Lovie’s First Defensive Pick: Linebacker Kwon Alexander In The Fourth Round
May 2nd, 2015The Buccaneers’ streak ends at nine — nine consecutive offensive players drafted by the Lovie Smith-Jason Licht regime.
The Bucs traded up in the fourth round this afternoon and selected linebacker out of the Louisiana State University.
Alexander is a great athlete at 6-1, 227 pounds and should be a standout special teams player and compete for playing time with Orie Lemon, Danny Lansanah and others.
An All-SEC player last year with 90 tackles, Alexander was a two-year starter at outside linebacker for the Tigers in 2013 and 2014. He payed in 32 games during his career, starting 23 times.

Nice pick… BPA… Speed. Good character. All SEC… Solid tackler… Good in pass coverage…
Good value and upgrades the SAM lb spot…

Looks like Lovie got some help on special teams… Bucs traded the first pick of round 7 to Oakland get this guy and I guess that is irrelevant as 7th rounders rarely contribute past the practice squad but I wonder who they thought was gonna nab the LSU kid before them; B’more, dallas, San Fran? Bucs seem a little jumpy in this draft in how they are moving up to grabs guys who probably would be there when they pick….

The bucs in recent years have been jumpy for players in the draft. It started with Dominick constantly doing it. Notably moving up to draft Lavonte David. Last year we did some of the same things moving up to draft ASJ iirc. I don’t mind it all. If we move up every round it basically just pushes our 7th rounders into late 7s or we end up losing one. To me that’s no big loss.
