time personal baby sitter for this kid off the field, if they want to keep their franchise investment on the field.

I’d bet the Bucs will be somewhere around 5-11 or 6-10.
If the defense plays lights out, they could do even better (7-9 or 8-8).
Not expecting much this year but hoping to at least see improvement, development, and steady growth throughout the year.

this is lovie smith’s 2nd year…if your upset over the last 13 years blame bruce allen and mark Dominick…..the one thing I do know is it would be kind of silly to think that everytime theres a change in leadership you’ll get the same results….our last 2 head coaches had ZERO head coaching experience, you think a veteran head coach wouldn’t know what to do in year two after a bad season? your like a woman scorned, it feels much better to have hope than despair. save that anger for when the season starts lol

The only way the Bucs don’t pick in the Top-5 in 2016 is if Winston defies the odds and has an outstanding rookie season while making a remarkable leap in decision making off the field. Both will be extremely difficult as the physical pounding, interceptions, and losing start to take their toll on his confidence and character.
He also needs to avoid the partying clique, there is no need to add any intoxicants to the mix. Whenever an NFL player gets into trouble, there’s usually intoxicants and/or women involved.

Don’t try to make something out of nothing I don’t trust lovie because he can’t coach not because of any other reason. would probably be for the best, but with an easier schedule, we will win 5 or 6 and pick around 10th to miss out on an elite player and be stuck with lovie for another year. 2015 will be about the young guys getting experience and hopefuly by 2017 we are ready to do something. The titians may be 1st though, what a bad roster

Lovie is a bad coach, just like you all probably thought Jon Gruden was a bad coach. Look at the Bucs and the Bears since they fired Gruden and Lovie. Playoff wins aren’t exactly mounting for either organization. I have faith in Lovie, but he took over a bad roster. He did get rid of some players he shouldn’t have, but make no mistake, none of those guys he got rid of were going to get us to the playoffs. If Jameis becomes the real deal, in the long run we will all applaud those roster moves. Lovie has won in this league, and he will win again with us. (of course, I retract all that if we go 4-12 this year. He’s got to go if that’s the case)

I disagree and see at least a 7-9 or 8-8 season ahead of us. Last year was a fluke. Yes, we were a poor team, but not that poor. Last year was Murphy’s Law on steriods – everything that could go wrong, did go wrong, to wit:
1. The free agents we picked up played awful, all of them. Not one bright spot;
2. The offensive coordinator had health problems and was not replaced with a qualified subsittute;
3. Most NFL games are won/lost by just a few plays. None of those plays went our way. NONE.
4. We played in the weakest division in the NFC, and still lost to division opponents – they weren’t that much better than us.
So, Buc fans, take a deep breath and get ready for Gene to say “when the toe hits the leather.”
I almost forgot….those new uniforms still look awful. Go back to the old pewter and red, the same uniforms we won the Super Bowl with. The new uniforms HAD to have something to do with it.

Why don’t you write the Glazers a letter and tell them your are going to quit watching games on TV. That will show them.
I have no idea how the Bucs will do this year but I will continue to support them.
I do know the addition of Koetter will be a big improvement and I think Winston might be a better QB now than McCown ever was.
That in itself should give us at least 6 wins next year.

@ ws99 – they actually had us pegged ah the worst in the league on ESPN. If you look at the roster and all the practice squad players that will be strolled out at safety and DE it’s very clear that 2015 is going to be a loooong season.

I think the upgrade from Arroyo to Koetter alone should produce at least 2-3 extra wins. I expect a bottom-12 finish but not the worst record in the league.
4 wins minimum, 7 wins max is my educated guess.
