“We’re Going To Win A Super Bowl”
May 2nd, 2015The Buccaneers’ big time draft picks have done some big time talking.
Jameis Winston might have met his match.
We all know Jameis is brimming with confidence. That came through at the NFL Scouting Combine, when he told a massive throng of media he wasn’t competing against Marcus Mariota, he was competing against Tom Brady and Payton Manning and planning on playing in a Super Bowl next season.
And now rookie Bucs left tackle Donovan Smith, the No. 34 overall pick last night, is talking Super Bowl, too. This quote from the Penn State product on Philly.com is sure to get Bucs fans pumped up.
Smith also said he’s up to the challenge of protecting quarterback Jameis Winston, the No. 1 overall pick selected by the Bucs.
“Me and Jameis, that’s all I’ve got to say,” he said. “We’re going to the top. We’ve got to.
“I’m ready for it. I’m up for the challenge. We’re all going to push each other, and we’re going to win a Super Bowl.”
Smith, of Owings Mills, Md., started 31 of 37 games in his career at Penn State and earned a berth in the Senior Bowl at the end of the 2014 season. In his three seasons with the Nittany Lions, he blocked for two of the three career passing yardage leaders – Matt McGloin and Christian Hackenberg.
It sure seems like the Bucs are trying to change the attitude and the approach in the Bucs’ locker room, despite what Danny Lansanah might think.

The more I look at Donovan Smith the more I love the pick. He is humongous but can handle the speed rushers. Straight up dominated in his game against Ohio State and made the 2013 version of Randy Gregory his b*tch. Check out Draft Breakdown, you will come away very relieved that he will keep Jameis upright.

And Mayock said this kid doesn’t have passion for football. HA!

I also really like this pick. The guy is awesome in pass protection. He’s just so big that defenders cant find a way around him. He needs to work on his run blocking, but I like the pick.

Mayock is the Pierre Gammons of football, he just throws a thousand things on the wall and pats himself on the back when a couple stick…. You have to love the competitve streak that smith has; of course he thinks he is gonna win, what do you expect for him to predict a 4-12 finsh next season????

Its crazy that I saw Ali Marpet play against my brother in college at WPI. Guys a Monster, literally was blocking 2 defensive tackles by himself all game. And the DT’s were pretty large men themselves.

@fortmyersDave, I still rather listen to him then Kiper and McShay.

I will say that he does seem like a diva at a times. Like pulling himself out late in the Ohio state game because he had a “concussion” when it really looked like he was just worn out more than anything. That caused Penn state to have to shuffle their entire line with the game on the line. So toughness isn’t a word I would use to describe him, but very talented something I would use. Granted, I don’t know him very well so this might just be overblown, but we’ll see.

Hackett is a flat out hitter! What I’d really like to see is if our corners can jam at the line to let a guy like this really flourish in space… Time will tell
