Best Since Andrew Luck

April 23rd, 2015

Jameis WinstonSo what kind of prospect is Jameis Winston when compared not just to Marcus Mariota, but all quarterbacks drafted in the first round since 2011?

One of the NFL’s top analysts took on this subject.

He would be pickpocket-thwartingBucs-uniform-frowningAllie-LaForce-smittenBig-Ten-Network-hatingpedestrian-bumpingolive oil-lappingpopcorn-munchingcoffee-slurpingfried-chicken-eatingoatmeal-lovingcircle-jerkingbeer-chuggingcricket-watchingscone-loathingcollege football-naïvebaseball-box-score-readingNPR-listeningfilthy-hotel-stayingfight-instigatingbarista-training Peter King, of Sports Illustrated, NBC Sports and TheMMQB.com fame.

King found a mysterious working NFL personnel man to reveal secret evaluations. Winston got extremely high marks, ranking second to Andrew Luck.

I asked a high-ranking evaluator from an NFL team that has been in the QB market to do just that. He checked back on the final grades for each of the 12 first-rounders, added Winston and Mariota, then seeded them on the condition of anonymity.

From Luck to Ponder, Team X’s Top 14:

1. Andrew Luck
2. Jameis Winston
3. Robert Griffin III
4. Cam Newton
5. Blaine Gabbert
6. Marcus Mariota
7. Ryan Tannehill
8. Blake Bortles
9. Jake Locker
10. Teddy Bridgewater
11. EJ Manuel
12. Johnny Manziel
13. Brandon Weeden
14. Christian Ponder

In case you’re wondering, this isn’t coming from the Buccaneers or the Titans. This team and this evaluator doesn’t have a horse in the Winston/Mariota race. He submitted the list in the interest of debate, with a caveat: The grades span multiple management regimes.

This illustrates why the Bucs should draft Winston. Teams can’t win Super Bowl without strong quarterbacks, and you have to take a shot at the best guy, especially when it’s all a gamble anyway.

Reading this list, Joe’s remembering all the Cam Newton doubters, and how Newton jumped into the NFL after the asinine lockout cost him valuable work in 2011. Newton, coming from a spread offense, went on to an excellent rookie season.

Of course, there are also excellent non-first-round picks from these years, such as Andy Dalton and Russell Wilson.

I want Winston more than the next guy, but having Gabbert that high (surprised he’s on the list anyhow) makes this list completely irrelevant

  2. Pat Says:

Johnny made it there too. Great list.

  3. WS99 Says:

    Joe,

The M&Ms don’t want to know this. It has nothing to do with off field issues. Just found this little gem, winston ran a 5.0 40 right? So how was he able to catch up to a guy who ran the 3rd fastest 100m in ncaa history? Just saying.

  4. WalkdaPlank Says:

What an awesome list. Lmao, might as well throw Tebow in there too. Keep dumpster diving.

  5. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

Luck…while a great college talent…was 1st overall going to a team MUCH MUCH different than L&L Bucaneers. The Colts were a good team for years…then had 1 bad year without Manning (TANKED the season) then Luck started for a team with many established starters…Jameis is going to a BAD team with many holes and many below average talent starters

  6. WS99 Says:

I’d put Bridgewater above Mariota. The rest of the spread o guys at the bottom of the list. You notice no matter of many facts you show these kids it’s never good enough unless it has to do with crab legs.

  7. WS99 Says:

    Fungi

On offense it’s close. Luck had Hilton and an aging Wayne with no real rb. Winston has Evans with an aging vjax and no real running back. It’s going to boil down to the coaching and how they manage the game.

  8. WalkdaPlank Says:

Ah that’s right, Tebow was drafted in 2010. Otherwise I bet he would’ve been high on this list lol.

  9. Eric Says:

Gabbert is on the list because he was drafted in the first round.

And the list is grades coming into the draft, not how they played afterwards.

  10. Buc1987 Says:

    @Erik the cleaning guy…

    Away jersey size XL Men’s.

  11. bucrightoff Says:

That list tells you getting a QB after the 1st round is as easy, or even easier, than it is in the 1st round. Half of that list is mega busts, a few ok players, and Luck. I keep saying it, but I strongly suspect the best QB from this draft won’t be either Jameis or Mariota.

  12. Dreambig Says:

Ws99 – I forgot about that play Licht had on his phone. Awesome play! The fact Licht had it on his phone speaks volumes!

  13. Jacko101 Says:

So IF Winston is the pick we would have the 3rd best QB but still be the bottom of the NFC South?

  14. INDYbucsfan Says:

@fungi. I’ve had colts season tickets for the past 15 years, well my dad has. And I promise you that the only reason the colts are good is because of Luck. Their DBs played lights out for a few weeks last year. But everyone in Indy knows that the colts never have a good O or D line and the only reason they’ve been successfully was first manning then luck.
I would say the bucs skilled positions are about even to when luck came out. And the bucs D is much better.

  15. Espo Says:

    Great link WS99.

Ppl you need to understand this list was compiled according to high high these players were thought of at the time of their draft. In retrospect, the list would be very different.

  16. Dave Pear Says:

    WS99,
That’s heart and hustle. Don’t think the Baby Giraffe could do that and I’m pretty sure Mariota wouldn’t even THINK about doing that.
Great video. I’d forgotten about that play.

  17. ATrain Says:

Ranking any QB on this list before he has thrown one pass is ignorant..

    What a stretch…

Winston Blind Followers you don’t have to troll the internet looking for a story to put him in a positive light.

The one thing you are right about is the Bucs will take him..
    You got him…
But all y’all better be right or this ship is the titanic…

Really Winston caught a track guy..Ha Ha..
    I saw him run the 40 twice….4.9. 4.9
You have worn out ever excuse for him. Better save some for when he starts playing

    13. Brandon Weeden
    14. Christian Ponder

From 3 down Winston will be better than all of them…

  21. Buc1987 Says:

@Joe stop posting so much positive things about Jameis. The haters won’t believe it anyways and ALWAYS dispute whatevers said by any “expert”.

It has to be negative in order for them to agree…

  22. ATrain Says:

    You are!!!!

But dance for the next few months…

I am dying to see your excuses in the middle of the year..

    Oh coaches…The line sucks….He’s a rookie needs a year to grow…

  23. WS99 Says:

At least he’ll be on the field rather than getting splinters on his but.

  24. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

It’s scary to see so many complete misses on that list (even scarier to see two of the busts were Florida St QB’s). Take Marioyta and Winston out since they haven’t taken an NFL snap yet and you have 5 confirmed busts (probably two more if you add Manziel and RG III), Bortles struggled a lot as a rookie, and both Newton and Tannehill are statistically mediocre/mid pack guys. Almost looks like the list was compiled by some random football fan who never scouted professionally but did stay at a motel 6 last night.

  25. Jordan Says:

This is actually Robert Klemko’s work, not Peter King’s. Klemko is a writer for mmqbsi.com

  26. Dave Pear Says:

    ATrain,
All rookies need time to grow.
Are you really just a total hater of a Jameis?

  27. WS99 Says:

Btw rotf over the “you are!” Im childish too glad to see you don’t have a problem with his maturity.

  28. Buc1987 Says:

    “Oh coaches…The line sucks”

ATrain…as of right now. Those aren’t excuses. They’re facts. You’ll have to do a lot better than that for examples…

  29. tortured orlando bucs fan Says:

List makes sense from a pre draft perspective of course….but ive been wondering…how far back do you have to go (other than luck of course) to find a higher rated pre draft qb prospect?…..i was thinking, maybe stafford?(even then im guessing it would be close)…but if not stafford, then who? Seems like we have to go pretty far back…if anyone has the answer to this id be curious

  30. Lord Cornelius Says:

lmao at you pessimistic haters. The Colts that Luck inherented were an all star team compared to the Bucs? Are you f*cking kdding me?

Do you know that the Colts may have had a worse O-line than the Bucs last year? They shuffled more starters than any other team.

Who were the all -stars on the 2012 Colts? Aging Reggie Wayne? Aging DEs?

That team is honestly still not much different in talent than the current Bucs on paper. Outside of Luck. THey had no run game last year; bad O-line; limited weapons. Far from elite defense. You people are freaking crazy

  31. Buc1987 Says:

For the 80th time on this site I state it again. Ponder and Manuel SUCKED while at FSU. Yes sucked!

    Did Jameis? Nope.

  32. ATrain Says:

Yes but your beloved Winston will fix it alll

Dave you are a Tool…Please scan all posts for the correct grammar… haha..Tool

Toes on the line you maybe the only one who is not blind…

    Follow boys Follow..

Make sure you stay here don’t get lost when Winston head explodes..

87 those examples are as good as this list of QB on here..They are all jokes

  33. Buc1987 Says:

ATrain…so the O-line is stellar huh?

  34. Stanglassman Says:

The Winston supporters will be rooting for the team to do well and succeed while the Mariota fans will hope and cheer for failure. I much rather be a real fan and enjoy the successes understanding there will be growing pains. He’s a good kid, great leader with a huge heart, get on board now & don’t compound your misery.

  35. WalkdaPlank Says:

Actually with any QB from this draft we will still have the 4th best QB in the division. Joe lives that argument. We probably will until Brees retires.

  36. Buc1987 Says:

    The coaches are great?

  37. Dave Pear Says:

2 of the best fans Tampa could have. We 1000’s more like them.

  39. Buc1987 Says:

In fact they need to sit right behind our bench and tell Winston how much he sucks at every game..

Yes we need 1000’s of more fans like them…

Rooting for failure of their rookie QB so they can be right.

  40. tortured orlando bucs fan Says:

Im of the opinion we should draft winston…but of course its a huge gamble, unfortunately its near impossible to get a good long term franchise w o taking a gamble, i very well know he could be (and far more likely than the next manning or luck) the next weeden, geno, or manuel on the field, but hes worth that gamble if y.ou consider the huge upside….qbs like mariota simply DO NOT make it in the nfl, except for maybe a decent year or 2, and if we havejust a 1/3 chance of getting that next top 10 qb in a bucs uniform until the mid 2020s you ecstaticly turn in that draft card and laugh at the gm who offered you 3 1st round picks…but its a lot easier to sit here as a fan and say it (specially when you dads from spain and the only other team you care about in the only other sport you ever played or watched ever week you watch is fc barcona whos kiiiiiiillllllliiing it! Visca barca!) and hopefully visca bucs franchise qb winston

  41. WantstaStayaBuc Says:

I thought the Winstonites said we had to draft Winston because we need to win NOW and can’t wait the year to develop Mariota. Lately, all I see are preparatory statements that suggest, like all rookies, Winston the Savior will have trouble and need time to develop.

Do you even believe any of what you say anymore?

“I thought the Winstonites said we had to draft Winston because we need to win NOW and can’t wait the year to develop Mariota.”

Well you either thought wrong or a have a piss poor memory.

Lovie needs to “win NOW” and can’t afford to wait for Mariota. Winston might not win enough for him, but Mariota sure as hell won;t win anyt games for him while he’s sitting on the bench…

Why does what we have to say matter anymore, when Winston is GOING to BE the pick?

Does it really matter at this point what I think about the kid or what the Bucs think about him?

    smh.

  45. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Let me throw a snake on the table…and I’m certainly not MGM.

But Mike Glennon is better than some of the QBs on that list.

  50. A Gator that loves the Bucs Says:

The “expert” in this article that ranked RG3 over Cam Instantly lost ALL credibility by ranking RG3 over Cam and Im not a Cam lover

  51. JFat Says:

RGIII was a boss in his rookie year. People seem to forget that. The problem is his head got too big and his knees couldn’t support the weight.

  52. Brian D. Says:

Charlie Campbell at WalterFootball has been saying for months that the Bucs have Winston rated behind Luck…but ahead of Newton, Stafford, and Bradford…and any other prospect in recent memory. I’m not sure if those span multiple managements or if that’s a list of Licht’s rankings or someone else in the front office.

  53. ATrain Says:

    Dave you are funny..

    Not funny haha..

Yes 87 I’ve jump on the Winston train…Since name calling is in the Winston Followers posts …

Pro Ready now Winston..I mean not Now now like now years later..But he is great..

You call yourself a fan and even look at a QB list with two QBs who have never thrown a pro pass….HAHA..

Confirmed Winston is posting on here under 87…

  54. WS99 Says:

    jfat

Lol, it wasn’t his head. He took off running and got bent and twisted, bye bye career. My fear is that the same will happen to Mariota. I’m watching highlights of him getting sacked and the kid is being manhandled by college players what do you think is going to happen in the NFL. All these scrambling qb have short careers.

  55. JFat Says:

Hoping for success for both of these guys. The more I look in to both, the more I like them both. I think at this point I’ll truly be happy with either one and be genuinely excited about the years to come.

I think both of these guys will play this year, and play well, unless they land on a team with an established starting QB or Cleveland. Rookie QBs have excelled recently, regardless of their college system, if they have a coach that works with their strengths.

  56. WantstaStayaBuc Says:

    87

Anyone that’s followed this site has read how Winstonites have repeatedly said we must pick him because he will win now and we can’t wait.

True, the Bucs can wait even if Lovie can’t. Don’t you think the Glazers know that?

What we as fans think matters as much now as it ever has, but that hasn’t stopped your repeated odes of man love to Winston. If you think no one should state their opinion, then lead by example and log off for good.

Again, try to be somewhat logically consistent sometime.

  57. tortured orlando bucs fan Says:

@davepear…grammatical errors are the side effect of posting from a cell phone while running around, sorry!

  58. JFat Says:

    @WS99

Hah, yeah, that’s a legit concern. But, RGIII was flat out reckless in his rookie year, the Shannahan boys really ran him in to the dirt in the playoffs too.

  59. MOBucs Says:

ATrain… This is how a specific team graded out the qb prospects since 2011 before any of them played an NFL snap. Fun to read if your a Winston fan, but meaningless in the long run.

    What do you mean?
    Funny, funny how?
    How am I funny?

  61. A Gator that loves the Bucs Says:

Evening DB. I am not afraid of any of that happening to Mariota unless We take him and start him behind this horrid OL. As long as he goes to a team that will give him 2.5 secs to throw the ball he will be fine. Diff between him and JW was that he only had four plays that he was allowed to call pre-snap. That means he only has three possible audibles. His team was handcuffed to only four possible plays. Im totally ok with JW if he is our pick but MM will be far better than RG3 imo.

Joe, I’m really surprised that you didn’t mention Joey Johnston’s article (‘Fire and Ice’) that was in today’s Tampa Tribune. Article was quite good and insightful about both Jameis and Marcus.

There was one quote in there that I couldn’t stop laughing over. Hueytown, Alabama resident Pam Miller doesn’t sound like she’s very high on Winston. To quote her from the article:

“It’s like a runaway train. You know it’s going to wreck, but all you can do is watch. It’s terrible and it’s tragic.”

Obviously Pam’s not Jameis’ #1 fan.

  66. Dave Pear Says:

  74. ATrain Says:

OK Your the Tough Guy you win..

    Now your life is complete..
Oh wait it will be complete after the draft.

    Relax. It’s a blog…

  75. Stanglassman Says:

    @Dick
Do you always find racial denigration so funny? Maybe you didn’t understand the ‘Hueytown resident’s’ motivation of why she didn’t like Winston. Racial tension in AL is nothing new. You should read the article again and notice all the positive things people said who actually worked with the guy.

Like his HS FB coach Scott & Stephens, “He was the most intelligent and talented quarterback I’ve ever been around, I’ve never seen anyone with that kind of football IQ,” Example they gave; Winston began football at age 4, competing against players twice his age. His helmet and pants were too large, but he had no fear. He called his first audible at 7, in a Pop Warner game. At 12, Winston’s handwritten notebook described how to attack a Cover 2 defense.

Another quote from his coaches “His parents held him to an extremely high standard, both athletically and academically,I have no doubts this guy will do what it takes to a great pro.”

  76. LargoBuc Says:

No way should Rg3 be ahead of Cam or even Tanehille or Bridgewater. I knew Rg went way too high. Had he been developed and not thrust in expected to be a superstar, he could’ve been pretty good. And Ponder is no stud but I would take him over Gabbert or Weeden.

  77. WS99 Says:

Lmao. I love me some JBF!!

Jfat you right shanahan killed that kid by having him run around all day.

Buc what other line will he be behind. Did we get an oline and no one told me? At least with JW the receiver can come back to the huddle and say “hey I see this and that” and JW is knowledgeable enough to understand the chess game and make adjustments. Case in point last year Evans came back to the huddle and told mclown “yo they got a lb covering me” boom next play touchdown.

And some say the huddle don’t matter. Mariota would be like “but there’s a picture of SpongeBob I have to throw the bubble route”. He’d be like “I have to wait for the picture of Kim kardasian to score.” Ha get Kim score , cuz she’s a hoe. Nvrmind.

  78. port richey george Says:

“The NFL executive used the term “ignorant” to describe anyone who doesn’t think Mariota has the skills, smarts and experience to transition very quickly to any NFL offense.”

I’ve been here loooooong before you I know what’s been said. No one has said we need to win now. Last night you accused me of saying this such thing and you’re full of shyte. I never said that. I said Lovie has no time to wait for Mariota to develop. You can find it yourself to prove me wrong if you like just use google and go and find it until then stop making up BS.

This team is 2-3 years away from being competitive with or with out Rivers or Winston or Mariota.

  84. Buc1987 Says:

Look at how pissy these Mariota fans have become….

    Whiny little babies.

WantstaStayaBuc <—-made this screen name up so he could come in here and whine about if they take Winston he'll no longer be a fan.

Yep he's one of those fans..

  85. Buc1987 Says:

Which one of you “Winstonites” thinks that will “win now” if we draft Jameis?

    Say I. or Nay.

This clown seems to think it’s been said all the time in here….surely some of you will come out the woodwork and tell him that it was never said.

  86. WantstaStayaBuc Says:

I look forward to this. Never said, right?

  87. WantstaStayaBuc Says:

And your name (Buc1987) and your statements suggest that because you have been around sooooooo loooong that your opinion is somehow more important or correct than others.

I bet you posted on this message board in the snow and had to type uphill both ways, but were grateful.

  88. BuccaneEric Says:

I guess I’m a Winstonite and I say Nay. He’s ahead of mariota in translating to the NFL game but that doesn’t mean he won’t struggle. Both guys will. Winston will have the easier time though. I’m not a huge Mariota fan, but with the right coaches I can see him doing well. Lovie needs to win now, not me. I’m ok with another bad season if it means we’re developing either QB this year for the long haul.GO BUCS!!!

  89. Stanglassman Says:

So now it’s down to this from MM supporters:

Mariota is winning the popularity contest on polls.

    Winston is dividing the fans.

Winston fans think he may win games sooner than is realistic.

    *My Favorite

2 of the best fans Tampa could have. We 1000’s more like them.
    ————-

You do realize this is exactly how you and many posters here feel about Glennon, right? You all wished and wanted Glennon to fail rather then see the bucs win. So when and if Winston sucks it up will he get a pass for this because of the oline and coaches failures? You don’t even need to respond cause we all know the answer.

    :sigh:

Did you even try to read it before you attack anything that happens to support Winston? Or just because it’s pro Winston, do you just start swinging blindly? The list was made by a high ranking PROFESSIONAL personnel scout. For a quarterback needy NFL team. But not TB or Tennessee.

That’s like….what they get paid to do….for a living. God forbid, he gives the next QB for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers high marks.

    Talk about extreme bias.

  92. Buc1987 Says:

Hell about a month ago we had gaggles of fans coming in here proclaiming the pick was going to be Mariota and that anyone that thought different was a moron.

They also proclaimed that the Glazers would NEVER make this kid the face of this franchise. Those people slowly disappeared. Perhaps it dawned on their pea brains that it’s going to happen.

2 months ago it was even worse than that. People were claiming that Joe’s too biased towards Winston and it needed to stop. Although it was his site and they had a choice to stay here or leave. Joe repeatedly said he doesn’t like spread option QB’s as his defense for all the Winston love he was giving us, but that wasn’t good enough for them. They thought is was just another Joe loves Johnny situation. I tried to tell them that this has nothing to do with Manziel and Joe. That Manziel was never mocked by any analyst saying that the Bucs were going to take him. Where as Jameis was and by many. I never understood Johnny Watch, but I sure as hell understood Jameis Watch.

3 months ago it was Mr Patrick and I battling back and forth all day long and night. He was so convinced that Winston’s past would prevent them from taking him with first overall pick. Now it appears I was right and he was dead wrong. He went on and on with these long drawn out paragraphs of Winston’s past and all the off the field crap. Like someone we have here now that lives in St Pete. That was 3 months AGO!

What’s changed since then? Well nothing. I said Winston was going to be the pick back then, and I’m still saying it. That doesn’t stop some knucklheads coming in here still claiming that Winston is the scum of the earth or the next Jamarcus, thug, rapist, the next Johnny rehab or whatever…

In the end in 6 days Winston WILL be a Buc. Come to grips with it or jump off the boat. Your opinions about MM will be meaningless, just as they are now. So get them all in while you still can.

  93. jfat Says:

I love it when people act like learning the huddle is some monumental hurdle that can’t be overcome by the time pre-season is over. Or learning to hear a call in a helmet instead of looking at a card. By all accounts Mariota is smart, and he’s aware of what he needs to work on and has been working on it.

Same thing as Winston with his throwing mechanics, locking on targets and public image. He gets it.

Neither guy is denying they have work to do and that is what’s important. You can’t improve without acknowledging your weaknesses.

  94. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Buc 1987 I beg to differ. I believe the Buccs are poise to win now. My reasoning is my utter belief that last season was a tank job for the WINSton sweepstakes. Much like it has already been reported this teams defence ranked in the top ten in all defensive categories after the bye week last season. Couple that with the fact that they will have a winner with a winners pedigree as the trigger man. The new OC calling plays to attack defenses. Currently their is no film to study of this up coming seasons offense. With the size of his targets along with suspect division along with the fourth easiest schedule in the league. I see no reason why the Buccs don’t compete for the division next season. Sure the O line needs a piece or two both of which I feel will be added before week one. I’m curious as to this notion that the turn around has to take 2 or three years. This team has probowl caliber talent on both sides of the ball. Purple say we have holes, has anyone looked at the holes on other teams in our division? We looking good in comparison.

  95. Stanglassman Says:

1st off nobody rooted for Glennon to Fail! They may have thought Freeman or whoever playing would have given the team the best chance to win. Much different than rooting for your team’s QB to fail so you can say I told you so. Do you see the difference?

  96. WantstaStayaBuc Says:

“Your opinions about MM will be meaningless, just as they are now. So get them all in while you still can.”

That’s what we’re doing. Unfortunately, I think you’re right 87; the Buc’s are going to take Winston. I am expressing my displeasure.

Rick Stroud summed it up for many of us the other day when he said, at the end of the day there are people who need to like the people that they cheer for. I am one of those people. I think that this is a bad guy. Even if you don’t think any of the things he’s accused of happened, his lying rubs me the wrong way big time. It’s worse for me when I hear Buc’s (Nole?) fans try to somehow explain his behavior away or in some cases pretend that his actions are noble. I don’t want to hear that for the next five years.

As for his game, I hear legitimate criticisms of his play frequently enough that I cannot comprehend the “draft him no matter what because I just want to win” viewpoint.

  97. BuccaneEric Says:

Jfat, the difference is that mariota didn’t look at the card and call the play. The whole team looked to the cards to get the play. That’s how they can snap the ball so fast. That being said, I’m sure he’ll be able to learn to call plays.

  98. Buc1987 Says:

    Firethecannons Says:

“You do realize this is exactly how you and many posters here feel about Glennon, right? You all wished and wanted Glennon to fail rather then see the bucs win.”

Wrong. I rooted for Glennon the second he became the starter. I even joined the MGM last season. Why do you people just make stuff up about me?

  99. Buc1987 Says:

I was also the one that wanted Freeman benched after the 3rd week of the season in 2013 no matter how much I liked him.

I said “put the kid in I’ve seen enough”. I was at Glennon’s first start at home and hollered his name from the stands. Saying come on Mikey or let’s go Mikey. I did this at every home game as I had season tickets that year with very good seats close to the field.

  100. cmurda Says:

Let me make a comparison between the big disappointment the Lightning have been in the playoffs and why we want Winston as Bucs fans. Ben Bishop = Not Clutch. Jameis Winston = Clutch. He’s a regular season hero but disappeared when it matters. Bucs get Winston and let’s see what it’s like to have a closer. A guy that does the opposite of Bishop. That 2nd goal he gave up was absurd. Any goalie in the league makes that stop. Absolutely terrible.

  101. BuccaneEric Says:

    Stamkos…. Not clutch

  102. WS99 Says:

Buc you right I did my bad.

Jfat calling plays is a big deal, miss one word and the play is dead or you throw an int. not too mention the kid talks so low you are going to have a head time hearing him in an opposing stadium. Learning the playbook is not easy and it’s not as simple as repeating what they tell you in your ear, I would image.

As for Glennon if people were not rooting for him to fail they certainly weren’t rooting for him to win. Remember the giraffe didn’t get a first down, he’s a serviceable back up. And the while trying to prove that mccown was better. Come on man!!!

  103. jfat Says:

@Buccaneric, yeah Im aware of that. You hit on my point though, these are things that are learnable and it really shouldn’t take that long to pick it up.. The pre-snap is where he needs to focus, its not rocket surgery.

  104. Buc1987 Says:

Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun…I’m in that group too though. In fact I was one of the first ones to say that they are losing on purpose mid-way through the season.

The regulars in here will tell you about how I kept posting the term.

    Tanketh for Jameth.

Fans denied that they were tanking, but I wouldn’t listen to them. I saw too many things in games that were dead giveaways. I also don’t think Koenan sucks as much as he did last season…hint hint (cough tank job cough) I alos saw missed tackles that should have never been missed tackles…(cough tank job cough)

What I don’t agree with you on is that all we need is Jameis and the wins will start coming. As much as I believe in this kid, I’m keeping my expectations low for now. He is afterall going to be a just a rookie. I’ve also gotten too excited in too many off seasons only to be let down during the season. I won’t let myself do that anymore.

  105. Buc1987 Says:

WS99…I rooted for Glennon last season.

I went so far as to quote a line from Revenge of the Nerds saying : “I think I’m in love with a nerd.”

I think a lot of these people just don’t like JW because he too uppity. Too many fried chicken, and thug type commits for it not to be true. Anyway, NFL Network’s Mike Mayock said he didn’t
need to see Gabbert throw in Indianapolis. Based on the tape, he’s a huge fan. Mayock sees four quarterbacks with first-round ability: Gabbert, Auburn’s Cam Newton, Washington’s Jake Locker and Arkansas’ Ryan Mallet, but Gabbert is the only one he viewed as a top-10 pick coming out of the combine.

He throws the ball in that 11- to 20-yard zone, which, to me, defines an NFL quarterback. I don’t care about the 10-yard throws. I don’t care about the 50-yard throws. Arm strength, to me, is not a 50-yard throw. Arm, strength, to me, is the 18-yard comeback. The 20-yard-dig. In between a window. Anticipating all those linebackers and safeties.”

  157. Buc1987 Says:

They may be wrong about the 4th pick or the 10th pick, but they won’t be wrong about the #1 overall pick. Not when it’s a landslide amongst them. Not going to happen. The writing is on the wall for all to see. If they were all saying it was Mariota this place would be bouncing off the walls with MM supporters. It doesn’t matter what Mayock or Jesus Christ himself says about Winston. He’s going to BE the pick. He was gong to BE the pick 3 months ago. He’ll BE the pick 6 days from now. Nothing’s changed, we still have the same posters in here calling him thug rapist scum bag. Yet nothing’s changed. He’s STILL going to BE the pick.

So whats the problem with that? Ive been watching Bucs QBs put the whole team in bad situations for a long time now. Are you trying to argue that by putting the team on your back when needed and making the plays necessary for the win, that that is a bad thing?

I told him “you just upgraded at qb” everyone said i was crazy..fast forward now its same with jameis over luck..He also says i was only person to say “i dont care if I have jerry rice in his prime im trading up to #1 for randy moss”. I said same for aaron after watching his game vs uscs great defense at time (clay matthews sitting bench behind maualuga cushing and rivers? iirc) going 24-24 and having last 2 drops that shldve both been tds to win bring him to 24-26 and a loss.”id take aaron #1 overall” .best single college pocket qb performance ive seen alongside jameis debut vs pitt in 20 yrs. My elite radar is pretty good, must say. Warren sapp was probably my next closest prospect last 20 yrs. Ask yourselves this question noles, canes, and gators..why dont you take more pride in your home state football overall and not just one team? You have 3 juggernauts of the sport, literally, in one state..thats incredible in itself. and whichever is at the top at that time should be praised. As an outsider, from arguably the most historic football state, ive always envied the athleticism of your bigs and the electricity of your playmakers. If you valued this and those teams achievements more in such a competitive state the bucks and tide may not be able to steal so much quality from your backyard. The players rarely have a scuffle in these tense rivalries but ignorant fans have little other than hatred for their in state rivals? Where is the respect? The players dont seem to have a problem in this area, why do you so-called adults? These guys were probably a pen-stroke from being your favorite player and now you must hate a kid for some stupid allegiance to a university you probably didnt even attend. If jameis were a cane or gator id be tickled for him..fyi, kaaya looked very impressive for an absolute child.. If his receivers made a couple catches he cldve been made a cane legend that day.

Soon after that all his friends and especially women were going off on all things Winston. This will be a very large PR battle the Bucs will have to wage. Of course most of the vitriol was regarding the rape accusation. Casual fans have never and will never look deeply into these allegations. They focus on the headlines and they have already tried and convicted him in their own minds.

I wonder if this will give the Bucs pause. They know more about him than all of us and they seem god to go with him. Most of the informed fans on here have done enoug research to know he is not nearly the villain he is painted out to be. My only concern is, will the Bucs worry about all the uninformed fans that will never care to learn the truth about this guy or even assume for a second that npmaybe he didn’t roar this girl.

    Rape (not roar)

  173. Winston for the Win Says:

Okay personally I am all in on Winston! However, a friend of mine posted on Facebook last night bashing Winston for the crab legs hook up. Soon after there were a bunch of comments from many, including lots of women stating how much they hated Winston. I wonder if all of the vitiol from uninformed fans will give the Bucs pause? Many of these people have already tried and convicted Winston in their own minds. It will be a huge uphill PR battle that the bucs Will have to wage. I don’t think the stain from this accusation will ever go away. I am just curious to see at this point if they are considering going in a different direction. I Think there is a big difference between the two quarterbacks. However, if I was a Glazer it would be a tough decision. Many people will never change their minds on the guy!

I have thought that the pick was Winston, but it may have been Mariota the whole time.
